    The F4 key was used to disable "Super Secret Settings". I guess that hotkeys was never deleted in the code to allow this toggle option of the spectator view.

      That makes sense considering that the super secret settings are still in the game and are what is used for the creeper, enderman, and spider effects

    1:55 is actually really well known if you play multiplayer. The player who gets aggro keeps the aggro for the mob, even when you attack(ed) the mob. I don't know if this was changed/fixed, but a common strategy early on would be that one player charges in to do a hit and the other then kills the creepers etc.

      I think it's an optimization byproduct, just imagine the minecraft engine always checking and calculating the path for the closest (moving) villagers every tics.
      My poor pentium laptop would literally fainted lol

      @@Psychopatz it already calculates the path each tick anyway. Just the step of picking a target is omitted if a target is already selected which computationally is not an expensive operation either way.

    4:14 I wonder how many other bugs existed since 1.3 from the singleplayer-multiplayer merge, I know the damage tilt was one that was broken from this for years that they only recently fixed

      The Minecraft wiki actually has a page for this exact question.
      I don’t remember all the bugs that were introduced. Though the one that sticks out to me was the Ghast shooting animation. It never worked on servers, and was never fixed to work on a server. Even when the entire game became server.

    Lever mining speed is such an oddity. I noticed it many times over the years, but never considered it a bug - I always reasoned that it was intentional since an active lever supplies a constant redstone signal and breaking it accidentally could trigger a redstone mechanism.

      Actually it used to be that you couldn't mine a lever or button without activating it, which was nice for making traps. I think the mining speed oddity is because buttons are either wooden or stone, but levers aren't any specific material, and you don't get enchantment or tool boosts unless you're using the right tool, which doesn't exist because it isn't wooden or stone.

    5:34 this one is not a bug. It is a necessary quirk, as the allows forest to be grown. If this were not the case, trees could never be grown near each other, as the leaves on any tree that attempts to grow must have at least a 1-block gap from between any leaves and any preexisting block on the same y-level as the leaf. In order to make the game work in an expected way and seni-realistic way, particularly for Acacia and large oak trees, this has to account for logs. As far as the leaves go, they need to be able to not get the tree growth canceled due to overlapping things like tall grass, ferns, extra-long grass, large ferns, and other leaves. In fact, them not doing this with snow layers is arguably a bug, or at least an issue, as snow layers that generate from snow on top of trees in snowy biomes can make you unable to plant trees near each other very often if there has ever been rain/snow while the area was loaded.

      plus in the real world you can combine different trees by Grafting (i hope its the right word (im german))
      but if the sapling is oak and the block is spruce the rest of the tree needs to be spruce as well for it to make sense

      @@user-wr6kj9hc4k the English word is grafting, and your right. One thing about real-world tree grafting: the trees have to be biologically similar usually if not only possible to do between trees from the same family.

    Is the lava one not just the lava causing the block to drop as an item - the same as water, but the item being destroyed by the lava on the same tick? That's the same sound effect for when an item is destroyed by lava. Also, why would water create a sound or smoke effect? It's not destroying anything, just moving it.

      I would expect a normal breaking sound when blocks get destroyed by water.

      @@gyroninjamodder i can't remember off the top of my head, but do other non-player means of breaking blocks make sound? like a piston destroying a flower. if it does then the water should as well, but if it doesn't then the water shouldn't for consistency

    10:04 I've posted a related bug WAY back, arrows fired from a dispenser do not reflect ghast fireballs. The reason is, all the projectile knockback is derived from the rotation of the entity firing the entity, but since in the case of the dispenser there is no entity shooting the arrows, no knockback is applied and therefore the fireballs do not reflect.
    Also makes for some interesting cases where you can shoot at a ghast fireball and then turn 180 degrees to hit yourself with the fireball that you shot at.

      IMO it should use the projectile rotation, not the shooter rotation, it just makes sense

      Dispensed arrows actually do reflect Ghast fireballs in the current version (and I think they have for a while?). Due to another bug, though, where projectile rotation is flipped along the X and Y axis in relation to their actual direction of movement for some reason, the direction in which the fireball actually gets reflected might not be what you'd expect. (Dispensed snowballs and eggs still can't reflect fireballs, though, but fire charges can.)

