How tall do the red plants grow? I have a 20 gallon high

Hi Lorenzo. I have mine planted in a 5.5 Aqueon which is only 10 inches tall. They're about 6 inches tall. My light sits on top of the tank so lighting is quite strong. A 20 tall is roughly 17 inches tall. Without knowing how powerful your light is, I'd imagine if you grew them, they'd stretch taller.

    Update?

Hi Farajaraf. I wish I had an update on these plants. I put them in a small 5 gallon very temporary tank which I intended for a new tank build. With the chaos this virus has caused I never got the new tank up and running. Needless to say, the plants aren't in good shape due to the lack of attention on my part. It wouldn't be fair to do a review on these at this time but I'm willing to repurchase and give them a real shot once things get back to normal. Thanks for checking in!! :)

How are the cardinalis? I’m starting my first planted aquarium! The red plant

Hi Scott! The cardinalis are the only plants in the bunch that are still going strong. To be fair, all of these plants were purchased right before covid hit and I really didn't care for them the way I could have. The cardinalis have stayed fairly compact. I have them planted in Fluval Stratum. Haven't been using ferts or root tabs and somehow they just keep on going for me. Goodluck on your first planted tank Scott!

I love the pink flamingo crypts they provide a great contrast to the other green plants. I use root tabs and kinda high light with mine. I’ve never purchased plants from a big box store but I might need to investigate.

Welcome Mad Fish Diva! I was kind of shocked at the selection to be honest. As for the pink flamingo crypts...@ $9.99...yes please!!! I've been tempted to order them online but with the price some are asking for them, I figured I'd wait until the cost came down. Of the two, Petco came way ahead as far as selection was concerned...they even had spider wood and bags of dragon stone and seiryu stone! If I'm not mistaken, Petco bought out Fosters and Smith, pet food/supplies etc, but Live Aquaria took over the live fish. Might explain the positive changes. Thanks for watching Mad Fish Diva, much appreciated!

I just bought that red one from petsmart too. Did you have any luck with it.

Hi Alison, out of all of the plants I have on that counter, the cardinalis are the only ones still alive. I will say though, the tank has been set up for just over a year now but those plants are only about 3 inches tall despite the back of the package claiming they grow between 10-24". I did experience some plant melt in the very beginning. They are planted in Fluval Stratum substrate, no CO2 and no added ferts. Thanks so much for watching (I know it wasn't easy, I was super sick when I filmed this) and hoping for the best for your plants! Goodluck :)

Thanks for responding. I planted them in a nano tank in the background in fluval stratum also. They look so pretty in the store I couldn’t resist.

I planted the same "cardinalis" plants in my tank along with some of the topfin bacopa and their java moss padd. I'm about 2 weeks into them growing and all signs point towards the java moss and cardinalis growing well. The bacopa jury is still out. Seems to be no change yet for better or worse.

You rock girl!!! Thank you so much :) I was pleasantly surprised by the selections that were being offered at these big box stores. Many won't purchase their fish there (some people do of course), but for those who don't, it might get some folks in the stores to see what options are available out there. Thank you, again, for sharing and helping me get this out to more people :)

They look nice but I can't seem to grow those kind of plants but they probably need CO2 & a good light.

Hi Yanji Yang. I have 5 planted tanks up and running with no co2 at all. One of them is a shrimp tank where I have a carpet of dwarf baby tears growing. The growth is slower, but I have managed to get a carpet going. Lighting is important, depending on what you want to grow. I'm using Current Satellite Pro Plus lights. They are pretty powerful if need be, and can be dialed way back if needed too. If you have low light, grow low light plants :) Ferns, buce and anubias would be a great start!
