    but surely the machine itself will have many bearings within it due to the high amount of moving parts. which leads to the age old question...
    what came first, the machine, or the bearing?

    • @NTNBearings
      @NTNBearings  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Great question! It is speculated that rudimentary roller bearings were used as far back as ancient Egypt. We have evidence of roller bearings being used by Romans over 2,000 years ago. Leonardo da Vinci drew ball bearings around 1500. The first practical caged-roller bearing was invented in the 1740s by horologist John Harrison, and the first patent on ball bearings was awarded to Philip Vaughan in 1794. Because of this historic evidence, we can be confident that the bearings came first!

    If the guys from NTN are reading any of this, how do you determine a counterfeit NTN bearing?

    • @NTNBearings
      @NTNBearings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Paul, That is a good question. The best way to ensure you aren’t purchasing counterfeit NTN bearings is to purchase from an authorized NTN distributor. Our NTN websites offer ways to search for our authorized distributors. We aggressively pursue the import/export/sale of counterfeit bearings around the world, but counterfeit bearings can often be purchased from legitimate looking websites that turn out to be fake. NTN also offers a bearing authentication app that can be used to scan the label on an NTN bearing package to ensure it is not counterfeit: ntnamericas.com/technical-resources/bearing-authentication/
      There are additional, industry-wide resources available here: www.stopfakebearings.com/

    • @paulstandaert5709
      @paulstandaert5709 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NTNBearings Can you explain the package labeling thing for people to understand? Are all bearings supposed to arrive with some such QR code on the packaging?
      I recently bought a bunch of NSK bearings off of Amazon. NSK also says they do the secure QR code thing.
      www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TDDDV8T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      There was no QR code on the packaging. The inner race had "Poland" engraved on the inner race and "China" molded into the grease seal. I suspect counterfeit.
      What about automotive wheel bearings from the auto parts stores? Should I expect to see a QR code with them as well?

    The cage is a critically important component. If the cage corrodes and breaks, the balls all move to one side and the bearing falls apart under load. The cage will probably be the first to fail in a corroded bearing.

    Grease must fill high quality which bear high temperature

    • @NTNBearings
      @NTNBearings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the bearing grease is very important and is often overlooked. The primary role of lubrication is to reduce friction between bearing components and help dissipate heat. Lubrication also serves as a vital barrier of protection against contaminants. Lubricants also help bearings endure different loads and act as a stabilizing agent for bearing structures. Lubrication is one of the most important factors impacting the operation and longevity of bearings, which is why it is important to inspect and monitor bearing function on a regular basis.

    • @sidecarbod1441
      @sidecarbod1441 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No they didn't, the inner race is pushed to one side, all the balls are loaded up in the big gap that is now formed on the other side between the inner and outer race. The balls are then separated which locates the inner race into its central position at the same time. The cage holds the balls in their correct location, without the cage all the balls would bunch up at one side and the inner race would then fall out!

    • @ytubepuppy
      @ytubepuppy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sidecarbod1441 To get the balls to fit, the outer "A" ring is squeezed slightly, then released. From that point on, the balls will stay in place. In tight tolerance bearings, the balls will not fit into the gap without squeezing the "A" ring.

    • @sidecarbod1441
      @sidecarbod1441 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ytubepuppy I have disassembled a ball bearing in the past, without the cage in place it is possible to push all the balls to one side so that they are touching each other, once this is done there is enough room opposite the balls to remove the inner race. So it is clear that the reverse of this process is how the complete ball bearing is made. Try it, get hold of a bearing and pull out the cage, the rest of the bearing will just fall to pieces!
      EDIT..At 3:18 you can see the balls all at one side of the bearing, the narrator then says " A ball divider positions the balls evenly around the raceways" There is no squeezing of a "A" ring!

    • @ytubepuppy
      @ytubepuppy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sidecarbod1441 Yes, there is a station on the assembly process right after the "ball insertion" stage called the "ball gathering" stage where a stopper comes up to hold the balls in place, the inner ring is spun, causing all the balls to gather in one spot, then the "ball separator" fingers come up between the balls, followed by the upper cage insertion to stabilize the balls then the lower cage with the rivets, then the rivet press.
      There is also a salvage process in which the rivets are pressed back out, the cages removes, the rings separated, and the balls scrapped before the rings are reassembles.

      Yea, I too watched the whole video, solely to try to learn that. And they did not say how.
      Luckily someone here in the comments hinted on what sounds to me like the right answer, which is that:
      - the balls all packed together against each other, only fill, roughly half the circumference of the rings races.
      - so, while feeding in the balls, the inner ring is out of center, and touching the outer ring on one side.
      - then just space out the balls, and the rings self center and cannot separate anymore.