    10:41 as far as i remember f4 was used to toggle or do something with super secret shaders, those shaders being available in the setting themselves, probably being why it toggles them

    The bug at 4:12 with the nether and end portal text just saying 'loading terrain' could be because servers often use portals in hubs to bring people places. Intentional or not I think it is better this way.

    I know why the beacon bug happens, it's because of re-applying regen every couple of seconds. Regen seemingly heals based on the remaining ticks of the effect, so reapplying it frequently can increase or decrease the regen rate. Same also applies to poison and wither dealing damage.

    The tick advance thing is quite useful in time travel/glitched speedrun, as you can utilize it to perform tick perfect strats.

    8:34 - I think the chunk is still loaded after you die because of the death screen while you are AFK, not because of the bug. The bug is about entities still being visible (or loaded) at the client side even after they despawned at the server side.

    In the final bug, f4 disables the effect because it is the button to disable overlays, such as the hotbar, potion effect TOAST boxes, and screen filters(including the now removed Super Secret Shaders, the Spectator shaders(remnants of the Super Secret Shaders), the spyglass border, the f3/debug screen, and the carved pumpkin mask.
    The fact it doesn't go away is a bug though, but that is why f4 would do that.

      @@leftory684 I guess it is the more niche thing I was thinking of then. Basically, f4 was the toggle for the Super Secret Settings feature, and since creeper vision is one of the Super Secret Settings shaders(even though the setting button is no longer in the game), it still can be enabled and disabled with the key.

    Just so you know, In the lava sound bug (7:28) the lava burns the items and that is where the sound comes from. If it didn't destroy the block, then it would not make that sound. So because water doesn't entirely destroy they items that it hits, it therefore doesn't make that sound. This is not a bug just a feature. A good example of this is when you drop anything made of netherite it will not burn and doesn't make that sound. Also that particle that appears is the smoke particle (The campfire smoke has a different particle) is because the item is burned.

    7:02 actually came across this one fairly often. it also works if you stay in adventure mode, have a tool which can break a certain block, i.e. an iron pickaxe which can break diamond ore, but then have the ore be immediately replaced by another solid block, i.e. stone, immediately after it is destroyed. the breaking animation will continue to play in adventure mode, even when using a tool that does not have the explicit ability to break said block.

    The survival inventory thing annoys me to no end because the person submitting it never bothered to try it with the other buttons, which it also works on (i just tested). I think the reasoning behind it is that in the code the game switches tab on a "click release" event rather than "click depressed" event and has nothing to do with the type of tab you want to click on.

    When I watched a set seed world record, I wondered why they went into the stats menu a few times at the end, but the bug at 3:10 explains it. They were probably advancing the game tick by tick to time the one-shot of the dragon.

    i have occasionally gotten that block breaking animation bug by simply moving away from the block while i was breaking it, usually by falling

    I think the reason for the beacon one is that beacons continually give you regen, rather than just giving it to you once. Regen has a timer that determines when next to increase your heart, but every time you get re given regen the timer resets. So what happens is, the beacon gives you regen, the timer ticks down, you get a half a heart and the timer resets, but before the timer can reach 0 again the beacon gives you regen, wich resets the timer.
    I haven't seen the code, so I don't know for sure, but I assume thats what the issue is. I know I've had to deal with this issue when messing with command blocks and mods in the past.

    The last one probably has the F4 toggling because you, in a very early version of the game, could manually apply those spectator effects with a menu button, I think it was in the graphics settings. So maybe they just forgot to remove part of the code. Although I would like that button to be back, as it would allow for fun new Minecraft challenge videos.

    Fun fact: the fishing rod swap glitch was largely taken advantage of on Hypixel skyblock to, among other things, fish up lava Sea Creatures much faster.
    It existed for a while, but as far as I know, it was eventually patched out on the server side with no players receiving punishment for using it.

    6:20 did you hear that? Here, Listen to it again. 6:20 Its a wood mining sound. It actually does affect the speed if YOU USE THE RIGHT TOOL! Use the Axe next time, if you want to break a lever. Boom.
    Although, with a lever, I would guess that it should be broken with a pickaxe, but its broken with a axe.

