Thanks so much for showing us it's possible to untap the Zebra's potential. Himiway should be grateful to you because you will undoubtedly convince many people to buy it who would otherwise have passed it up in favor of a faster throttle bike.
Another good and helpful video, thank you. I'm sure you just made all the Himiway zebra owners very happy,. I used to own one of the original Cruisers from Himiway. And when they came up with a zebra, I was very disappointed with the limited top speed. So this will give a lot of people a better option when they are looking at this bike, good job!!!

Good day! A lot going on this past week. I just bought 2 himiway zebra step through ebike. And a few moments ago I just order the KD718 electronic unit and yes I used you as where I learned about the unit from you on TH-cam. Also ordered 2 Limos ultra smart bike helmets. Oh and the cloud 9 seat. Thank you for all you do. Michael

Cool info. Love that the new display has watts. You are right. Street slicks would add another boost in speed (due to lower rolling resistance compared to knobbies). Not as loud, either. Regarding the warranty. Don't throw away the original display, and swap it back in if you need a warranty repair.
This is the exact same display that was on my Magicycle cruiser! It’s crazy to see how interchangeable the parts are between companies

Just test road this bike, 25 amp controller instead of 22a like most 750w ebikes which is nice. This could be a good platform for some mods are you thinking about a build out on this one Brian? I’m thinking of doing a 48v 20ah triangle battery it might just fit in that frame, if not the wood rear rack is perfect to screw a shark battery directly on. I’ll only do this if there’s enough space next to the controller in the direct drive compartment for a dual battery device.

I'm about to buy a Zebra here in the UK but the range of the 20Ah battery will often fall short of my commutes.
I'm not really interested in top speed, although I'd use it at times 😁, but maximum range is top priority.

I'm sure the guy at ElectricAllWheel did a dual battery conversion and the dual battery balancer fitted into the space with the controller?
I've seen these around and still gotta order one of these for my Himiway Escape Pro. I know they used to let everyone unlock them but changed that in the firmware in recent times.
i've heard the displays work on zebra, cobra, escape, some of the cruisers, but don't do much for the big dog

The Zebra is a good bike. It can be a good logical purchase for many people. But for people interested in performance the Zebra has the same problem as the other 26 inch fat tire bikes. An $1800 Kepler. Goes faster, climbs better, and doesn't require any mods to do it. The Kepler was a perfect fit for your great channel Citizen. I wish you could have worked it out to get your hands on one.

I researched buying my new Himiway Zebra 2 years before I bought it. Your videos helped me make an informed decision. Currently from your video I went out and bought that speed controller. The exact one in your video. After installing it my bike felt much faster. Looking at speedometer I was going only about 2 mph faster. So I'm currently going at it with the Ebay seller...lol..He seems not to know what I'm talking about. Poor guy...Answer to your question, I'm 280 pounds...lol...I know what your thinking. To that I can only say, my zebra rode my 280 at 25mph no problem. So I'm thinking this controller must give me those additional 5mph even at my overweight self...lol Tell me what you think!...lol

You should check out PrestonPettyProducts that makes a plastic fender for dirt bikes. They make a Muder fender that might fit inside your forks and across those wider tires. They come in silver color which would look great on your Zebra. Preston Petty offered the first plastic fenders for dirt bikes way back in the 1960's that transformed dirt bikes to their light weight unbreakable ones you see all dirt bikes have today. I know. I was there. Haha! Great video on unlocking the Himiway bike's speed. Lots of folks will like that upgrade for sure.
May spend for one on my Zebra, thanks. Good question: mid drive will the Cobra Pro motor fit? A great system would be 1000 watt mid drive and a 750 to 1000 watt front hub drive. Then set the front up with PAS only and rear on the cobra system you could add thumb control also. I would also add one to two battery extra.

I have the himiway big dog and i love it!! Ive been doing research on a upgraded display, but there is two to choose from the kd718 & the kd986 im wondering if the 986 is a newer version? Have you seen the kd986?

