So I get not wanting to be distracted by the lyrics but FAM is like a song about the members so like 8 verses and each one member sings about the next one in age order. This is one where the lyrics are kind of more important than the track if that makes sense.
I feel like most of these songs are enhanced by knowing the lyrics & stories behind them. I also understand the audio-only reactions but I feel like, especially with this album, the vocals, the lyricism & the storytelling are so very important.
@ Agreed. Audio only is fine but when you don’t know the language you’re doing disservice to yourself and the artist. You have to go that extra step otherwise it’s just sounds all around.
Fun fact about Maknae on Top - maknae is Korean for the youngest person in a group and Korean culture is really focused on seniority. But Chris and the members have kind of made it a point to say that I.N (the youngest) rules their group. And it’s even better because I.N is a super humble, down-to-earth guy so this whole over the top song about him being the boss is funny. Highly recommend watching the MV sometime, it’s a lot of fun
A fun little detail to add too: in Korean culture, the eldest at the table have to eat first before others can start. But in SKZ, they always let I.N take the first bite, which I find so endearing.
@@journalsandlettersI love this so much! They also let I.N go first and hold the award or whatever. It's so sweet and also based on their personalities could not be a better dynamic.
I never thought about it, but now that you say it, it all makes sense .... the songs i like from stray kids, they all have to be produced or arrenged by bang chan...
Han really likes ballads and tends to trend that way. Stays call it Han-pop and it tends to be more "striped-back"? And are usually some version of love song that is sad.(watches lots of anime and k-dramas)
Never, NEVER trust in "uplifting sound" in SKZ tracks. The more happy the song sounds, the more devastating the lyrics. Blind Spot, Silent Cry, Love Untold and many more can tell the story lol
I think somebody probably already mentioned this but, just in case, this album was not a normal album release, instead it was a "Christmas gift" (it was free) comprised of songs previously available only from the SKZ Replay section in the Stray Kids TH-cam channel. Since this album dropped all the members, especially Han, have posted many more songs which are, again, available in the SKZ Replay section in their TH-cam channel. We keep hoping for another gift from them. There are many gems casually dropped by them that are better (IMO) than many M/Vs released by other artists with much fanfare.
What I find the most interesting thing about Stray Kids music is that - and this is personal mind you, I'm not sure if others are like this too - they make you fall in love with it all, no matter the genre and no matter how long is takes. Like for me when I first heard God's Menu, DLMLU, Doddle or Mirror for example I was "No thank you, these aren't for me" but they stayed stuck in my head for days on afterwards until I gave in and listened to them again and again until I look back and think "How on earth did I *not* like this? It's amazing!"
Abso-frickin-lutely. If you don't dig a skz track, your best bet is to never listen to it again. By the fifth listen you are adding it to your playlist.😅 It is bloody magic.
The song "miss you" has a Korean title that translates to "little star." It's a song Hyunjin wrote about his dog that passed away. Little star is a reference to the dog but I think also to the fact that since he passed he was like a star in the heavens as well. Hyunjin wrote the song as a letter hoping it would reach one of the little stars he said. So I personally think that high pitched sound in the song is almost supposed to represent the stars. It has that ethereal and almost twinkling sound to it and makes me think of the stars when I hear it so possibly that was what they were going for with that sound...
the high pitch sound being a representive of the stars twinkling is such a beautiful way to think of it... imma do that now... coz I've been thinking it sounds like a heart monitor and that's just depressing af 😅
I thought that the sound was more like a small dog barking. I think kkomi was also a chihuahua right? don't they have like a high bitched little bark that could sound similar or maybe a whine? idk that's what the sound reminded me of
The beautiful thing about SKZ-Replay is that it is comprised of "passion projects" for the members. So the vocalists get to sing to their heart's content (so usually much more pop-py) and the rappers get to shine & flex. And, I feel we don't have to worry about group members feeling stifled and a talented group failing due to internal struggles. I love love that this is an option that they have available. And, I get it, regardless of how much a song does (or doesn't) appeal to you-- the production is just so very good. They never ever just phone it in.
21:18 😂 I immediately knew you'd love this one. Doodle is a masterpiece from 1 of the best producers, writers, and rappers in the the business, Mr Seo Chang-bin.