    Doing a bit of research: that F4 toggle seems to be a leftover from the Super Secret Settings. According to the Minecraft Wiki in update 14w05b it was added so Super Secret Settings were toggled by F4…so, the Super Secret Settings still have an effect, that makes me happy.

    The jump effect for the water is indeed intentional [ 2:18 ]. The purpose of this jumping effect is to give you the ability to jump out of the water no matter if there is a block under you or not. This helps with any areas of the water that has cobblestone or other material that is harder to destroy. Without this, you would have to destroy that block in front of you so you can have a block to jump off of.

    6:23 because you using a pickaxe. But the sounds of the lever breaking is the same as wood. So just use an axe to break it.

    7:04 I ACTUALLY HAVE seen this one! I've seen it multiple times when switching to spectator! I didn't know it also worked in adventure though! But did you know that if you pull back a trident in survival then switch to spectator, you can still launch it while in spectator?

    Another bug which is really annoying and hasn't been fixed since the trident released is mc-136249 where when using a riptide trident you are significantly slower with it while wearing depth strider which makes no sense and is really annoying.

    7:50 that sound is for burning items not destroying. water just brakes items not burns them and you can pick them up

    7:02 i have a lot of experience with this bug, ive done a lot of switching players in and out of adventure and sometimes, this bug has made it easier, other times its been really annoying

    if you want to test the command block one without the command block cuz its a bit complicated, just place a sand on the side of a tower and instantly press escape. there should be an outline on the block, as you havent given it enough time to become a falling block entity. now keep going in and out of stats menu. after doing this enough, the sand will no longer have an outline, meaning a few ticks passed, letting it become an entity.
    edit: it might seem like the item climbing ladder. was fixed, but it was not. simply break one of the pieces of the ladder, throw an item onto the top of that piece, and it shouldnt move at all. place the ladder back and run away, and it will climb the ladder.

    That's just not true. You can and always could. Minecart's hitbox sticks out by one pixel towards -Y even with ghast inside of it.

    Back when adventure maps were very popular I encountered the block breaking animation bug several times because at the time I didn’t know which tools broke which blocks for certain stuff like wool and leaves
    Also atleast twice when cheating in other people’s adventure maps 😶

    Its funny because I actually know about this bug 7:02 and this also happens in Bedrock edition. I only know because I've made some maps were you are in survival in one part and adventure in another.

    "This is marked as a bug even though code indicates that it may be intentional." I, the reason its marked as a bug, is because you have to soecify the type of report when making the report, its not officially marked as a bug.... The people who made the bug report marked it as a bug, if you mark something as a bug report on the forum, no matter what its gonna have that bug label on it.

    0:43 BE Flat early game here. Since it takes forever sometimes, to catch a god-rod, i throw with a lure line and pull with a luck one😏 Both are easily obtained within one night.

    The last one is the Super Secret Settings Feature. Some German BedWars players in 2017/2018 used is as a challenge, as there is one that makes your vision upside down.

    The tree one isnt a bug its a feature called grafting, they added it for parity with real life.

    The one where you can break a block in adventure, I actually knew about this because I was screwing around on my Minecraft server and I thought it was a bug with one of my plugins and never thought anything of it

    0:44 on bedrock, if u throw a hook at another playering holding a shield in off hand while crouching and holding a rod, it make you hook yourself if the hook bounces off the sheild and hits you. It looks like the other player is hooking you but if u activate a new rod, it pulls you toward them. I figured out how to make wireless, any distance triggering mechanisms if another player is afk in the statis area. Complicated to explain but cool.

    A similar bug to the water bug let you do some funny stuff with slime blocks where you could cross a one block gap and go up one block if you did it right, so I was able to make a makeshift staircase

    1:49 this bug has caught me many times. I close the door on acreeper, instead ofnit leaving it stay right at the door, go back afew block, and even though it shouldn't see me right there it explodes.

