I feel that Darryl should prioritise and distinguish between needs and wants. He is already so financially strapped with a condo mortgage to service and yet he wants to have a wedding banquet. When you sign the marriage register at ROM, you are officially legally married. Whether or not you have a tea ceremony or a banquet is immaterial - these are wants and not needs. His wife is also not understanding at all - calling him selfish when he was being upfront about affordability of a wedding banquet.

This pandemic has forced each and everyone of us to go out of our comfort zone. Much respect to these people who were brave enough to show what they are.going through and how they are finding ways to survive. All the best to Daryll, Air and Alba.
After watching this, I feels grateful, although I'm stranded here in Thailand for almost 1.5 year's, at least my chances for surviving is higher rather than stranded in Hongkong or Singapore. Thailand is much more affordable to live in. Keep fighting guy's, stay safe and healthy. 🙏
I was a limo driver, gave it up during the pandemic. I am the only breadwinner for my family with 2 children still studying and the third in NS. After giving up my limo business, I found part time job selling courses, then worked as a temporary worker in a supermarket at $8 per hour. Luckily sg gov help with subsidiaries. So able to survive for a while. Then I went for courses n security officer. Then work as a security officer. Now back to taxi driving but phase 2 go back to work as security officer. I am 55yrs old, I am as tired too. Just push on, keep going, we will survive this and be a better person.
It’s a humbling experience for these 3 people to lower themselves to do these jobs. But they did it for the people they loved. They chose not give up and fight for another day. These people earned my respect.
The Singapore guy owns a Volkswagen car, a condo, it's more like poor financing, and if he could downgrade a few items, or not having an extravagant wedding, his family and him would live better.
Their new jobs are not low class. They upgraded themselves. People who are comfortable with these jobs are not crazy about money and they are not insecure when they have less money than you. These people tend to be happy and joyful. Just try these jobs yourself and mingle with them to see for yourself.
My point is not a matter whether the new jobs were high or low class but a matter of how they have adapted in tough times. This Singaporean guy could have made better financial decisions. But some of us may have his commitments that are unavoidable. The question is whether we would have his strength to adapt. This young man opens up his life to us. Should we pin his faults or should we take the positive from his experience?

Because ppl are best in arts 🎭 r often the most creative n adaptive ppl . Good luck for yr new journey .
Its it obvious from the start? He just didn't want his sister to get too involved in his business. If she gets more involved in his venture, he will become obliged to share more profits or even shareholding of the business, of which the profit margin could be very tight to start with. Such arrangement could potentially be contentious in court, especially if the business structure is informal like sole proprietorship. Besides we also don't know this lady really well, she might have certain personality issues (e.g. opportunistic/selfish) that only her brother knows. She could potentially get hold of certain large cliente and do it on her own, given the toiletries business doesn't have much of a moat. Her brother is already generous to give her a temporary job position. Some would have outright rejected her. Maybe she needs to be more cognizant of his preference and move on, or else bigger conflict awaits. Let's be fair to him as well.
@@kennethsulleza4282 He's no saint..but listen to @40:42 ..It seems obvious that she is not contended to be an employee, but a boss to his business...She is contemplating if her brother is "sorta the boss that gives her instruction", even though its his business..lol. Good job on the documentary.

Actually I don't know the background relationship of this two brother and sister. But I am a brother who has a sister working as cabin crew also. She was also laid off because of pandemic. Working as the cabin crew with high income making them proud of and living luxury. Many of them pay a lot of installment in expensive car and house. I didn't not blame her but at beginning I try to tell her not buying expensive one if we face any crisis. Right now she became the sales. But her income is not enough to pay installment. Finally we have to use the family money to pay. Super Bad is she pay no interest in debts. she leaves everything to my parents. Never talk about the debts or if anyone raise about this to her, she will be angry.
Business is business. Thats why you dont work with your family. Business didn't care about your relationship. Her brother got a good point about the toiletseat business
For many out there still being employed in the current dire situation, stay positive and be grateful you have an income. Very good and underrated video. Everyone can find a little bit of theirselves from this video. I was doing ok before Covid that I own a travel agent and two restaurants, I have been over optimistic when the covid hits that I thought it would last no longer than 3 month just like SARS did back in 2003. I hanged in too long to realize it will take years to recover and, all my savings were lost and my businesses were closed down. With financial commitments, new born second baby and not-understanding wife, I became a truck driver during the day and UberEats driver in the night. I wake up 0430 am everyday and not go to bed until 10 pm the earliest. Life is really hard atm, as a father of 2, I have to do everything and anything except giving up. Gold Coast, Australia
Wow Daryll's wife isn't doing herself any favours sounding like a pampered strawberry who has only ever worried about herself. Her husband is slogging away day and night, and she complains about him not being there for her?? She isn't there riding with him when he's delivering food either. It's called division of labour. That's what it means to be an adult in tough times. The decision to over-commit on expensive housing and have an unplanned child is on both of them. But he at least is showing some grit and maturity now. Meanwhile she is pressuring him about a wedding dinner, which is another foolish financial decision on top of prior unwise financial decisions which have forced them into this tight corner. This tough period will force her to grow up quickly and catch up with her husband mentally, or I don't see the marriage lasting.
Division of labour. Exactly. She wants him to be around so she can show off, out of pure selfishness. Which doctor won't understand ''my husband is working/his dad is working''? None! She's trying to force him into the baby's appointments through guilt, because in her mind, people might think that she doesn't have a husband. Girl, grow up! ''Husband is trying to save us all from drowning ,here!'' that should be your thought. As for your judgemental parents girl, tell them to look after the baby so you can at least work from home and bring in the money you are demanding for the stupid banquet.
"she complains about him not being there for her" : not being there to ride her eh eh eh :D (maybe). jokes aside, daryl has so much fighting spirit, he should make a yt channel harnessing from this episode. it could sell
The lady from Thailand is tough as nail. Alba whole family works, Daryll's whole family works. She fights by herself. Much respect and wish her good health and fortune.