"Some time ago Han said something like "I'm really prideful and egoistic so I believed I was the best rapper in the group. But when Changbin wrote Streetlight I realised I am still no match for him." This is the highest praise you can get from Han and I fully agree, this song totally him me in the feels. And I think it just destroys all the people who are the type to help others but don't know how to ask for help"
If I’m having an off day I cannot listen to this song because it absolutely destroys me. It’s so beautiful and sad. This song also makes me want more solo Changbin music. Like all the others, he’s incredible.
Oh wow, okay so at 43:30 ish, you were talking about Run and you said, “Even though I was waiting the whole time for something crazy to happen… it didn’t happen.” And my mind is blown. Stick with me here, because going off lyrics, I think Run is about being so overcome with anxiety that you feel the need to just drop everything and run somewhere where you have no stress, and no worries. In a way, anxiety can feel like “waiting for something crazy to happen… but it doesn’t.” So already I think you nailed the vibe of the song. But on another level, the whole song talks about how much he wants to run away and be free. Again and again, he says he wants to run. Almost as if running away would be “something crazy” and he keeps “waiting for it to happen.” But the way I interpret the lyrics, he never actually does it. He wants to; he seems almost desperate to run away and be free, but like you said, “…it doesn’t happen.” Idk if this even makes sense.. lol I’ve always loved this song, and you just inadvertently helped it resonate even more with me. So thank you! And, as always, thanks for your awesome reactions!
i interpreted less as he wants to run away but never does, and more like he thinks he has to run away from some big bad thing that’s gonna happen but it never does. like how sometimes you get anxious and feel this impending doom for literally no reason. but i like your interpretation too
Thank you! I love your interpretation of the lyrics. I had panic attacks at one point, they would occur in the early hours of the morning, and the best way to describe them is I wanted to run outside so bad to get out of my own head/body. My endocrinologist said she had patients who had panic attacks in supermarkets and ran outside leaving their shopping trollies behind. I'm going to listen to Run again and see if I can connect to the lyrics on this level.
Yes, that feeling of having anxiety or panic attacks makes you feel like you want to run. To me the lack of release in the song emulates being on that treadmill but just keeping on running. Sometimes their songs just really emulate the feeling they are trying to convey so well. My son once commented in the car, when I was listening to "side effects", that it made his head hurt! If you know the song, that's literally the lyrics!... Genius song writers!!! That's the whole point! They are just amazing on so many levels!!
@@STAY.IKNOWYOUKNOWWEKNOW... oh I love that analogy! There’s like a thrumming undercurrent to the song. Very much like a treadmill! Energy that never goes anywhere, tension that’s never released. And you’re so right about their genius! All the tiny details they put in their music are so evocative. For instance, that bit at the end with the distorted voices kind of reminds me of when I have a panic attack. Sound gets fuzzy, blows out and distorts and then eventually snaps back into clarity. (Also, I have had almost the exact same conversation about Side Effects with my mom. Lol she was like “it hurts my head” I said, “YES! Exactly! You get it!”)
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this to you but a lot of the songs on this album which sound uplifting actually have really sad lyrics. It's this contrast that you have talked about on many videos which makes this album so special. Songs like Love Untold by Hyunjin, Run by Han, Hug Me by I.N have uplifting beats but the lyrics have a melancholic tone to it. It's supposed to make you feel confused about those tracks.
I always get whiplash from this album. It's basically one giant flex. The members spend the entire time showing off how versatile they are. They have so much range as group, but even more once you start breaking them down into units, duets, and solos. I never know what to expect when I'm listening to an album for the first time (or even a song, for that matter). Stray Kids are never boring or predictable. It's one of my favorite things about them. I'm so glad that you are enjoying your journey through their discography. Oh, and if you want to learn more about their production style, I would definitely recommend watching the intros videos for the albums and some of their behind the scenes studio content for 5-Star and ROCK-STAR.
Also the structure of the album is deliberate. For the first disc, FAM is an introduction to all 8 members followed by their individual solos and then ends with all 8 members singing a song dedicated to fans. This album was released as part of a benefit to fan membership. Another things fans had been wanting for years was the audio/streamable versions of SKZ RECORD and SKZ rRECORD ( which were TH-cam/video only for years) This is why it’s called REPLAY because it’s a marriage of the words RECORD and PLAYER. So a lot of these songs were only available on TH-cam and then they released them on Disc B
Deep End is my favourite song of this album… We never get to hear Felix’s voice often enough, so a whole song was like winning the lotto…Can’t wait for the release of his third solo song Unfair! 🫠
I think STAY love this album because it gives so many solo tracks from different members. With 8 members, it's rare to have just a full song for themselves. I would say this is more of a vocal album (even if they're rapping etc) since it lets the members themselves play around and just do what they want. Also, I GOT IT is a straight up banger haha. It's on my "angry", "work", "hype" and "household chores" playlist lol. The beat is repetitive, but it's hard not to just get lost in the flow of HANs rap. Plus the background story of why it was made just always makes me chuckle.