Sometimes I wonder why ebike manufacturers don't make some of these little adjustments to make the bikes better, but then I think maybe it's just me who wants these tweeks, maybe these are very much my personal preferences and others like the bike as it comes stock. Himiway offers at a price a speed controller for steady speed instead of the jerking like vehicles with electrical motors do. Do you think I need to buy the speed controller too or does the new display accommodate that mode as well?
This works on some bikes and not others. The LS (Limit Speed) parameter setting normally only determines the speed limit of pedal assistance. If you exceed the limit, the PAS is zero.. Throttle speed is usually limited at the controller level on most ebikes with no access to change it on the display. The workaround is to set the tire diameter small enough so that when you set the speed display to kph, your speedometer will actually show the right number for mph. The drawback is that your odometer reading will be understated by 61.29% in kilometers. There are some aftermarket displays that disable the throttle limit on certain bike models. This can only be due to a hidden display menu in the factory display unit that controlled the throttle limut setting that is missing in the aftermarket display.

That's a nice looking bike, I would turn it into a trail bike, upgrade the fork, new derailleur new stem, new handlebars.
Have You tried spoke skins on the Zebra step through yet ? I did and got very bad rubbing on the front wheel. The brake caliper is so close to the spokes the skins can't be free of it. I had to remove all on the left side of the wheel.
Does this use the same plug as the G-Force ZF? That's also 750W 48V, so the only question is the plug.
Hey CitizenCycle, since this is all but the same as the original Magicycle cruiser display, will it play nice with it? Since it can adjust the mph all the way to 56mph than can it help the Magicycle( cannot adjust pass 28mph)? Have you tried it on the Magicycle?

I have a class 3, 48V bike. Stock top speed is around 33 at full charge. I wanted to squeeze a little more so I added 5psi to the tires. It's a stiffer ride now, but I'm used to hard-ass road race bikes @110psi. 5psi has increased acceleration tremendously over 17/18 recommended psi. Increased top speed by 2 mph even as the battery discharges, whereas it didn't previously.
However, still not being satisfied, I added thicker, premium tubes, tire liners and liquid flat-out. Increased psi to 27. (yeah, I know. I'm really pushing these stock Kendas). Acceleration is even quicker according to the accelerometer. Top speed now varies from 34-36, of course depending on battery level, wind, road type, etc. This is impressive considering I'm not a lightweight guy. 260lbs. on a good day.
I'm toying with the idea of going to 30psi just to try it. I'll likely regret it as I don't believe the tires can handle it. One or two good ruts and that might be a blowout. I'll be sure to stay near the house if I do. 😬🤕
I had these 4.9 in tires set to 18 PSI for this test. The sidewall says Max 20 PSI.
@@CitizenCycle925 Mine say the same. As you said "I like to run everything to the extreme". Virtually any bike tire, you can exceed the sidewall pressure by 5-10psi without issue. With these fat tires, they do seem more prone to flats, hence the addition of thicker tubes, tire liner and flat-out. So far, so good. For a guy my size, The less rolling resistance, the better. I wouldn't run these pressures off-road though. Definitely need to air down.

Good morning,for some reason I cannot go back to the parts like handle bars neck,tires too. I would like to buy these parts and install them. Please if you can let me know how to see them on the Amazon site again. Also can I put that 4.8 tire safely on the rims that bike has now and also what about tubes and inside pieces for the rims?. I’m hoping I don’t have to change the rims to wider wheels. Please let me know if possible about these aftermarket upgrades. Thanks a bunch.. I have zebras on order
Great info! Besides ease of use does the upgraded display provide more functionally than the original display? Am I mistaken in thinking that the max speed setting of the Zebra can be set with the original display?
i dont' know if it really provides and extra functionality, it does display the wattage output if you are interested in that. its just way easier to use. the original screen allows you to adjust max speed but it wont go higher than 40kph (24.8mph)

Hi Steve, as of now I have no plans to review the juiced rip current. I have never been in contact with juiced and I have far too many bikes right now to consider buying any new ones.