... i accidentally found my career in Hong Kong right at the beginning of the protests in may 2019, and now that I look back and see others really carefully... It really breaks my heart sometimes that some people were forced adapt and to cope with uncertaintly (entirely on their own). And now that I got to take a look at others outside of my home, it just... makes me a bit speechless. I never would've had the determination or the capability to adapt like they did.
My sister too was jobless since the covid has first started. She's a flight attentend at airasia and served more than 10 years. Now she's just at home, having zoom meeting like house estate stuff and selling health insurances. My brother too lost his job since the covid, he's a malindo ground staff. Well it's just me and pa working at the moment. I wished everything will go through things smoothly step at the time.

i don't get how marrying early helps with focusing on a career. Focusing on a career first would ensure you're better off financially to marry and provide for the kids need. I think Daryl got it backwards.
@Block Chain not really, you just have to really consider the person you want to marry, who is his/her social circle, what kind of people is this person's family etc etc.. I know a guy who got married when he was 19, i think it was in 2014? They started from zero and now they're living comfortably during this pandemic..
i feel so grateful that i am lucky to be in biotech industry. I should have stop complaining too much work due to pandemic. this makes me want to give big tips to the delivery guy.

@@signumxmagnum Your comment really shows how much you actually use your brain to think. The profit margin for a food delivery driver already very low.
Younger Singaporeans have never experienced a serious economic downturn and are sometimes rather unrealistic.
@@rudolffabrie3233 tbh, even the elderly in my household have never experienced such a serious economic downturn too. My parents said this is much worst than SARS period and that's saying alot.
His wife has 'high' standards, what do you expect. Can't lose face with her friends. He is working such long hours to feed their egos.
Me and my wife's priorities are our 2 children, and other than our HDB loan payment and maid we don't have much commitments thank God. Don't need to work so long and sleep peacefully at night
Darryl's wife can probably help him out a bit more... These days cannot be single income couple anymore. The strain on Darryl might put his health at risk.
Comparing Darryl with the ladies from HK and Thailand I feel that the ladies are more realistic and down to earth about their expectations.

@@meatballshao1877 totally agree.

Ya he is very mean to his sister

Why the wife is not working, that might helps alot
Division of labour. Exactly.
She wants him to be around so she can show off, out of pure selfishness.

It’s a wedding, is she not allowed to have a celebration for the biggest day of her life? If they have money for a condo and a car, they have money for a small 3k banquet.
i am very touched by everyone story and amazing family bonds and resourceful stamina to move on being so naturally open about their human feelings i am crying too and thankful..you make life living and trying worthwhile again...hope all is well soon...
In a way, for the singapore couple, they brought it on themselves?? The idea in singapore is when you have a condo, can get a car, and nice cushy job, you made it and never think of the what if. My wife has been out of job for a year, but we are still getting by, because we saved, alot, especially by prudent foresight.
@@ok2713 it's bloody expensive because tax is about 100%
That Singaporean idea is somewhat sound because cash is part of the 5Cs, when you have it it can help you in those what if situations. That couple is a different beast, they are the fake it till you make it type. They over extended to pretend to be somebody whom they aren't.
Yes indeed to always keep emergency fund. Good job and nice advice to everyone else
In Singapore, it is better to cry in a Condo, than to be happy in a HDB Flat. :)
Go cry somewhere else. My life great two cars 4bed house in Canberra Australia and all paid off. Your life sounds a bit shitty
Thank you CNA for making this documentary. I wish all of them the best of luck.
A great piece of reporting worthy to emphasize.
Love from London - we‘re in this together ♥️
It‘s funny how priorities change, no?
It shall all pass🙏🏻
For those who are watching this and undergoing struggles and stresses brought about by Covid, don't give up. Keep on keeping on~
I was a cabin crew too before the pandemic ,but unexpectedly not only me but dozens of girls at Qatar airways lost our jobs . I was hopeless and clueless of what will happen because all we know is to work as a cabin crew and working as a cabin crew doesn't specialize you any subject or field .
I was already feeling the heaviness of the situation and was about to hit the rock bottom as I was the bread winner of my family .
Fortunately or unfortunately i got a job as a assistant lecturer at the military and I think the dumbest thing I've ever done in my life was accepting that job because I almost lost myself after started working with men working in military service.
Brave girl!! I hope u find a new job soon moving out of military. Working with military is never good for women. In canada hundreds of cease just coming out that the highest in command in military had been assaulting younger girls in the force. It’s like that in USA everything. U have nowhere to turn because they are the boss. Yeah i am talking about in Canada. PPL are mad at Covid, the frigin canada it’s been on news so much last a few yrs that abuse for women is rapid. Many young women’s dreams n daily stress going to work n repeated trauma (imagine still have to report n work with the one touchy feeling with u daily). It’s so bad. Hope things open up soon there that u can get out of there.
@@birdtj82 thank yew so much, it's nice to see people supporting each other still and hope this pandemic will be over soon and I'll be able to fly again .
My biggest stress relief is listening to this song .

