Hi! Thanks for these videos. I have a subscription to MacProVideo, and am wondering what the differences are between your courses there and here. Took out the sub to learn Logic, but you're offering it free here. Not sure which course to start, and/or how t combine them.
      Thanks :)

I’ve spent the past 5 years with Logic and wondered what those vertical lines were…while at the same time wondering where my sustain pedal was being recorded to.
This is why I play guitar. Then again, I just learned you can automated pedals. You’re a genius. 😞🤯

I am a long time Pro Tools guy making the transition to Logic for MIDI purposes. This video helped me significantly. Very clear and to the point. Thanks.

Such a great help! Your explanations are clear and concise and spot-on as regards the information I'm after. I'm a Logic Pro novice who just found your channel and after one tutorial already feel my game has been enhanced five fold. Looking forward to more! Thank you!

Thank you for the clear explanations of how the concepts work and for explaining the keyboard shortcuts that do the same things as the mouse. Much appreciated by a blind, beginner producer.

Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without this Chanel. Quite possibly the best tutorial Chanel on ANY topic I have ever seen.
I work in television. They need to start making a category of awards for tutorial channels.
On an unrelated topic, I’ve been searching for great tutorials on Mainstage. Is this something you might do in the future?

Brilliant Josh, thanks for the great demo of comping MIDI takes. Sometimes when I feel like it, I switch to Score view ('N') and move the graphical pedal markings there instead. I love your tip on making sure the pedal is lifted after the chord is hit for a smoother performance.

This is so cool, it’s 22:43 here in the UK and I am so inspired by this video! So I think I’m gonna be up for quite some time trying all of this out, brilliant tuition, so well explained, you have to be the best Logic tutor around Josh, so thank you so much and keep them coming.

Apple needs to implement midi swipe comping.

Great instruction, thanks. I agree with another person here, Apple needs to implement MIDI swipe comping, and also the ability to LOCK audio and MIDI tracks together for simultaneous take comping (e.g. a drum kit recording that includes audio tracks plus drum triggered MIDI tracks).

Is there a way to mute the the sound of software instrument during recording only? While recording, I only want to hear the sound coming from my controller keyboard which I have monitored outside of Logic Pro. For playback, I want to hear the recorded track. Is there a way to do this without manually toggling the mute switch of that track? Thank you very much.

Thank you! What do you think about ‘Create new tracks’ when recording takes but its not actually a separate track, it’s just continuous audio. Whenever you mute/solo the single track you created, every related track is muting/soloing. any idea how to quickly turn them into a separate parts?
It is hard to explain, but try recording multiple takes with ‘Create new tracks’ as an option, and try to solo a single track. Can’t find something that explains it

    Hey Josh,
At the risk of looking dumb, I have a hard time with “Take Folders”. I’ve watched your video on audio takes and this one on MIDI takes.
I cannot figure out which take I’m listening to. And, when I use the marquee tool, am I adding or subtracting what I’m highlighting?
In this video just before you opened Piano Roll, you had two takes selected and then joined them. Forgive me but I’m lost.
(If anyone wants to snark at me, go ahead - I just don’t get it)
    Gianni❤

With Take folders, the very top "take" is actually the "active take" or the composite take. Everything below that are the individual takes. With audio it's a little easier to see; however, with MIDI you have to split the take folder, and then choose the take you want. The goal is to piece together the best parts of each take. Whatever is highlighted, is the take that is playing. However, when I flatten then, and join them, I lose the other takes. Here I want to do that because I want everything to be re-composited into a single MIDI region. Hope that helps!

Please please please do a tutorial on program change in logic. I always find this subject, a little confusing and I can really use your help with this. Thank you so much.❤

    • @MusicTechHelpGuy
      @MusicTechHelpGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

You won't really ever need to use a Program Change until you are using a hardware synth with program changes. It's not really necessarily if you're working completely in Logic. Although, I'll add it to the list of topics to cover, and I'll try to fit it in a video.

@@MusicTechHelpGuy I mainly use Program Change with Native Instruments Reaktor so I can automate a preset change on the fly. I still didn’t nail the best way to do it in Logic.

I wish it worked like the audio take folder easy selection and not manually cutting them. That's lame.
