    Holy hell! The sound of that V-12 when it fires up is no joke. That engine is ready to raise hell.

    Group C cars are some of best looking cars to race Le Mans.

    • @thethirdman225
      @thethirdman225 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Obviously they raced at a lot of other places besides Le Mans. The point I'm making is that for all the high speeds they reached there, they still had to be able to race competitively on circuits like Brands Hatch or Dijon to Spa to Fuji and Sandown. Think for a minute about the differences and yet the car needed to be able to be adapted to all of them. For sure the power and speed of the thing is probably the most impressive aspect but the agility and the fact that Southgate was able to design such a small chassis around such a huge engine will always amaze me.

      I don't think Rupert Murdoch, Jeremy Clarkson etc are willing to pump much more money into the channel. I'm guessing they thought that Jethro and Henry's videos would launch it with a bang but people soon disappeared once they were let go. I like this video but I won't hold my breath waiting for regular, decent content...

    I was at the 1000km of Brands Hatch in 1988,and I recall two of these driving past me together at Clearways. Martin Brundle,Andy Wallace and John Nielsen were the drivers of the No 1 and winning car,and Jan Lammers and Johnny Dumfries were the drivers of the No 2 XJR-9. They were so loud,I thought my ears were going to bleed !

    Yup...I had a bunch of 16th scale model car that I literally played with all day, every day when I was a kid...an F40, an older classic Ferrari, a Porsche GT1, etc. My parents also got me an epic Tamiya RC car for my 8th birthday...the body it came with was the Mercedes C11 (which I just found out they RE-RELEASED!!!) and, after it got beat to death, I got another body for it that I THINK was this. This generation and class of car will ALWAYS be some of the most gorgeous cars ever made as far as I'm concerned.

      At LeMans all Jag fans loved the Mazda when it went past you you could feel your eardrums actually move inwards! Happy days. Imagine falling asleep in the camp site in the middle of the circuit hearing all these different cars ( you could tell a Porsche from a Jag or Mazda) going down the Mulsanne straight with no chicanes in 88

    The rear wing on the Le Mans version was set the way it was so that it could interact with the flow of air from under the car. In this position, it almost worked like a two element wing with the flow of air over the bodywork and under the wing causing undertray to become more efficient and improving the L/D. It was basically a different way of making a low drag package for Le Mans. Others like Porsche and Sauber used longer tails with less wing camber to achieve that. It was an extremely clever piece of design.

I just received from the widow of a man named Robert O’Brien Jr., a private investor in this car. for an Xmas gift, a poster from the 1985 lemans with the car on it, chip driving it, and signed all over the place by Bob Tullius and Chip, and one inscription reads “to Robert, 225 down the Mulsanne Straight was easy after a scary ride in your 120!” It was a gift he left to me after I worked on their house, and we got to know each other shortly before his death.

    240+ MPH out of 700bhp and 615lbft...really goes to show you the power (pun intended) of minimizing weight and optimizing aero. Really is amazing. I have a GT-R that does over 800whp and ~660wtq on full tilt yet I don't see it going 240+ any time soon. Hahaha