Lovestay is another one that the full impact is lost without the MV because it is a song for the fans and the MV is a compilation of them recording and important moments in their careers that they shared with the fans. 😭
I fondly remember seeing you do the Ate album and you seemed skeptical of how you’d react to K-pop (I was too). But Stray Kids are just so different and have such diversity I can’t believe that any person could not find a song they’d like. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us and especially for always being honest.
Fun fact about Zone: It was actually made and released in September, 2018. They just rerecorded it for the SKZ-REPLAY Album. Also Binnie's gritty voice in that song is my sole obsession!!
Best way to think about it is that like OT8 skz songs are like skz songs… Solo songs, pairs, and unit songs are very rarely typical skz songs. That’s where they experiment and try different things. Han is an excellent example of that. His solo discography is incredibly eclectic.
for the comment about “how can they make their usual music if according to these tracks this is what they really want to do, I could never fake it” I think they do genuinely enjoy their usual music which already covers many genres including more pop and ballad type of songs though they def have their preferences within that but for han specifically, whose song you said it about, he has said that he really enjoys all the hype rap and edm songs, it is what got him into kpop, but he personally listens to more sad melodic music so I think he more uses his solo songs to express that side of him even though most of his songs in their group discography are more hype
7:11 oh my sweet summer child, who buys cds anymore? After Taylor Swift, Stray Kids have sold the most physical albums in the USA in 2023, selling over 300k physical copies of Five Star. 2024 will be similar in stats as well. The kpop industry keeps the physical album business afloat.
My husband asked why I want their albums when I won’t listen to the CDs, I’ll listen to the music on a streaming app. I asked why he buys blu rays when he watches them on streaming services 😂😂 💁🏼♀️
I'll admit, rap tracks aren't my most listened to type of song. This is the first time I'm hearing Doodle with my big daddy ATH headphones. I think I nearly had a stroke. Holy cow, I'm lovin' it. 😂
Woke up to this. Scrolled the comments first and just about to start listening, but wanted to mention a couple of things I don’t think anyone else has. The name Skz replay is a mash up of Skz record (audio only) and Skz player (has video), which they have been using as an outlet for solo/unit projects for years. They rounded them up and put them all on one album, so it was never intended to have a curated theme or style, just to allow fans to have these songs on an album. I love that Skz get the chance to experiment with these kinds of projects. Most kpop artists have to depend on their companies to be able to do solo/unit projects. It also was a genius way to allow the less experienced members to try their hand at writing and composing.
The appreciation I have for Felix’s song Deep End is so so inexplicable. His vocal range and the layering of all of the different sounds his voice can produce. The lyrics are not necessarily what captivates me about this song…it’s more just the combinations that are used by mixing his different vocal tones and layering them all together, if that makes sense
Han has said in a live that he puts out so many different solo songs because he feels he hasn't found his own singing voice colour yet, and he uses these tracks as experiment tonhave feedback. When he posted one at the beginning of this year, he said he had another 19-ish ready to be put out...
1:39:33 I think the thing about skz fans loving all the changes and switch ups is that can also apply to the discography as a whole - it's a love of diversity as much as anything else. If an artist's music all sounds the same, why would I listen to more than a handful of songs, yunno? Like, sure, the crazy switchy hype songs scratch my brain like nothing else, but I also LOVE how every track has a different vibe and how truly massive the range is - from something like S-Class, which is like 9 hype songs in 1, to hate to admit, which is just one guy singing over mostly one piano note. My music taste is already pretty diverse and skz just keep adding more, I can't get enough of it :)
OMG, youve nailed it! SKZ is so meta, a true Mala Tang (hotpot) Genre. They switch up within songs and within albums. They also have nitty gritty details that always make their songs more refreshing after going back to them or just suddenly catching a tune in your fave looped song. They release a lot of language versions which also change how it's delivered. Theyve got rerecorded songs so the development of their vocals also changes the song. They make concert or performance renditions. With Stray Kids, there's always something new!