    The spectate shader comes from the super secret settings, which were an attempt at vanilla integrated shaders, and if you pressed f4 while a shader was active, it would disable the shader. I guess that it had the functionality of re-enabling the shader too, but since there was no way of selecting a specific shader that you wanted, pressing f4 again wouldn't know which shader to enable so it just doesn't

    I reported a bug in 2012 that's still active: if you rename a regular item in an anvil and place it in a dispenser, when the item is shot out it will lose it's name. Still get emails about my report pretty frequently. Apparently it's an NBT data bug they will just never solve

    7:27 sometimes when I am looking at my creative world in spectator mode, if I hit a block, it will release a particle of that block, but this does not always work

    Idk how old this bug is, but when I was playing Minecraft recently (Bedrock Edition) I noticed that when I would open the inventory it seemed to make the area I was in temporarily brighter until I closed the inventory screen

    The button mining, i dont know if the sword still breaks things a bit faster, but if it does, that could mine the button faster, because if any tool doesnt affect it, sword is a weapon, not a tool.

    Theres a marketplace clothing bug that has alot of reports, so you know when you get an achievement in minecraft bedrock you get xbox points and maybe clothes, when you try to equip it you cant it the equip button isnt availible it only shows view achievement the same if its locked.

    i feel like the one with adventure mode allowing you to "break" blocks visually has been known to many. i've known of it for a long time

    The beacon bug sounds like the beacon reapplies regeneration every 4 seconds - regen ticks down and heals at 2.5s remaining, 5s remaining, 7.5s... so if you reapply say, 7 second regen every 4 seconds, it'll only pass through the 5s threshold every 4 seconds and therefore heal once every 4 seconds

    5:25 you forgot Elder Guardians. I've tried it, and the only way to make them leave the minecart is by activation rail.
    Although I would not consider that a bug. I doubt they could leave a boat, either, and that one has no activation rail equivalent.

    For the dying entity thing I never thought that was a bug since the chunks were technically loaded in so your stuff would despawn

    The fishing rod bug is actually really helpful as it lets you cast with an enchanted rod but then switch to a weaker rod to take the damage when you reel it in

    easy explanation for the breaking blocks in survival and then switching to adventure is someone is doing an adventure map but was set to survival and punched a block noticed they were breaking it and switched to adventure but then were like ok am i really in adventure now? and punched the block again

    me and my brother used to dig to the edge of the nether (original xbox 360 edition), bult a minecart rail around the whole dimension, and for some reason we found the bug of smashing into the edge walls to be so funny

    I don't see how the tree type thing is a bug. Trees do that in real life to the point where there are trees that were cut down a long time ago but the top still exists latched on to another tree because they were parasitically connected to another tree while it was still alive.
    Granted, in real life it's generally not quite so visually odd (although there are people who actually make naturally grown furniture by taking advantage of such things) but it works from an imagination standpoint if nothing else and trying to do anything else with it would probably make forests look completely unnatural instead of just rarely kind of odd unless you go out of your way to make it happen.
    Of course beyond all of that since it shouldn't take priority, there are absolutely gameplay reasons that you want it to work that way.
    Fir example, I often mix wood types on custom or semi custom built trees and have taken advantage of this many times since you could strip the bark off.
    Not to mention for things like wood farms knowing what wood type is going to be there after growth may matter to you.
    And above all else, this matters for buildings as well. I don't know about you but sometimes I place and grow default trees near buildings if I just want a general foresty look and I would much rather that the wood in them not be replaced by the wood of the tree that just grew.

    I had a question I thought you might be able to solve; given that there’s a fixed number of seeds…do additional features in the game increase, decrease, or have no effect on seed diversity?
    For example, do more complex generation rules (new structures) create more similar seeds, or do the new features allow for more variety? Or maybe I’m just high and there’s no effect 😂

      I'm guessing no effect? Seeds are pretty much all exactly the same anyway (with a few exceptions of some bugged seeds). We tend to think of seeds as the small area around spawn, but at the scale of a whole world, they're all basically identical. Averaged out, every seed will have a nearly identical distribution of biomes, structures, and interesting terrain features. I guess you could argue that more features allows for more unique interactions between structures, but again, it's probably even between seeds.

      The amount has changed a few times, but it would only changes when the seed-interpreting code is changed, or the limitations on seeds are changed. The worlds you get in different versions are different than ones in other versions, if there is any generation changes in that update, but within each version, there is the same amount.

    And what about MC-122477? Its a very frustrating bug that happens on Linux computers. If you open chat, it will sometimes type it's hotkey in the chat. And will double type the / key if you press the slash to open command chat.

    I guarantee multiple people have discovered the adventure mode bug because someone switched them to adventure mode while they were trying to mine something they shouldn't on a friends only server
