AquaFx RODI unit. Making PURE water for fresh water aquarium use
I chose to purchase the AquaFx Octopus rodi unit over the AquaFx Barracuda rodi unit because the Octopus is a 1 to 1 ratio when it comes to the amount of waste water created which is much less than other units. I made an error in the video and said 4 to 1. I store my rodi water in a 250 gallon IBC tote in my garage. I pull from it on demand and mineralize the pure water in 5 gallon buckets to each tanks specifications.

Acclimating my new Galaxy Koi Betta fish-Modified Fluval Spec V (5 gallon)
มุมมอง 1.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Let's face it, bringing home a new fish from your local fish store can be stressful for your new water pet. Pet store water can be very different than your aquarium water which can really stress an already stressed fish out. Stressed fish are prone to sickness, so here, I explain how to gently acclimate your new fish to both temperature and new water parameters to make the transition easier. If...
Petsmart & Petco Aquarium Tissue Culture plant haul :) Pink Flamingo crypts :o
มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I've been noticing that Petsmart and Petco have been upping their aquatics game lately in the aquascaping side of things. I think Petco is pulling further ahead out of the 2, but it's nice to see the direction things are going in. It doesn't stop at plants either. Varieties of wood and stone have been spotted at Petco too!

21 Day color shift update on my male betta fish with the Marble Gene
มุมมอง 664 ปีที่แล้ว
I picked up this beautiful male betta fish 21 days ago and it has been a pleasure to get to know his personality, and watch him happily use an entire 10 gallon tank after being cramped in a tiny cup all of his life. If that wasn't enough enjoyment, this little guy came with a surprise...the Marble Gene. I adopted this little guy when he was all white with a splash of blue on part of his tail fi...
How I hatch LIVE BABY BRINE shrimp to feed my fish

This is a step by step to show you how I set up my brine shrimp hatchery from start to finish. There are several different types of hatcheries available on the market. I chose this one as my first because it doesn't require an air pump or any additional lighting. Baby brine is great to feed nano fish and fry and a great source of natural nutrition that also brings out natural behaviors of your ...

New betta boy! Will he color shift??
มุมมอง 1174 ปีที่แล้ว
My new betta fish! Will he keep this look, or will his color change with time? Only time will tell! I don't know the genetics of this fish. All I know is he's a male halfmoon plakat...the cup he came in told me so. He also needs a name!
Wow!!
This was so interesting. I had never seen a fish morph before

How tall do the red plants grow? I have a 20 gallon high
Hi Lorenzo. I have mine planted in a 5.5 Aqueon which is only 10 inches tall. They're about 6 inches tall. My light sits on top of the tank so lighting is quite strong. A 20 tall is roughly 17 inches tall. Without knowing how powerful your light is, I'd imagine if you grew them, they'd stretch taller.

How are the cardinalis? I’m starting my first planted aquarium! The red plant
Hi Scott! The cardinalis are the only plants in the bunch that are still going strong. To be fair, all of these plants were purchased right before covid hit and I really didn't care for them the way I could have. The cardinalis have stayed fairly compact. I have them planted in Fluval Stratum. Haven't been using ferts or root tabs and somehow they just keep on going for me. Goodluck on your first planted tank Scott!
Great
Well done! Tank you for this sharing and thumb up!
Thank you!! And thank you for watching!
Lovely tank setup
Thank you Mr Aquatic NEWS!
I just got the octopus reverse osmosis sister but is not producing any water, I don’t know what is wrong, all the water is coming out from the waste line, my psi is only 10 psi but the system has the buster pump so the shouldn’t be a problem. I try to restrict the waste line to increase the psi but 1 is super hard to close it and 2 is not decreasing the waste flow at all
Alonso, 10 psi is really low, it should read at least 40, but ideally it should read around 60 psi (double check for your specific units sweet spot psi). The yellow "T" (drain line) valve arrives mostly open. Slowly closing it should increase the psi. If you're still having trouble with getting your unit to produce RO water, I'd contact the company. AquaFX have really good customer service. Hope everything works out for you Alonso!