For the capitalization of the songs, my interpretation is this: i hate to admit - (I'm almost surprised it wasn't in a smaller font) it's the reluctance in typeface... to be uttered in the smallest voice, quietly to himself because of how painful the inciting incident was. I GOT IT - Bold and in your face, as Han meant for the track to be. I believe to emphasize the wordplay being used as well. The delivery of "I got it" sounds like the Korean word 아가리 "agari". Which is slang way to say "shut your fuckin' mouth" without direct profanity. Though it is very very rude, pseudo profane in Korean culture, because it is used to refer to an animal's mouth (dirty, unclean, foul), specifically not used for humans. Han wrote it as a diss track to industry nay-sayers and the lyrics basically say, "that's cool, I'm just over here carrying the industry/this group on my back with my skill, I don't need your recognition. I got it." hApPy- the main idea of the song is kinda, "so, are you happy now?" And it's not per se, a genuine question. It's a bittersweet reflection.
Close and Stars and Raindrops are my favs of the album, and Close is one of my top 5 of their whole discography. I'm not a pop person, I don't like that genre at all honestly but when I started to look into them, with time they started to make me appreciate those type of songs. It don't caught my attention outside skz yet, but when is about them I can appreciate and enjoy those songs hahaha probably(?) very biased yeah. I know what you mean when u say Close sounds magical, cuz it does to me too. Zone is a 3racha song from pre-debut :) a pretty old song. Fun fact: the part where Chan raps, the chorus, is in maori. I got It is a MASTERPIECE, but half of the fun are the lyrics which is full of puns. It's a diss track. Han is a genious. Streetlight and miss you are very personal songs for their respective authors. Changbin wrote Streetlight when feeling in a very low and dark place in his life, and Hyunjin wrote miss you for his childhood dog that passed away. Maknae on Top is a joke hahaha is a track made for the younger of the group (that's what maknae means :)) which is I.N, and the others on the track are Chan and Changbin. The MV is an in-joke full of references of their dinamics in the band xD When they do solo stuff, they do whatever they want. I mean, they normally do whatever they want regularly but especially when doing solo stuff. Han is the most versatile in my opinion, but they all have they're preferences of course. Maybe you can check Han's song "Maybe" and "Miserable" to see what I'm talking about. With this new comeback they'll release solo songs again, so is another great oportunity to hear what they all can do separately :) Thanks for the reaction and sorry for the long comment~
Did i just sit down for 2 hours and 43 minutes and 38 second just to see tony's reaction? YEES, YES I DID! ❤ This album is a masterpiece for stays, It carries a lot of meanings and feelings, perhaps it is not very loud like skz's other albums , but it remains one of the best albums in K-Pop in general ❤ Thank you for your reaction and your time tony and ollie is so cute i love it, iam it's fan for sure 🐩🐶
I think someone has mentioned this in your comments before? But in Ate era Chan mentioned that they literally tried to write a trendy style pop song, and they all kind of hated it (the song and the experience of writing it) because it just fundamentally wasnt Stray Kids. So I don't think they could ever release a full "western" pop album, they care way too much about their individual color and I love that honestly. I have a lot of pride that theyve achieved success without compromising their identity
50:55 Ludovico Einaudi mentioned!! I discovered him through the soundtrack for the movie The Intouchables and have been obsessed ever since. Una mattina is one of my play-on-repeat songs when I need to concentrate at work Also I cheered for Felix distracting you so much with his vocals that you didn't notice the background music because it's usually the other way around haha, go Lix!
I am still not through the video but before I forget what I want to say: 1. thanks for the reaction. 2. I listen to music in the car on my way to and from work (about 1h each way), so no headphone there. I also use head phones while working and seeing/listening to your reactions and all the sounds that you detect and point out still amaize me. And I am so thankful for that because it makes me discover the songs in a new way. 3. and most importantly: you will not find a stray kids album where all songs are not your thing. there will always be at least one song (but propably more) for you. I garanty you that. And even if I am wrong, we would still like to see that. please do not hasitate to upload it anyway. P.S. still hope you will listen to "just breathe" (SKY-HI ft. 3RACHA)
Tony, ZONE easily is one of my favorite songs. Interesting tidbit, at 1:14:47, Bang Chan sings a Maori War chant. He is a huge sports fan, and he shared that he was inspired by the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team pre-game ceremonials. Amazing how he adds such creative and unexpected elements into the music & it fits so well!
