Doug McClure's daughter informed him that Doug was a big fan of The Simpsons. She said that while watching an episode Doug saw the character Troy McClure on the show and said, "Are they making fun of me?" Doug said he thought the parody was funny and his daughters would call him Troy McClure behind his back as a joke He also had a cameo role as a poker player in the 1994 movie remake of Maverick.

@@69coolchris I saw it and was disappointed in it as well, started out like Gilligan's Island, instead of a lost continent they went through a hole in the Bermuda Triangle. Perhaps they could try and remake it the way Resident Evil or Starship Troopers was done in very good animation with voicing of good actors. I liked the 2 books, there was a third but I haven't finished it, didn't like the ending to the People that Time Forgot, Tyler and the girl and didn't die in that one.

yes , I do own a few Doug McClure movies. Back in the late 80's early90's, my roommates and others made our "Doug McClure Fan Club" T-shirts. Of course the rule was just an ink pen on a T, because lets face it. That's what is true tribute the best B of 70's. After a wash the ink pen would have to be re-applied. I take it upon everyone who reads this to make this T-Shirt.

Does anyone remember the 80s TV show with Doug McClure as a Mayor of a small New England town? He was a side character, but the main focus was a young girl who learns that she is half Alien on her 13 birthday. She can talk to her Alien Dad in Outer Space thru a cube thingy, and she could friggin' Stop Time! Yeah, she could freeze time, but she could unfreeze people too! It was a weird show.

I have ALWAYS been a Doug fan. I watched him in the cowboys shows on TV as a young kid, and then as a pre-teen I enjoyed his sci-fi shows like this one. He is the epitome of a 'man's man'. A two-fisted Alpha Male who took no shit from anyone, and unlike Michael Sopkiw (highlighted in other Brandon vids) Doug did not get beat up constantly. So, for doing this Doug-a-thon, Brandon, thanks. And for all those 'Hi I'm Troy McClure--you probably remember me from such films as--' fans, I say watch Doug's actual movies and see for yourself why he is such an Icon.

I remember watching this on American Movie Classics as a kid - for all its shortcomings, it does maintain interest and a real sense of throwback pulp adventure (understandable considering that's what it's based on). If it does get remade, it should be closer to the film version of JOHN CARTER, which was WAY better than what critics said at the time.

I'm pretty sure Pterandons spent most of their time gliding, too. They were quite heavy and would expend too much energy flapping. Also, how exactly were they going to refine that oil into diesel? Oh yeah, plot convenience lol. Go to the U boat in the Chicago museum and see exactly how fucking silly that is. You couldn't even take a good dump in a U boat.

I used to watch this movie once and again when I was 4 in the Super 8 my father bought. The movie was in German and I didn't understand a word, but I didn't care. The special effects were nice for the year it was made (in fact some of the dinosaurs were real size); the music was just amazing and the sounds and the roars of the dinosaurs were pretty neat. I have seen the movie recently and, as you well said, it is much better than Jussaric Park 3...

I enjoyed this very much. Especially coming from someone who doesn't look like they were alive when these films came out. Heh. I'm actually quite fond of the way the dinos looked, great work at the time from Roger Dicken. I was there, saw it in the theater.

The first third is actually really good with the Germans / sub / lost continent /underwater access to the island. And the final few moments do have a real sense of gravitas and tragedy. It's just unfortunate that everything else in between is really terrible.
John McEnery's performance as Captain Von Schoenvorts was entirely over dubbed by German actor Anton Diffring.

Half the book takes place on the sub. It changes hands 3 times I think. I think the shot then cut one if them, which is why there was an inconsistency early on in it

My dad took me to see this movie at a drive in when it first came out. If you want to do another Doug McClure movie, you should check out Satan's Triangle, a made for TV movie made in 1975 with Kim Novak. Movie explores two mid 70s pop culture obsessions--Bermuda Triangle and Satanism.

note: any animal with high wing span don't flap their wings that often. there are couple of strategies how to gain altitude without flapping wings, but all of them includes rising air currents. check how vultures fly if you want an interesting example

Loved this as a kid back in the 70's.It was soooo real back then through the eyes of a child. Today it's virtually unwatchable.(So I bought my other half the Doug McClure box set one Christmas and had to endure ALL of his films over the festive period, serves me right).
Love the way the dinosaur they shoot at from the sub changes shape with each cut back from being large enough to eat a man whole to being a small head slender necked plesiosaur with longer teeth . Notice how it loses some of it's teeth when it hits the deck. Oh, and the original Jabba the Hutt then serves it up for dinner before later having a fight with a German. And the naked chicks bathing in that (whatever it is). I remember as a kid wanting the camera to cut closer. Oh well, far away titties and rubber dinosaurs. Never mind, eh ?

The plot of this film has similar elements to King Kong. They both take place on an island that hasn't been mapped, and they both contain dinosaurs. The main difference is that Kong is an interesting character.

That's why they are that way. The film has a very serious tone that's kinda sabotaged by overly ambitious-for-the-budget FX.

Please review Dinosaurus. It's a movie from the 1950s and involves a T-Rex, a Brontosaurus and Caveman in Mexico. Also it was produced by the same producer of The Blob (another film you should cover)...overall, it's been a while since you covered a 50s Monster Movie.
