    Chris Franke is supedrb in his compositions
    After Edgar Froese left us, it is not possible to see Tangerine Dream reunited as they originally were.
    but we can enjoy the music they have given us.
    Franke, Froese, Baumann and Schmoelling were pioneers in electrical music.

      I don't think that would have ever happened... After reading Edgar Froese's Autobiography if there is one thing that stays clear is that their characters didn't fit at all, and that once Franke left TD (invited to leave by Froese, according to that same book) there would never be a way back.

    • @owenmcgee8496
      @owenmcgee8496 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd like to get Froese's autobiography once it is published in an English paperback at a more regular price rather than being published by Eastgate at something like 60 GB pounds. Lose the hardback cover and illustrations if need be, but it should be sold at a regular price.

      @@owenmcgee8496 I thought the same until I saw the book at a library. A4 size, relative small fonts (not bigger than 11pt) barely any pictures, and loooooots of content - it takes ages to read it. You see that book, and it really is worth the money they charge. It would be easier to get it as an Ebook than as a Paperback, unless you want it in Bible format. Anyway, very entertaining.

    27:38 Black Garden View is THE masterpiece. That soft haunting flute in the background every so often , the moment a descending portamento synth bass draws you ever in. The theme so deeply touching, soo hearbreaking. I listened to this over and over as I hiked the Niagara Glen down to the river on an early summer day, that flute beckoning me further thru the forest to the water's edge. Fond and lasting memories with Chris Franke providing the neccesary soundtrack of our lives.

  • @MarioVAmaya

    In this release it seems that Chris wanted to sum up some highlights of his previous TD style work under the form of remixes, include unreleased tunes from the same period, and then feel free to pursue other directions, namely, soft music ill-named as new age and also symphonic soundtracks, which very rarely resemble his old style. It looks like he made a conscious decision to not look back once this live album was released. His current music library sounds too impersonal and generic to my TD educated ears.
    Chris may have another reason to consciously avoid sounding like TD in his soundtrack work. He left the group and complained to the press of the excessive workload he had making film music. Froese felt betrayed and hurt, the two never talked again, TD never made another soundtrack for a big budget movie and Franke delivered music for some successful TV series in a very different style.

    • @MarioVAmaya
      @MarioVAmaya 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Regarding the claim by Chris that film work was draining their energies, it's very likely so. There are telling anomalies in their catalog. The Soldier (1982, made at the same time as The Keep) sounds unfinished and rushed, although containing the root of three classic tracks: Logos part 2, Dolphin Dance and Horizon. Each of them carries Chris' aural trademark. Then, The Park Is Mine (1986) is half Franke, half Schmölling, with no Froese to be heard anywhere. Three O'Clock High (1987) was partly handed to another composer with similar instruments - obviously there was some serious mishap here. And finally, Live Miles (1987) and Underwater Sunlight (1986) have both heavy Franke input and to all practical effects were strangely disowned by Edgar, even featuring some of their finest songs.

    As far as I know this is Franke’s only live performance after leaving Tangerine Dream. I’m of two minds with regard to Franke. I had hoped he would release an occasional album, perhaps every 2-3 years like Johannes Schmoelling while pursuing more lucrative film work. Perhaps an occasional live show. But that wasn’t to be and all we have of him post TD is this short show and a couple of albums. Most everything else is cues from tv and movies. So that makes me kind of sad.
    On the other hand if you look at his web site you will see picture of what appears to be his home studio with beautiful views and all the equipment a gearhead could dream of. So perhaps he is living his best life making lots of money on tv shows like The Amazing Race and Supernanny. I’m grateful for the great music he made with TD and I hope he has achieved happiness.

    This guy needs to make a comeback of sorts. PCH was a lovely album, and there's nothing wrong with that, or some of his soundtrack work, but I always felt there was an incredible album of electronic music in him we haven't heard just yet.
    You'd think with all of today's modern technology he could work somewhat freely and let his creative genius flow.
    I don't mind that Thorsten has continued on the TD name, but it seems to me that if Chris gave Peter Baumann a call (or Johannes Schmoelling, or both) we could hear a real Tangerine Dream album once again.

    • @JacobVBurg
      @JacobVBurg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@trevorsanders5303 I sort of agree, but something I didn't know until recently is that Froese's wife is the manager of the band. As far as I know, she has total legal rights to the name, so it's less about Thorsten being in control and more about her keeping him as the defacto musical leader because he worked so closely with Froese. I wish it could happen, but I don't see the dynamic in TD changing anytime soon. Hoping for a Franke/Baumann/Schmelling reunion is a nice idea but it probably won't ever happen.

    His best show/live/album.
    Why didn't he gave us much more of this.
    I don't know exactly ...maybe he could earn more money with the B5 soundtracks.And that would be a real good reason.
    But this album here really is his masterpiece and I hope that maybe some day ,he does an other one like this.
    Than contact Baumann , Schmoelling and Jerome Froese ,for a tiny unforgettable tour ...playing all the best from the best era of TD , which in my opinion was FFB and FFS . Jerome could do the guitar parts of his father.
    Oh my god ...that all would be a dream come true to me .
    I know it will possibly never happen...but its a kind of a tangerine dream!
