    Klasse! Vielen Dank für das Video. Saß damals live vor dem TV und habe die Klassik/Rock-Nacht mir angesehen; kann mich noch gut an die weibliche Stimme erinnern, die plötzlich oben auftauchte. Das war was neues für TD damals ... Man beachte außerdem Eberhard Schöner als Dirigent am Pult und als Initiator der damlaigen Events. Kiew Mission (Exit) erschien erst 1982 auf LP, aber es war absolut toll, diese Stück dann doch endlich zu Hause genießen zu können.
    Schöne Erinnerungen werden wach!

    What is really missing in this picture is power in the synthesizers. If you look closely no displays are glowing. There are also almost no cables at all in the modular and quite frankly, it's impossible to play a modular like he does in about 18:00. The same goes for Froese at the end of the video - it's all theatre. Only the orchestra is live.

    • @Uvisir

      +A Million Orange Dolphins dude its a simple melody loop running there. it does not require mad patching to make that.

    • @amillionorangedolphins9663
      @amillionorangedolphins9663 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Uvisir That was kind of my point, but from a different angle ;) The modulars still need som prepatching, and the keyboards need power to work ... properly ;)

      +A Million Orange Dolphins Please ck the video at the 17:50 mark the sequencers are running and cycling thru as evidenced by their LEDs The patch cords are in use. So not sure what you're observing or not .

      I think you need some new glasses, there are displays flashing on all synths. That doesn't mean there are some parts taped, TD did that since the early days.

    there is no way that the music and video are concurrent. Anything that looks like cause and effect is a coincidence. Firstly there is bugger all correlation between what you see and what you hear but also there is no way that anyone would cut the cameras to the music in the way done here. Even an absolute novice would eventually cut something relevant occasionally.

    Many halfbaked comments below but is it any wonder with such a video? It starts when the piece is already well underway and then sound and picture goes further and further out of synchronisation. Surely this was played live, including the orchestral percussion being too late most of the time, probably because of monitoring problems or bad microphone placement. It's not the last analog concert either since this is full of digital PPG 360 / 380 and Wave Stuff. As per the best period: I think everyhting is good untill Schmoeling left, so also the Baumann years. After that the musak starts to take over. Best ever in my opinion? This from White Eagle (when played right so better listen to the album version) and Logos.

    I'm a big fan of TD but find it extremely irritating that almost all footage of their live gigs (including this one) does not match the sound. You could argue that it is a sync issue, but since rarely, if any footage matches the keyboard action it I leads me to think that almost all of their live shows from that era are playback only.

    • @MalakitQuartet
      @MalakitQuartet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sat in the front row on the Optical Race tour in New Orleans. I watch closely at every concert to see what is live and what is backing tracks. Tangerine Dream certainly was playing live as I caught Edgar slip off a key and it certainly synced with what I heard. Every knob twist was audible. For prerecorded shows, go see Roger Waters.

  • @timdowns7937
    @timdowns7937 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This is dreadful, why in God’s name did the boys sign up for this. the music is out of synch, I don’t think the band themselves are playing live although Edgar’s custom sequencer rig is up and running and Chris’ sequencers I love this band so much, and I love this track. but this orchestral arrangement, noooooo!

  • @sturoc0
    @sturoc0 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Wow this is the worst. I mean the music is great as TD can be BUT either this is way off out of sync or not the actual audio recording of this event. The vocalist is nowhere to be heard yet is singing into a mic..so where is her voice ? I watched intently as Chris Edgar and Johannes play and they are not playing what we are hearing. to Qualify I am a musician so I know what to look for and hear.

      Ich verstehe Sie voll und ganz, die Synchronizität zu den Aufnahmen ist auf keine Art und Weise übereinstimmend. Das fällt den normalen Zuhörern nicht auf, und wird bewusst so von Anfang bis zum Ende durch gezogen. Schade, aber ist so wie es ist. Ein kritischer aber sehr ehrlicher Kommentar.

    Out of sync, even if the synth stuff is running on tape. It's a shame. Showboating Jean Michel Jarre is guilty as well. Anyway the music is from my favourite TD era mid 70's to early 80's.

    • @Ramblin-Man
      @Ramblin-Man 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark Keen : 'Ricochet' was my first album, bought it in '77, 16 years old. And U are right; ''Rubycon', 'Statosfear', 'Force Majeure'...wow! But lots of their 80s stuff is great s ell,m except for the many soundtrack albums ('The Keep' being the exception to the rule...stoopid movie thouigh, but I still watch it now and then). Same with Klaus Schulze, before he went digital. Can you beat 'Moondawn'? Strangely enough, TD is continuing recording, although Edgar himself said in 2015 that TD would be no more by the end of 2015...
      Managed to catch TD three times; an outdoor gig in Warsaw 2001, in Royal Albert Hall April 1 2009 (available as a 3-CD release, wotsitsname...), and a third time almost exactly two years ago in Copenhagen, performing the extended version of 'Sorcerer', with support acts Michael Rother of Kraftwerk and Neu! fame, as well as (Dieter) Möbius (who died 6 months after Edgar Froese, also aged 70...) - and surprise guest William Friedkin, director of the remake 'Sorcerer' (1977) and 'The Exorcist' (1973)!

