notch first got the idea for his account dropping an apple from a player now I have forgotten their user name now but the same person gave the dev team the ideas for many things like names in chat having a different color and a lot having to do with servers they also held one of the first servers in the game that they programed into the game and many of the dev team played on the server most notably notch and Jeb the way they gave notch the idea for his account dropping an apple was because at the time there wasn't a guide to crafting so new players had a hard time with learning how to craft so they thought that it would be a good idea to make a guide to how to craft and get every item in the game that was possible to get at this time notch had made the item for apples but he didn't have a good way for them to drop so once they came to apples they made a little joke saying that the only way to get apples was by killing the player notch the later the also added a joke item into their guide which was the golden apple called at the time by this player the notch apple since in their guide it was only possible to get an apple through notch later both notch dropping the apple and the notch apple were added this player would later stop playing Minecraft after they got in an online fight with the dev team and now their is nearly no credit for this player and for what they have done aside from the smallest little note in the end credits of the game which I think ended up being removed I don't remember to much more on what happened back then but still that is the true history of the notch dropping an apple thing there is a video about the topic here is a link to a video that does a good job of explaining it th-cam.com/video/5e9rpsJPWTM/w-d-xo.html

Actually, players named Notch dropping an apple was a reference to a crafting list a friend of mine made waaaay back, where as a joke they said that you could craft a golden apple (which did not exist yet) using 8 gold ingots and an apple. As apples were not at that point accessible in normal gameplay, they also joked that you could get an apple by killing Notch. (Said friend *also* made one of the earliest mods for Minecraft back in Classic, some powerful third-party server software)

notch first got the idea for his account dropping an apple from a player now I have forgotten their user name now but the same person gave the dev team the ideas for many things like names in chat having a different color and a lot having to do with servers they also held one of the first servers in the game that they programed into the game and many of the dev team played on the server most notably notch and Jeb the way they gave notch the idea for his account dropping an apple was because at the time there wasn't a guide to crafting so new players had a hard time with learning how to craft so they thought that it would be a good idea to make a guide to how to craft and get every item in the game that was possible to get at this time notch had made the item for apples but he didn't have a good way for them to drop so once they came to apples they made a little joke saying that the only way to get apples was by killing the player notch the later the also added a joke item into their guide which was the golden apple called at the time by this player the notch apple since in their guide it was only possible to get an apple through notch later both notch dropping the apple and the notch apple were added this player would later stop playing Minecraft after they got in an online fight with the dev team and now their is nearly no credit for this player and for what they have done aside from the smallest little note in the end credits of the game which I think ended up being removed I don't remember to much more on what happened back then but still that is the true history of the notch dropping an apple thing there is a video about the topic here is a link to a video that does a good job of explaining it th-cam.com/video/5e9rpsJPWTM/w-d-xo.html
