This is comparable to the greatest classics, pure poetic perfection. "Do you want a backrub, do you want to die, do you want to catch up, do you want to cry, do you want a piece of the painful pie."
Norman truly dives deep into the difficult and conflicting feelings one often feels towards an ex. The combination of latent love and newfound resentment can cause cognitive dissonance that is hard to deal with. He simultaneously wants the worst and best for his ex, offering a backrub in once sentence and threatening violence in the next. Truly, Norman Pain captures the struggles of a person who misses their ex, wants the best for her, and is still angry at her for hurting him (not that i would know).

I think what I like best about this and Party Time is how it is such a stark contrast to how things are approached in other genres of modern music. Sex, drugs, and mental illness in modern stuff is equal parts lamented and glorified. Everything sounds happy and upbeat, but there's very obvious anguish and despair in every word. It's not even ironic, it's just what it is. Every encounter and abuse of substances isn't even framed as real relief, it's just more pain, but a different sort.