Hi in the uk the throttle on the himiway cobra bike has been restricted to 5 to 6 mph, so its put me off buying one, will this replacement screen unlock this restriction.

I got the exact same display for my cruiser last year. Works perfect and is a needed upgrade. Why Himiway shot themselves in the foot by no longer being able to modify their display, as you could with the old models. Magicycles doesn't do this.. Btw, my cruiser does over 28mph with throttle only on a flat bike path, and I'm exactly 200lbs.

Curious about the KD display working with my cruiser. Its a 2020 model which i can get pas/throttle to go that fast as it is if i unlocked it but i like too the ease of use with it changing settings and such

the ebay posting says it will work on the cruiser, but doesn't specify the model years. you could email the seller and ask. when i placed my order they messaged me to ask what bike i was using it on.

I did not have any problems with installation of the handlebars, All of the wires have plenty of slack for the increase in height. I have all of my bikes resting in "steady racks" on the wall. I have not hung the zebra bike because it is much longer than other fat tire bikes and I would have to unbolt and raise one of my steady racks higher on the wall, Also I'm not sure if the tires will fit in the rack...

I installed the KD718 color display on my Zebra ST and what a difference.
It’s the same display that Magicycle is using.
My top speed is now 30mph!
With the stock display even with it unlocked you could feel the bike pulling back at 25mph and it was quite aggravating.
Also it became obvious that Himiway had neutered the bike so they could advertise long range.
I would like to decide myself how much available power I would like to unleash. Even though the bike is a heavy beast I can now use it’s full potential or also detune the bike if I want range.
Ideally the Zebra would be the almost perfect bike if it had the power of the Kepler.

Does anybody know if this display screen will work on a Kepler? My only problem with a Kepler is that there is no way to program the percent power output for each PAS level. With that option the Kepler would be my perfect ebike!
I think I just answered my own question. The Ebay listing gives a list of bikes that this is is made for. No Ariel Rider bikes are on the list.
@@allenwhitehead7246 You may want to look into Eggrider V2 display. It is a compact bluetooth display that allows customized PAS settings for speed percentage and current output. You could also swap the stock 33 amp controller for a 40 amp at the same time.
@@jimmyjames8736 Sounds interesting. Have you actually used this on a Kepler or some other bike with a 52 Volt system? Once it's set up, would I still need to bring the phone along whenever I ride?
@@allenwhitehead7246 You can leave phone behind after setup. Very adjustable including how quickly and aggressively you want PAS to start. I use the Eggriders on a 52v Bafang BBSHD mid drive and a 48v Radrover. The Eggrider is not compatible with all controllers. You would need to look at your controller and then check Eggrider site for compatibility if you want to use the stock controller. If stock controller won't work with Eggrider you could upgrade to compatible 40 amp controller and get power upgrade with the new display.
What is the app you use for gauging speed?
I wonder if this would unlock the eu motor so it can be set higher then 250w, unless it's a different motor of course.

I was out on mine the other day , got my brake problem fixed , the brake sensors needed to be adjusted. I have mine to top out at 33 MPH . Which is fast enough!! It will do 45 top speed if I open it up!!
How did you get yours to go that fast and is it throttle or pas only?

Hmm..after installing the exact display I only got about 3 mph faster. Although on that very cold evening my bike as I rode it it seems to be moving faster. I didn't have time to make any adjustments to settings. Or maybe I bought a defected display. I have a warrantee so at worse I can return it. What do you think Citizen Cycle?
Not sure.. are you heavier than me? I weigh about 175 lb. My speed run was on flat to slight downhill. I think my tire pressures were around 20 psi
I just bought the zebra (from a UK dealer ) and didnt know about the throttle speed being factory restricted to 6 mph in the UK! Apparently its an EU rule. The bike is for my wife who due to health reasons can't pedal the bike which is why I went for the throttle control one. Do you know if this would bypass this problem?

