This is just what I need Howard. I was setting up to respray the bonnet on my wife's VE Commodore which is Karma Blue Met so I'd need to blend into the front guards and A pillars . . . . I'll give this a crack first and maybe getting looking good enough to last another 360,000km!!

As far as ceramic coatings go, the only way to get them off is to polish it off and the only way to really know if it has been removed is by water behaviour. When the water sheets or beads, coating is still there, when it sits, your back to paint. Love your work.

Great extended video on this subject. Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge. I've got a little experience on fixing chips (Dr Colorchip kits are great) and full paint correction on my late model Hilux. I think I'm even skilled enough to fix a few chips on the original single stage paint on my '70 Torino Cobra. In the video you mentioned a "...trendy machine..." when trying to take a little more paint off a filled chip. Would you clarify?
That's the process i intend to use: Basecoat day one. Clearcoat following day followed by wet sand with 2500 a few days after that. Saw a guy on TH-cam do that to a BM in the States. Came up well.

1-3 year ceramic coats can be machine polished off. The 4+ years typically will be a possible 2000grit wet sand.

One way to do it in one day is to use basecoat to fill most of the chip, dry with hairdryer etc. Then to use uv cured clear over the top of it.

From memory Kovax paper isn’t directly equivalent to normal sandpaper. Eg K1500 might not sand and finish the same as P1500

Hi Howard. What sort of RPM are you using on the yellow & black pad. Position 2 or 3? I'm new to the foam pads, been using wool
Depends on the machine and how much product you have plus the amount of pressure. I treat it the same as wool.

It’s a cleaner used in paint shops that is 50/50 water and methylated spirits PPG offer it as a premix.

Yes mate, mix base coat with clear 50/50 plus hardner and fill them up.

Absolutely love it, just finished doing the whole car with them. Direct drive and orbital. Lots of grunt, very quiet and good battery life.

Your very limited with what you can do and results are not great
Mix your base coat colour with clear 50/50 and add hardner.

Ceramic coating.. on repair as per what you have just done is Apply Ceramic coat again.
Yeah was enquiring about removing or colour sanding once it’s ceramic coated
All these different polishing cutting pads is over whelming
It does make all the difference, progressivly getting finer to full gloss
