My bengal kitten is in the process of learning that hands are not toys. He's so freaky smart. Just saying "easy" in a slow quiet voice causes him to downshift from bites to licking. I wish my miniature pinschers were so smart lol!!!

Thank you. I have to do the misdirection technique on my tabby. I mostly leave him alone (we’re both introverts), but sometimes when I wake up and he’s snuggled against me, I’ll reach down to pet him lightly, and he’ll treat me like prey (biting, clawing, bunny kicks).
Oh, I love your voice, btw.

So the thing is my cat bites me just because he wants attention (I think). I will be petting him and then walk away and he will start following me and biting my feet (pretty hard). He is my only cat who bites so hard that it makes me bleed a lot. I'm guessing it's because he wants to play or he just wants my full attention but idk if it could be something else. I try to distract him with toys but he is only interested in me. Sometimes it is hard for me to get away from him or even close a door on him. It's funny because he will be purring the whole time lmao. He is still a kitten but is already the size of most full grown cats. He is a pretty big cat and he will only get bigger. I just want to find out exactly why he is biting because it's not overstimulation. He is biting when I stop petting him and walk away. I just want to fix this before he gets bigger and even harder to fight off. Other than the biting he is such a sweet and loving baby and I just think he doesn't know of any other way to express his emotions.

If it makes you bleed that is too bad.
My cat bites for attention when it is time for food. Biting for love is nonsense. My cat is totally selfish. Does only what it wants. Bloody asylum seeker cat is running the show in my house

Dogs wag their tail = happy; cats wag their tail = WATCH OUT! I used an old mink fur piece to become a "dry kill"toy for my Norwegian Forest cat...she now carries it around the house if she is distressed when I'm not home: I will find it in the hallway waiting for me to return.. so sweet.

My first kitty is now15 mo. old & has been a biter all along (I didn't know about these wonderful cat care videos) & I've not been able to deter him. He gets irritated easily, & there is no tail twitching before the bite. I'm learning. He needs more play time, & when really riled up around play time, if I see an attack on me coming, I give him a soft chew toy to bite & kick, & that helps a lot. I just got a new baby kitten (7 wk.) & after a short introduction, they seem to get along, but now (10 days in) he is attacking her, biting & kicking her like a stuffed toy if I have not quickly intervened. I am really worried he will hurt her or kill her, but she wants to play so badly, she goes back for more (but cries out if hurt). I've yelled, hit him, & tried to shelter her, but they seem to be hell-bent on "playing" together. How do I stop him from being mean to her? I've had to remove her, lock her back in the bathroom (her original safe-place) for her own safety. They HAVE to get along; I don't want to get rid of either 1. I'm sure he is jealous, but he's still a kitten too, & wants to play. I've been dangling a string toy, 1 in each hand, so they each feel played with, but he wants more interaction, & will eventually just lie down & wait for her to tire of the toy so he can pounce on her. I've watched all your videos (all good info) but there's nothing about this interactive cat agression between older 1 & newcomer kitten problem.

Yep, you're correct. Unfortunately, my uncle fostered my kitten for 2.5 months and despite me begging him to play with my kitten with the many, many toys I brought, he thought it was cute to encourage him to bite and scratch and kick hands. The result is that now my cat has moved in with me and he's about 5 times bigger and he attacks me constantly. And he doesn't just nip, he clamps down his teeth. It's hell. I'm hoping I can train him out of this. I can't even lounge or lie down around him because he'll attack my face.

Ok, so, I have a cat, at the time of this writing, he's 16 months old. He is my baby. In terms of biting, he bites it incredibly lightly, and then licks my hand. Even when I rub his belly, which he loves, there will be times he wraps his front paws on my hand so I can't just pull it away, and sometimes even start bunny kicking my arm, except he doesn't shoot his claws out on me. If I want, all I have to do is use mild long strokes, and he immediately knows to stop and just relax. I am the only one who he does this with.
So, in your opinion, is this a real problem? So far, the only thing I can see it as a problem is, other people think they can do it, too, and he runs away from them when they try. He doesn't bite or scratch on really anything except the cat towers and whatever toy I use, and to be fair, he gets at least 3 hours of hard play each day, because his kitty reactor is always needing vented off. He is a very high energy cat.