Just a reminder to bike mod guys most bikes will have a bafang rear hub or mid drive. The unit he installed is the newest bafang hud. It should pug into any 750w+ rear hub or mid drive that is bafang. Even unbranded motors are likely bafang unless the motor says Bosch.

Thanks for the video Citizen. I bought and just received the new display. Unfortunately it didn’t change the top speed on my Himiway cruiser. I’ve looked through and tried changing all the settings. It even says 56mph. Still tops out at 26.2. Tried propping it up on the kickstand like you, same 26.2. Any ideas?
I've heard that on some of the cruisers Himiway has hardwired the top speed into the controller and there's no changing it by just using the display ☹️
Thanks for the reply. I haven’t seen any aftermarket controller’s specifically for the cruiser. Maybe some day I’ll be brave enough to build my own. Just would be nice to have the ability to speed up when crossing narrow bridges without bike lanes.

Yes if you just hold the plus button for 2 seconds to headlight & tail lights will come on, and yes there is an indicator on the display screen as well.

Not sure if you can help, but you don't know until you ask. I have the Himiway Cruiser and have trouble with the throttle. I open it up and it barely gets me moving. Any tips as to how I can solve this? Pedal assist works just fine, but due to health problems, I can't peddle too much, or I could end up stranded and unable to pedal at all. Can you do the same with the Bafang kits. I have one of those Bafang 1,000w geared hubs with 30amp controller, a lot of power but won't go over 29MPH on flat ground on its own power.

I just got this display delivered today for my brand new Himiway Cruiser. I do love the display, however I only gained about 2 mph over stock. I would hit 25 mph stock, 27 mph with the KD718. Also, when I do a throttle pull with the rear tire in the air, it maxes out at 26.2 mph. Any suggestions? I was hoping to hit around 30-35 mph with the new display. And yes, I have the speed set to 56.
The seller where I purchased my display told me this:
The displays we stock work on all Himiways and KBOs without modification, except certain Himiway Cruisers that use different firmware. In this case, we ask for a picture of the back of the display or ask the customer to choose when they order which stock display they have based on the production run numbers on the back so we can load different firmware if needed. For any other bikes listed we need to load different firmware on the displays.
Performance improvement (ie. speed increase) is seen on most Himiways and KBOs, except on some newer Himiway Cruisers which seem to now have a hard set speed limit in the controller that can't be overidden by the display settings.
@@CitizenCycle925 When I placed my order, there were 2 options for the Himiway Cruiser based on display serial number (order was placed via your link). I chose the one that matched my display so it seems like my Cruiser has a hard set speed limit from the factory. A little disappointing, but I still like the display and it did get me to around 27-28 mph. I'll reach out to where I bought the display to see if they have any other suggestions.

@@dustinberk1271 Nope, still hitting around 26-27 mph with the display. I'm a large guy, 6'3" and around 275lbs, but I have no problem getting up to speed on the Cruiser. If you're is a year old, you probably have the older controller and you should get above 28 mph. I still like the new display and decided to keep it.
I’m in the UK where throttles are just 6kph walk assist. Will this new screen controller allow me to use the throttle normally?
I'm UK too.i don't think it will release the throttle.think we need a different controller too. Look up elevated cycles in UK. They can order the stuff from US but it ain't cheap.not sure they supply the kd718 either.

Wow that's expensive. I got an unlocked screen for my bike which admittedly is not as nice for 27.50 Canadian on Aliexpress and got it in 10 days. I just had to splice the wires as it's a proprietary 7 pin with 5 pins for the controller and 2 for the headlight and horn. I hate it when bike manufacturers lock the settings.
I installed the kd718 but i get a code 30 The display works but when i start to peddle the error code appears Any ideas?