I just bought that red one from petsmart too. Did you have any luck with it.
Hi Alison, out of all of the plants I have on that counter, the cardinalis are the only ones still alive. I will say though, the tank has been set up for just over a year now but those plants are only about 3 inches tall despite the back of the package claiming they grow between 10-24". I did experience some plant melt in the very beginning. They are planted in Fluval Stratum substrate, no CO2 and no added ferts. Thanks so much for watching (I know it wasn't easy, I was super sick when I filmed this) and hoping for the best for your plants! Goodluck :)
Thanks for responding. I planted them in a nano tank in the background in fluval stratum also. They look so pretty in the store I couldn’t resist.
I planted the same "cardinalis" plants in my tank along with some of the topfin bacopa and their java moss padd. I'm about 2 weeks into them growing and all signs point towards the java moss and cardinalis growing well. The bacopa jury is still out. Seems to be no change yet for better or worse.
Hi Jen, thanks for the video. I was just reading about red discoloration in academic journals. I noticed your betta's red color disappeared after 2 months. May I know the update on this betta fish of yours, does it remain like this? Thank you.
Hello SnippetsHub :) The blue on this handsome betta is now everywhere except around the bulge part of his left eye that remained white. I see no red at all. I do however see a slight metallic teal/green sheen depending on how the light hits his scales. Hope this answer was helpful to you. Thanks for watching!!
@@jengsaquatics689 Thanks for replying. Oh that's interesting. By any chance do you use rock salt/Himalayan salt for your tank, or any other type?
Holy color change! 😶 Still beautiful of course, though! Your tank looks like a really nice environment for him, too. 👍
Indeed! He is now fully navy blue with some sporadic metallic teal scales with big white eyes. I've named him Cookie Monster...looks just like him, minus the fur of course ;) He's enjoying his 10 gallon all to himself...so spoiled lol
Beautiful fish! Love the plants!
Please update how he is now.....
Hello! My betta is now 100% blue. Last week part of his tail started turning white, but it is now back to dark blue all over. Thank you for watching!
But the blue looks diffrent I wish I can see some updates with videos in near future.... Cheers thanks for your reply
Update?
Hi Farajaraf. I wish I had an update on these plants. I put them in a small 5 gallon very temporary tank which I intended for a new tank build. With the chaos this virus has caused I never got the new tank up and running. Needless to say, the plants aren't in good shape due to the lack of attention on my part. It wouldn't be fair to do a review on these at this time but I'm willing to repurchase and give them a real shot once things get back to normal. Thanks for checking in!! :)
Hi Jen, the betta is a beauty. Just a question about the fluval spec that you have, have you tried the lights on a timer? There is no info about it on the internet. Thanks
Hi Nayan Mistry, the stock light that comes with the Fluval Spec does in fact work with a timer (doesn't come default though, you have to buy one). You just will never have the blue moonlight function. It will only be on/off, which is perfectly fine in my opinion. Thank you for watching!! :)
@@jengsaquatics689 thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it. How are you finding the tank, besides having removed the back compartment. I am thinking of buying one for my bedroom and having a super delta betta in there, but I wasn't sure if the lights can be used with a timer. How is the betta?
@@nayanmistry4641 The tank is beautiful. It's what got me into fish keeping. The dimensions are quite small , long but narrow (it is 5 gallons/19 litres) so it's to be expected. However you will decorate it, keep in mind you will have you wipe down the glass, so leave room or have things that can easily be moved for cleaning. Plenty of space for a single betta. You will have to add an intake sponge or something to baffle the outflow as even at the lowest output on the pump, can be too much flow for a betta. The tank comes with everything you need except a heater, so for the price, it is worth it. My betta is well, but no longer lives here. I gave him to a friend of mine who was feeling a little too isolated with the stay at home orders that have been put in place due to the virus. She calls me often to thank me for her new friend :) Totally worth the loss to know she's so happy!
@@jengsaquatics689 that awesome, I hope the isolation is not dampening your spirit either! I already have a 53 gallon fluval tank in the living room but wanted a betta tank for my bedroom. There is so much choice its difficult to know which is best suited without knowing the facts. I'd shot listed the fluval spec v and fluval flex 9 gallon tank, but for a single fish the spec seems the best. Thanks again for the info and stay safe 😉
Nice video!
Thanks Recon338! Appreciate you stopping by :)
Jen G's Aquatics your welcome! Thanks for the video
How long does that IBC last you? And is this just for the shrimp, or for all of your tanks?
Hi deadfred821, I go through 250 gallons about every 5-6 months at this time. I have two 5 gals, four 10 gals and a 20 long running currently, and I do use the ro water for all of them. I just mineralize the water according to specific needs when doing water changes, and use pure ro for just top offs due to evaporation. My tap water has really high silicates which causes really bad brown diatom algae. It's just easier for me to start with a blank canvas. Thanks for watching :)
I didn’t even know you could grow live brine shrimp from home. I think I’ll try feeding her dried or frozen ones first and then try doing a hatchery of live shrimp. I used to worry since my betta doesn’t eat as much as I expected her too but it’s probably because she’s still really small and young. She’s still really active and seems happy in her new tank so it should be fine
Hi Camille R and welcome :) My adult bettas eat the newly hatched baby brine but I do feed them frozen blood worms and pellets most of the time. The fact there is something moving around in the tank triggers their natural drive to hunt for food. I'm sure your little girl will take to these like (insert bad pun here) a fish to water hehe. Thanks for watching!
Where did u buy this beautiful Male?
Hi Sebastian, I found him at my local Petco. He was so different from every selection they had and I could tell he was full of spunk. Super healthy too. I'm lucky to have a Petco that seem to have people who really take good care of their aquarium section of the store. Thank you so much for watching! :)