My cat is a bit weird, he loves pets and obviously when overstimulated, I'll stop. However, it becomes his goal to continue biting even when leaving the room or trying to misdirect him with a toy. He will actively come to bite and continue to do so for 5-10mins then proceed to stop and sleep on me.

Or when I clip his nails, even though I have done this easily since he was tiny, without any trouble. Today he started slipping off my lap, so I reached to pull him up, and must have scared him because he bit very hard, twice. Hi! Thanks for your comment! I'd have something nearby like a stuffed animal or one of those kicker toys that I have in my video. If you see him getting overly aggressive - push the kicker toy towards him - they will generally start biting and kicking the toy.
It takes some time but it should be able to guide him in the right direction. The key is to always have something ready for them to bite.

    • @Anakinuk007
      @Anakinuk007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

You shouldn’t need to clip a cats nails, ever. If they have a scratching post/similar item or of course go outside they’ll take of their own nails. It’s pretty easy to cut in the wrong place causing pain or discomfort then cat will remember that.
If a cat is falling - let them fall. I’d imagine the sudden realisation of falling, and a sudden movement of a hand trying to grab them was a second shock so cat lashed out in that instant. Trying to catch a cat will usually end in you getting scratched up possibly quite deeply, cat may literally claw your arm or whatever to rebalance.. Cats are excellent at landing on their feet, if anything interrupted that fall cat may then actually land awkwardly and hurt themselves. Cats are pretty resilient it’s very unlikely they would hurt themselves unless from a 3 storey balcony.
Young cats especially don’t know the difference if laptop area is out of bounds. They want to play, and will be ‘lashing’ out playfully thinking that’s what you are doing, playing. Usually call them away from the spot and they’ll jump off, otherwise clap your hands and be stern if necessary. Post is old now lol hope all has worked out!

@@Anakinuk007 Cats nails do need to be trimmed! Just because they have a scratching post does not mean you don’t need to trim their nails. It is painful for cats if their nails are too long. I used to breed Siamese cats and that does not make me an expert, but I did learn a lot about these precious animals, cats. I learned it is a most humane thing to do. Talk to your vet about it if you don’t want to do it. It costs about $10. But you would be wise to learn as they really need trimming around every 2-3 weeks.

@@patriciavanhorn1853 - I’d have to disagree. Maybe this is true of indoor cats even with scratching posts etc, or of certain posher breeds like pure bred Siamese. Your average cat (which goes outdoors) unless elderly and likely sick too should be able to naturally file down their own claws without any intervention. Cats need those sharp claws for protection too. I appreciate some pets may need a helping hand now and then or even regularly, but most would not. Unless there is a specific problem of nails over growing causing discomfort it’s not something which should be done. I’d imagine there are plenty of vets and others saying otherwise - they want your business and to buy their products.

My cat bites me sometime for what I think is no reason. Then I thought, Maybe it's her way of telling me something hurts her. Since she is 11 years old, I'm thinking she could have arthritis. I started playing frequency music for her and it seems to pacify her and calm her down. You can find healing frequency music on you tube. It's free. Me and my cat love to listen to this therapeutic music. If you read the comments at the bottom of the video screen you'll discover which ones get the best reviews. I have found some work better than others. You'll know by your kitty's reaction which one works for him or her. Best of luck to you and your fur baby

My little treasure isn’t annoyed with me when he nips, he appears to be playing and enjoying himself. I do try to deflect this behaviour with a toy, but he’d much rather happily bite my hand. It’s as if he’s teething., and not malicious biting. He’s very much a high energy toddler who needs mummy’s attention most of the time. I have ‘toy stations’ dotted around so that I can easily get to his toys whatever I’m doing. He still likes to nibble . It’s ok when it’s me as I sow deflect attention, but I don’t want him nibbling my young grandchildren so am extra vigilant. Many hanks for posting this.