Maknae on Top reaction: "I love it!" five seconds in. YES. Maknae on Top is literally one of my top favorite SKz songs, and not just because of the SKz-meta theme of the song that puts I.N in charge of Chan and Changbin. It's SUCH a good song! So catchy! Followed up by the way my heart hurt that Alien didn't make it to your playlist! It's my second favorite Han song behind Volcano. But SUPER glad Drive made your playlist! Such a great song. And about DRIVING according to Chan. 😆
FAM is a roll call track... it's the boys sharing tidbits about each other via the song. The video is so funny, it is concert footage and they just play and mess with each other throughout the whole song. 😊
1:16:22 the person with the raspy demon voice like you said Wich is honestly the best description to his voice ever is Changbin, he's part of three racha and doodle and streetlight were his songs, but at the same time he's the one that sang because with Felix, his vocal and rap range is amazing
This album is so special to me. A lot of my favorite songs by them are their records or players that arent on an album, unless they release these special ones. Their musical creativity is so awe inspiring. As someone who is Changbin biased, I do tend to heavily favor his songs and also Han's songs. What I love about Doodle and the background sound is that a lot of people find Skz or Changbin himself abrasive and annoying, but as he says in the lyrics, he doesnt care and hes gonna do it his own way regardless. His flows and way of doing things are rough, but it's his own, and he will never not be himself even if you don't like it. Felix's song being so close sounding is purposeful. He really enjoys doing ASMR lives/sound clips for fans because he likes to use his voice in different ways. He wanted to make this song feel like an ASMR experience as well. Whats funny is I've only ever experienced the ASMR tingles from his voice lol. I dont know it just does something to me hahah. Deep end is so raw and I love it so much but it is a song I cant listen to often because of how intense it is. I do love that you are here for the music and for the most part I mostly just focus on that, but I do hope you try to read the translated lyrics occasionally because there is so much nuance that is missed by not having a basic understanding of the lyrics, especially for them. As someone said a lot of their songs lyrics betray how upbeat the music sounds. I love these Kids and I hope they keep making music for a long time.
Just for fun I suggest listening to some of Stray Kid's unofficially posted songs, they are only available on TH-cam. Specifically, Felix's live performance of "Rev It Up", it really showcases his deep (kinda scary) voice and it hypes you up, "Miserable (You & Me)" by Han which is pop but has a bunch of very interesting, weird sounds that you have never heard together before. Since you liked "Zone" and "I GOT IT", I recommend listening to more 3Racha songs that are from their pre-debut like "Runner's High" which is 4:26 minutes!, "Peer Pressure", "Matryoshka", "Scene Stealers" (this one is ANOTHER genre...JAZZ. It has what sounds like trumpets and other instruments, really interesting), and "Startline", there are TON of their songs out there but these were the ones on the top of my head. I will admit, the beats of their old stuff are not very complex and pretty repetitive but definitely not pop, I think you might like them. Your taste in music is top tier! I always look forward to hearing about the small things you catch while listening and they make me love and appreciate SKZ music even more! Been waiting to see you react to this album, so THANK YOU!! 😆
Regarding fans liking or not liking these more chill songs, for hardocre fans, we know the background of a lot of these songs. some of them have a backstory, some are "just" a display of someone's improvement in a certain skill, some are a fun cuddle to the fans, and for some we know that - despite what music skz make, these members really like this type of music, so when they release a solo, it's gonna be xy genre :D so even if we're not super into a song musically or lyrically, we'll appreciate the story behind it. Personally I also like the more "in your face" songs, but this week for example Limbo came up on my shuffle and suddenly I can't get enough of it, it's carried me through the start of the week :D
59:23 there's people who always wonder that and Stray Kids have said that they want to make music with their own sound even if it means not everyone would like it, they don't want to make music just for the sake of being more "liked" by everyone. Something that made me love their music was that exactly, their unique way of makin music and the diversity in every release, when they release a new album I'm always so excited to see what they are going to do and I'm NEVER disappointed
This album makes you happy, makes you sad, rips your heart out and serves it back to you on a platter then rounds it off with a lovely serving of ice-cream! 💝💝💝💝. It’s an emotional roller coaster 💝
I became a headphone fan as a kid. My parents didn’t like to hear my KISS albums and made me a “listening room” and got me some awesome Japanese Akai headphones. That was 45 years ago and music through headphones is still my favorite.
