- We'll walk 27 miles in the Cirque of the Towers Loop, camp in an ultralight way, scramble up Texas Pass, I'll go over 3 reasons of why/how to do this trip, and have deep gear thoughts about sleeping quilts.

I'm re-releasing this video because Google got ahold of it and fed it to people as a news feed story. That totally ruined the numbers, as THOUSANDS of people watched it for like 20 seconds. :)
I would like to know the real numbers associated with it. Feel free to watch the whole thing again! More to come this year, including Teton Crest and Rae Lakes.
Thanks for this, I hope you can continue making content like this. Your analytical and pragmatic approach to hiking without ego, which, at times, doesn’t conform to the prevailing trends has always being refreshing. UL just for bragging rights has, and always will be, simply dumb. Your dreamsleeper pillow recommended years ago really helped in making me more comfortable. I’m with you 100% with the quilts. Thanks
Thanks for the kind words!! I’ve got plans to continue!
Brilliant cinematography my friend, your shots and narration are flawless! Outstanding!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very relaxing and informative. I like the new formal.
Glad you like it!!!
Really enjoying your new format of "calm" hiking videos. I retired late in 2021, due to a buyout. I thru-hiked the CT in 2022. I live in the deep south but love the west, so I found a job working remotely that affords me to spend as much or little time as I want out west and the opportunity to hike and adventure. Anything is possible these days!
Wooooo have fun in them mountains!
Good on you getting your mind right and following your heart.
Follow it! Thanks
Love it. Keep it up.
We will!
This loop is on my list. Speaking of permits, a friend and I did the Four Pass Loop this summer. Oh, the elevation gain, but the permits were pretty easy to get, we ended up with more than we needed.
I tried Maroon Bells in the rainiest the locals had seen it in years. Not fun lol
Hey, Matt! So good to see and hear you!
I love this format. Nice combination of existence in nature and your valuable analysis.
If you only do one a year, an update to your gear list and your thoughts about itwould be wonderful.
If it's more than one, the occasional video like this or short one of your latest gear philosophy/item that caught your fancy would also be cool.
Glad you have successfully changed your work to provide the quality of life you need!
Still planning. Got Tetons coming out soon and then YEARLY GEAR VIDEO. lol
@@MattShafter Yay!!!! Thank you.
Hello Matt, I hope you continue to make your yearly gear list videos. I got a lot of good information from them.
I will work on it! Everyone wants it and admittedly, I do love thinking about gear systems.
Love the energy.
Hi!!!! Much appreciated my friend.
I’m a fan!
Thanks! More to come.
Matt, I wish that I had more time to hang out with you in the Tetons Matt!
We could have if some lady from Kansas didn’t roll her ankle! 🤩
Ok so you’ve peaked my curiosity with your channel. Like your common sense and logic thoughts on gear but sometimes my view may be different as I think our types of trips and campsite locations may differ which affects gear choice. Gear is very personal but I always learning to see what might suit my needs better. My setup has changed dramatically in the past 5 years based on experience… Keep’em coming!
Awesome, thank you!
You have a nice way with calming video. I like it, wife doesn't. To each their own. Good to see a different format.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this format.
Enjoyed the views. Interesting information and PoV about sleeping bags and quilts. I'm biased towards bags and I make mine. I start with a packable down throw - 60x70 inches and one pound. 700 FP down. I use synthetic insulation and reflective SOL blanket on the bottom and add down on the top. Also, put the zipper on top/center. Foot box is same as bottom - Climashield Apex. Total weight 26 to 29 ounces. Good to low 30F with Nemo Tensor pad and light base layer. Tom Loves DIY.
I’m pretty jealous that you can make sleeping bags! That’s too cool. Thank you!
@@MattShafter I can't stand restrictive mummy bags. Might save a couple ounces but they bind. Also, side zippers are dumb. I put them onthe center/top. It's not difficult. I have some how to vids on my channel.
Nice to have you back now and again. We all change and evolve... Do you remember or are you aware of the old North Face Blue Kazoo bag which was made of heavier materials (2.2 lbs total) but had no side baffle so you could shake the down between the top and bottom, adjusting the amount of top insulation?
Thanks friend! I'm not aware of that bag. Did the concept work well?
Yeah boyyyy
Old reliable you are
Did you fly to location. If so what airport did you use? Thanks
No. I had the summer off so I was sleeping in my Outback. I would fly into Jackson WY. There were alot of flights into there.
What bear canister is that? Couldn’t find it on your website or anywhere else from other TH-camrs or online
Bearikade scout. Pricey but it will last a lifetime!
If you watch closely you can see him leave his lid by the creek
Such a sad moment! LOL
How many times did you fart on this trip?
40 times. You should remember, I saved them all in an ultralight jar and gave them to you.
You either did a really good job of not filming other people or you went at the perfect time.
@@rschreck876 it’s the first! The parking lot was BAD but the trail was ok.