At this point I think you might have to completely change something to rewire his habits. Something I might do is:
If he's biting the foot/ankle region - wear something some indoor boots and spray something bitter so if he does bite down, it'll taste bad so he isn't encouraged to keep doing it.
If he's biting your leg - again think of a way to make it uncomfortable for him. Again, using bitter sprays would probably be helpful here - lather it on so he really hates the taste of biting anything on your body.
Also, carry one a kicker toy at all times around you (if you see he's about to pounce - grab the kicker toy and get his attention so he can grab it and bite it as much as he wants) and then you can continue on.
All of these items and more can be found here: monsieurtn.com/product-review/recommended-apartment-cat-products/#Cat_Behavior_Training_and_Correcting

      Hi! Thanks for your comment.
      1. Keep a toy in your pocket or somewhere close at all times. Give it to him when he starts biting.
      2. I would recommend no interaction with him directly with your hands or body until he starts relearning his habits
If he comes for pets/cuddles, keep the touching to a minimum and just quick touches. As time goes on, you can extend the time that you touch him and take notes to see what sets him off!
Keep it consistent - he'll likely mellow out around the 1-year mark! Good luck.

Habits are hard to break for cats and humans. So if you're trying to break a biting habit, it's going to be difficult. Instead, it's best to replace that biting habit with stuff she can bite. Have a variety of cat safe things she can bite in conjunction with a lot of interactive play time. As with anything, it's going to require a lot of consistency for habits to change! Good luck!

The kitten is likely hyper energetic. You'll have to keep something that they like to play with at all times. Also, another good way to prevent it is by using something bad tasting on your ankle. It teaches them that ankles don't taste good. The key is consistency! Pick one method and stick to it.

Why do people disturb sleeping pets? Wait till they wake up on their own... We got our Toyger at 1yr from the shelter and after 2mo working with him he still love bites but never uses his claws. From the 2nd week with Tiger I sat down and looked him in the eyes and laid down the law... yah right. But you have to back it up with actions, food/toys and holding'em... re-iterating not doing the unwanted behavior... Not hitting, spraying or pitching'em across the room. Hope this helps as well...

Have you tried having something in your pocket for them to bite at all times? I'm not kidding. Either a small ball, rolled up paper, or some catnipped stuffed fish toy. Whenever you see them approaching and ready to bite - throw it before they have a chance to do anything.

@@TheEldritchKnight1317 Sometimes if you leave toys out, cats get bored very quickly as kittens. Whenever they're finished with a certain toy - put it away - preferably inside a catnip bag to make it seem like its "new" again.
That said, if they really try to take a good bite out of your leg, rub something that don't like to taste or smells (there's bitter spray on amazon), citrus, spicy - basically something that is non-toxic and quite unpleasant for them so that they don't want anything to do with your leg. I will say a 7 year old cat is a tough one to explain this behavior. Take him to vet...maybe he is in pain or needs calming drugs prescribed by a professional.

Oh no! When these types of difficult situations arise. One way is to make biting your skin a bad experience for them. Getting one of those cat safe bitter sprays or another taste that they hate to put on your skin will dissuade them from doing it further.
Use that in conjunction with the strategies (+ a lot of playtime) is what I would recommend.

I give him a little push to make him stop and a loud no. but most of the time it has little effect. some times of the day it works. I'm thinking he is too agressive and I need to shoot him with a water gun when he bites and won't stop. most of the time he is good but he thinks biting is part of play. he is also bad about trying to play by reaching out and opening up a wound on our arms and we all have bloody scratches on our wrists and forearms. at these times we push him away and a loud no. he is slowly learning but we are very tired of the blood letting

    • @monsieurtn
      @monsieurtn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think it's time to make your arm to be an unpleasant place to touch/bite. If he is biting, getting a safe, bad tasting liquid and rubbing it on your skin will start to build the habit that "arms taste bad". Additionally, the same concept can be implemented for scratches too. Wrapping your arms in something cats hate to touch (usually sticky surfaces) will make the cats start to avoid interacting with your arm in that way. Thanks for your comment!