Beautiful tank & are you using CO2 with them to grow them & nice betta.
Hi and thank you Yanji Yang :) I have 6 tanks with live plants. I don't use co2 in any of them. I used to have a regulator that I used with a paintball canister 2 years ago, but it fell over and the valve hit the counter and never worked again. I'm enjoying the low tech/less maintenance aspect of my current tanks. I do however have an empty tank I have yet to set up that I may do co2 again, but I'm undecided as I have yet to come up with an aquascape plan for it.
Beautiful tank!
Thank you Landon! Very new set up and room for more plant growth...it's a work in progress :)
That scape looks amazing. I have the same tank and I'm about to scale it as well.

@@jengsaquatics689 and you also. Your welcome, looking forward to your future content
I love the pink flamingo crypts they provide a great contrast to the other green plants. I use root tabs and kinda high light with mine. I’ve never purchased plants from a big box store but I might need to investigate.
Welcome Mad Fish Diva! I was kind of shocked at the selection to be honest. As for the pink flamingo crypts...@ $9.99...yes please!!! I've been tempted to order them online but with the price some are asking for them, I figured I'd wait until the cost came down. Of the two, Petco came way ahead as far as selection was concerned...they even had spider wood and bags of dragon stone and seiryu stone! If I'm not mistaken, Petco bought out Fosters and Smith, pet food/supplies etc, but Live Aquaria took over the live fish. Might explain the positive changes. Thanks for watching Mad Fish Diva, much appreciated!
They look nice but I can't seem to grow those kind of plants but they probably need CO2 & a good light.
Hi Yanji Yang. I have 5 planted tanks up and running with no co2 at all. One of them is a shrimp tank where I have a carpet of dwarf baby tears growing. The growth is slower, but I have managed to get a carpet going. Lighting is important, depending on what you want to grow. I'm using Current Satellite Pro Plus lights. They are pretty powerful if need be, and can be dialed way back if needed too. If you have low light, grow low light plants :) Ferns, buce and anubias would be a great start!
These look nice...shared you on the Facebook Fishtuber Notifications....👍👈
You rock girl!!! Thank you so much :) I was pleasantly surprised by the selections that were being offered at these big box stores. Many won't purchase their fish there (some people do of course), but for those who don't, it might get some folks in the stores to see what options are available out there. Thank you, again, for sharing and helping me get this out to more people :)
Also what light are you using to help the plants grow so green & what filter are you using.
My 20 long with the Chili Rasboras is a Zoo Med Nano 30 canister filter with a pre filter sponge on the intake. Both 10 gallon shrimp tanks I'm using double sponge filters by Aquaneat I ordered on Amazon. They sell 4 packs (size small for under $12). They also have a range of different sizes depending on your needs. I have ordered more dual sponge filters made by Hygger that have little compartments for adding ceramic media in addition to sponge. Those can be an option too if you wanted to add more biological filtration. All of my tanks I'm using Current USA lights...it's their "Satellite LED Plus Pro". I like that they have built in timers and you can customize them. They are pretty powerful, so if you ever wanted to use high light demanding plants with co2, they will work. I'm not using co2 in my tanks at the moment so I have dialed the light strength way back. Hope this helps and answers all of your questions :) Again, thank you for watching!
Beautiful tanks plus the plants I'll have to grab some shrimps soon only have 3 atm & thought they'll breed left to right but I definitely will get more .
Thank you so much for watching Yanji Yang! I appreciate it :) How long have you had your shrimp, what species, and do you know how many males and females you have? I put 15 shrimp in each tank at the beginning. I figured the odds of having both males and females were good. I saw my first babies 6 weeks later.
Thanks for the update! Hope you feel better
Thank you!! I appreciate it :)

I love how he's turning out. I had no clue the white fish I brought home a couple of weeks ago would end up looking so colorful :)

I love how personable bettas are...never shy away, always front and center demanding attention (most likely food lol) and so many different variations in color, size and fin types. It all comes with a catch...you can't have a tank filled with them because they're little killin machines who will fight to the death over who is the prettiest ;)
