    I came of age in the 1980s and was in my 20s when this movie came out. As a young INSURANCE professional, we all wore suits to the office. I cannot tell you how many young guys had the contrast collars, the suspenders, the over-the-top, gold, jewelry, and slick back hair. It was a very influential movie on both fashion and business. I wear a suit to work now but I much prefer the slim fit tailored sharp look then I did the bagginess of the 1980s.

    I recently found a vintage 1980 Hart Shaffer and Marx suit. I've styled it as close to Gordon Gekko as possible. I am a nut for how men styled their clothes in the 1980s, especially the power suit. Keep up the excellent work.

    I agree the look is a little over the top but I love it. It was so nice when people dressed like that, dressed with a sense of style as opposed to what we see today.

      Are you saying that my shapeless polyester hoodie made from 10 cents worth of genuine petrochemicals and put together by suicidally depressed slave labor, emblazened with the logo of a soulless corporation and then marked up by 5,000% is not stylish!?

    Thank you for a great video!
    I personally love the 80s and the business attire: everyone wears ties, the use of suspenders/braces, high waisted trousers, pleats, and high quality full cut suits. Personally, I would also tone it down compared to Gordon, especially with the use of jewelry and bold statement ties, but a winchester shirt is always nice!

    It's crazy how much you upload and still manage to keep a good quality standard.
    4:23 The Santos de cartier and cartier Tank must/louis are not the same watches, it's only called santos the cartier.

      I don't know the different references, just the groups/categories of the cartier watches.

    I always thought Bill Lumbergh from Office Space wore this style well. And he accomplished it in 1999.

    Very good video. The analysis of the clothing for the circumstances… for example when he is speaking to share holders he is not so bold with his style, but when working with others he steps up the boldness and stands out from the rest. Someone said fashion is fleeting but style is eternal. Classic style is always stylish and with a slight adjustment make the look personal. Where fashion is generally following the rest and not individual, style looks the best and shows greater confidence.

    Regarding "suspenders," boys wear suspenders with clips. Never men. Men wear braces with buttons. My favorite are the Trafalgar with artwork on them. Ebay, of course.

    thanks for the video. I was a young Kid in the 80's Iremeber my father dressing in 3 piece suits(cheap ones though, my father was very cheap with clothing). I remeber we had to wear a jacket and tie to school, I still have the Pierre Cardin Clip on ties made in Italy from my youth, I know that label has now become cheap but that time it was pretty mid to high end.. Gordon Gecko has a good style to him but I don't think I could pull it off. The 80's were a very flashy time,I don't like the shoulder pads though it makes, but then I guess I am not an ALpha ,that is for ALpha males to wear:)

    Double-breasted suits and suspenders were quite common in the 80s.

    As someone who lived through tthe '80s, these looks aren't that unusual to me. While I don't care for the baggy/oversized fits from that era, the basic construction is something we can learn from. I typically dress up like this (dark suits, light/solid shirts, with typically bolder ties). Don't wear the gold as it never was my thing, but the basic look is the same. Also, the Cartier tank watch, as an example, is still something powerful yet elegant today.

    • @Gent.Z
      @Gent.Z  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's interesting. I suppose fashions that you lived through look less strange than they would to someone with no previous reference point!

    • @mph7282
      @mph7282 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree. I think this 80s style is the best look of the last 50 years, the closest to that “classic” style, but I’m also of that vintage, so…I don’t think the look is “baggy” or “oversized”, however. The clothes just drape properly. Which is a much better look than the suits of today which look like they’re three sizes too small. A lot of men today say they don’t wear suits because it’s uncomfortable. First, I’d argue they aren’t uncomfortable so much as they are unfamiliar, and secondly buy a suit that fits properly with the correct drape and you won’t find it nearly as restricting.

    • @Gent.Z
      @Gent.Z  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mph7282 here’s my two cents on this. I love the padded shoulders and the drape but I do think a suit that is a little more fitting around the waist is flattering to most male physiques because it creates a stronger V silhouette. As for the pants, I enjoy room in my seat and thighs but prefer no break, even with a more relaxed fit

    There's no way his wardrobe could have cost that must. Even 20 outfits fully bespoke at $10K each comes out to "only" $200K, not $3.2m!

    Like the suits but hate the attitudes of the people who wore them. You can wear the finest clothes in the world, but if you have an ugly attitude towards other people then you’re ugly. Ironically ‘city boys’ now spend half the week working from home in their tracksuit or pyjama bottoms. The City of London is a shadow of what it used to be.