Daryl and wife took on more financial commitments than they should when times are good. Guess they only hv themselves to blame.
Keep it up CNA. You are one of the most reliable media outlets out there.
Alba's brother is very bad. No encouragement and no moral support or checking on how the sister is doing. And no commission. It is like there is no relationship of siblings between them.
I like how Darryl's priority in a pandemic is to have a house gathering. Bravo, such responsible behavior.
Its pretty honorable that even though the thai entrepreneur seek her relative she still pay her decent wage for the work. The place where I am at now only willing to spend around USD 15 and expect a nike worthy logo.
These people are my heroes, adaptive, innovative, patience, hard working. May they all God bless them!!!
As a fellow Singaporean I don't sympathies Daryll, he is in this predicament due to excessive debt undertaking (condo & continental car)
People make mistakes. At least he own up to his mistakes and is giving his heart and limbs out to maximum so that his dependents can still live comfortably.
He dont have your sympathy but he actually gain my respect.
@@noblestar7742 yeah at least he is doing something about it and not complaining its covid fault like alot of people
He is young and has not experienced difficult times. I am glad he is hardworking so he will get through.
agree with this, why Darryl taking instalment on expensive car (VW) and for what i see he take an expensive and nice condo that way beyond his level, i don't give sympathy for Daryl but i give him my respect to try fix his F*ck up decision, and his wife for Pete's sake if she can't help please stop bitchin'
@@shiftyhoot Yeaaah, his wife was kind of a bummer. Complaining instead of being supportive. He's trying his best, at least be supportive and try to carry some weight. At this path, Darryl will end up dead or divorced. She will lose him either way. As for Darryl, my man needs to cut a few things loose there. I think his friend probably knows it and just couldn't tell it to his face.
Although I gotta point out...VW is not expensive (relatively). Common misconception though so that's fine.
These stories give me strength.
22:20 If some one either family member or friend treated you like trash then don't ask for their help. Used that anger to do it yourself. with this technology age. Everything online will be the future. Of course it is hard but you have no choice. Hope you will find one thing that you are good at and use that skill to do some thing about it. Never give up
i love cna program. always objective, serious, and in the same time easy to watch. keep up the good work CNA!
Makes me feel a lot better about being a delivery driver going into the pandemic
🙌🏾🙌🏾
respect for the people making things work for the time being, it’s a phase not forever
At 5:22 I think she was referring to the plane's "RADIAL engine", not "RADIO engine".. May wanna tidy up the subtitles (although it made me chuckle) 😀
Yes! Ure right! I was referring to “radial engine” I hope CNA could correct the subtitles too🙈
@@albayzin HI ALBA! Way to go! A lot in Singapore has watched and are rooting for you.
@@albayzin I replayed what you said a few times and to be honest, I heard "radio engine". Although you might be thinking "radial engine", your pronunciation is a little off. I've lived in HK for more than 7 years so I do understand HK English.
Don’t give up. U r not alone. Keep your spirits up no matter what so that u can bounce back when things become normal.
Thank you for sharing the story ❤️
Tough times and everything seems so unreal.Sad situation all over.Stay strong.God Bless!
its as she said, we are not living, we are just surviving nowadays, even with full time job it's still living paycheck to paycheck, without the salary, no one can afford that 20-30 years mortgage no matter how much emergency fund someone have
indeed, especially for those expensive apartments in the main cities...
great documentary! it gave me a different outlook about my job that I now feel very grateful for.
Thank you , this is a great series
Los padres son lo más hermoso del mundo! Absolutamente conmovida con estas historias!