    • @SharpblueCreative
      @SharpblueCreative 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +J.A. Yes saw them in the early 80's circa Exit era, though played parts of Force Majeure, Tangram etc, later 80's Livemiles, Tyger, Miracle Mile, Underwater Sunlight in the 90's Orange Light Years, 220 Volt Live etc. Of all the TD stuff I own, and it's lots, Tangram, Force Majeure, White Eagle, Exit, Ricochet, Rubycon, Stratofear, Hyperborea, Logos are my 'go to' albums.
      Johannes Schmoelling and Jerome Froese have formed LOOM and play Tangerine Dream stuff - check them out on YT if you haven't already done so, their version of Choronzon is awesome.
      As for Klaus Schulze, yes have loads of his early work, 30 or more albums but for me Timewind and Blackdance are my all time favourites with Irrlicht, Moodawn, Cyborg and Picture Music often getting listens. I travel on a countryside bus route in the UK (Swindon to Devizes) regularly through the Wiltshire countryside through Avebury stone circle - this music on decent headphones is what I tend to listen too.

    • @Ramblin-Man
      @Ramblin-Man 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Didn't know about LOOM, thanx, will mois def check them out! I used to have all the TD and Schulze albums until I sold all my 5,500 LPs in 2007...now I have like 100 TD albums anyway (and the rest of the old ones are downloaded and saved on an external HDD...Froese released CDs furiously in the end, at least 3 albums a year, plus all the unnecessary re-recordings (gotta have something to do with him not owning the rights to his own, older albums - just like Mike Oldfield, under his Richard Branson/Virgin slave contract for 30 years or so) and endless samplers.
      When it comes to Schulze, I recently sold his both Contemporary works (10 + 5 CDs, plus 2 bonus CDs) - didn't know they were so rare (sold them via Dutch Discogs), being released by Manikin some 15 years ago, and I bought them straight from the company's mail order business, owned by electronic musician Jörg Stroewe if I remember correctly), and lots of Iranians (in USA, I guess) are now hooked on Schulze (like he's hooked on Wagner...not Bach...;-) ), or so I read recently. I never bought his box of 50 CDs (also available as 10 + 20 +20 CDs ) unfortunately - worth a great deal today), but I have 16 triple CDs ("Moogethique" 1- 16) with all that stuff re-released + even more...and another 40 or so albums, including all the 11 or 12 with Pete Namlook, now all being re-released as well. Plus of course all the rest DL:ed on a HDD...and maybe 10 TD DVDs and 3-4 with Schulze. I'm selling off old stuff after I've saved them on an HDD, so I can buy new stuff, like all the Italian 70s Prog Rock that are now being re-released for pittens (£4-8 via Amazon UK Marketplace sellers).
      I never owned a car even a driver's license, but sometimes I used to manage to play tapes with TD, Schulze, Kitaro et al in long taxi rides in Central America or West Africa...some of the music turns me on n a way only heavy blues or prog rock can, whereas some Schulze stuff can make you fall asleep at the wheel...check out German duo Software, who released some 20 albums - several of them doubles) in maybe 10-12 years in the 80s and 90s, I think...(sometimes under the Mergener/Weisse moniker), they really rock digitally like TD and Schulze did circa '75-'77, wow!

    • @Ramblin-Man
      @Ramblin-Man 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Loom's 'Choronzon' was great!

    • @SharpblueCreative
      @SharpblueCreative 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Went through my Schulze collection - yes I have The Contemporary Works 1 & 2, got them mail order from his site back in 2000 / 2002. I'd forgotten about those. I didn't get the large 50 cd box set either but have a few recordings from them. They're ok but not up to the standard of the individual released stuff. I was given Moogethique and Dark Side of the Moog with Namlook, again I've only listened to them once or twice. As I lossless encoded all my CD's back in 2004 and put the discs in boxes in a cupboard I forget what I have stored away. There is a lot of stuff I have I didn't bother to do at the time. Oddly enough Wagner 'Der Ring Das Niberlungen' - all 15 hours of it - is one I didn't encode.
      As for other synth stuff I like Neuronium (Spanish) have quite a few of their albums. Michael Hoenig, Gabor Presser, John Dyson, Robert Schroeder, Software, Peru, Nova, Tim Blake, Wavestar, Peter Mergner & Michael Weisser, (The Innovative Communication label is worth checking out. Galaxies Cygnus A by Robert Schroeder is excellent, I think Klaus may have set that label up). Obviously I like J M Jarre and have all his stuff. Lots of Vangelis but not everything. Mike Oldfield - same as Vangelis. Too much to mention. LOL

    immer wieder lächerlich: "dirigenten"-gefuchtel. orchestermusiker spielen nach noten und WISSEN was sie WANN WIE spielen müssen.
    da hat keiner zeit, auf einen fuchtler mit steckerl in der hand zu gucken, sondern sieht auf seine noten. ob hier das was TD betrifft, gefaked ist, ist schwer zu sagen. da vermag ich mir kein urteil zu bilden. auf jeden fall: schon anzusehen/hören und immer wieder faszinierend.
