- A protagonist in the early Spanish industrial revolution in the 19th century, Marbella has indeed experienced continuous growth throughtout the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, developing an economy based on the tourist offers aimed at visitors and temporary residents of medium and high purchasing power.
Marbella is one of the most important tourist cities on Costa del Sol and in all of Spain. Most of the year it is a center of attraction for international tourism thanks mainly to its climate and its tourist infrastructures. The city also has a significant archaeological heritage, several museums and performance spaces as well as cultural calendar with events ranging from reggae to the opera.
The old town of Marbella confines the old walled enclosure and the two historic suburbs of the city: the Barrio Alto which extends to the north and the Barrio Nuevo which is located to the east. The Plaza de los Naranjos, which is an examples of Castilian Renaissance urbanism, constitutes the nerve center of the town. Around the square there are three notable buildings - the town hall, built by the Catholic Monarchs; the Corregidor's house, with Gothic - Mudejar and Renaissance façade; and the Ermita de Santiago which is the oldest religious temple in the city.
Connecting the old town and the sea, lie Paseo de la Alameda where a small botanical garden is found, and the Avenida del Mar - a garden path with fountains and a collection of ten sculptures of Salvador Dalí. The Constitution Park which house the auditorium of the same name is found to the west side of the road, passing the Marbella Lighthouse.

How was to get there from Málaga? I've been reading in TripAdvisor that the Autobus station sucks (bad humour drivers and such). Is there a train station to there? How much time? :)
Hi, good evening! Thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Well, I can suggest taking the train from Málaga center to Fuengirola (the last station). And from there, you can take the bus to Marbella. More or less you can reach Marbella in an hour and thirty minutes. It can save you so much time because the bus from Málaga to Marbella can take you more or less two hours because the bus will take too many stops sometimes.
@@KrielJan WOW! That was a GOLD TIP!! Google maps says it takes 35min from Fuengirola to Marbella (by car). I'm wondering why the autobus would take 1:30h .. Greetings from your follower from Brasil :)
@@ExplorerOfTheGalaxy because depending on the time, the bus has to go to certain stops in Torremolinos, Benalmádena etc before reaching Marbella to get more passengers. That’s why they take longer than usual.