Another fun reaction, I think already enough people explained this was a special album, every song is more personal to the member and many are very Lyrics based anyway, I understand that SKZ is setting their Standards so high that a part inside us is scared of that feeling that the next album may not live to the hype or the expectations but, as I've been years already into this rollercoaster how I go through this is like, I don't expect I'm going to love every album more or the same than the one before, I go with the mentality that they love to explore music and I can't wait to see what's new on the next one, and maybe the next one they explore genres I totally won't like, and that's okay, I still can appreciate and look forward to that exploration, in fact is almost like a challenge. So basically every comeback I'm like "Let's what's new this time!" and not like "Let's see if it's as good or if I like it" Just think that when someone really explores that many genres it is meant that eventually you won't like something and that's fine, even if it's an entire album, so don't be scared. Also... Believe me... some surprising tracks are still waiting for you in older albums 👀👀👀👀 I actually was surprised, I thought you would like this one less than you did, cause I consider this album (generally speaking) to be very heavy lyrics based but I'm glad you found some songs.
I maybe have an answer to the question about the squeak in "miss you" - as someone else mentioned, the song is about Hyunjin's childhood dog who passed away. I believe it's supposed to be like the sound of a squeaky dog toy. The music video shows dream-like sequences of Hyunjin presumably playing with his dog (from the dog's POV).
For pure fun and catchiness, I don't think SKZ has ever surpassed Maknae on Top. I love all their pots and pans, but Maknae on Top is the most genuine fun.
Tony you're not alone! I also listen to music when I read. It helps me focus in on whatever I am reading, and sometimes I like to match what I am listening to to what I am reading.
im already laughing at your confusion at FAM's structure i like to tell people thats their sitcom theme. skz replay is a very dear album to the fans since it was the first time we got to see them as units/solos. Han's tracks are particularly beloved by the fandom since he has a very distinct style of music that leans into indie rock/shoegaze. SKZ HOP is coming on the 13th and it’s going to have a solo track for each member focusing on their own style that they've been live performing on their world tour. Hope you check that one out too when it comes
i think you should start checking out lyrics as a lot of these songs have really great meanings that can be lost if you don’t know what they’re saying. also, this album is more of a compilation of solos so it’s not necessarily supposed to have one theme/concept. thanks for the reaction ❤
Yes!! 100 percent agree; when he said he didn’t like Alien I was so sad 😢 Once you can understand the depth and meaning behind the songs in their lyrics your perspective definitely changes I think
I'm sure I will come back and add onto this later but I'm so glad you did this even though I knew quite a few tracks on here may not be your taste. The point of this request though was because you can't be a well rounded fan without hearing the individual tracks in my opinion. You had mentioned a lot in the first couple videos about trying to figure out who was singing or how many people there were. Obviously you have now, but also for me coming off a rock/ pop-punk background and this being my first Kpop group ever (so similar to you), I find it so intriguing how different they sound on their solo tracks. It also helped me figure out the group tracks quite a bit and appreciate their vocal range and styles with the different things they do and yet hearing their actual full blown singing in their solo tracks. For example LeeKnow in Limbo... its such a ballad and his falsetto is borderline angelic, but sometimes because he's a softer tone he gets lost in the sauce (not to say he doesn't also shine on some of them too). Same with members like Felix and Hyunjin. They get characterized parts in the group songs a lot of the time based on their "special skills" so when they get to do their own thing and do something different (and to their own tastes) I think it makes a big difference to the general opinion of them as a well rounded artist. I also typically think of this album as a 'compilation' more than a set album since these are primarily solo tracks or 'unit' tracks and everyone did their own thing and threw it together. (Also side note, I would highly recommend following experience this with listening to the new album next week and comparing the solos and their growth as an artist. There is a big change in confidence, skill, and style for some of the members for sure )
Back again, I wanted to chime in on the wearing headphones while you read thing. I do this. I also have to have music (or the TV) playing at almost all times to focus because sitting in the quiet is a no-no for me... I'm also super sensitive to odd sounds like you are in the music and also certain vocal tones (speaking or singing) can be super relaxing for me. My husband refers to it as me being Acoustic.
The best reactor thumbnail is HERE 🤣🤣🤣 OMG I CANT STOP LAUGHINGGGG At first, I was thinking "now which album is this thumbnail for:)" then read the caption🤣
Great reaction as usual. And I love Ludovico Einaudi as well! .....................You stopped a few times with a few songs wondering if the fandom liked certain slower songs given SKZ is known for their "mala taste" / "post n pans" style music. When you stopped during "I hate to Admit" and asked that question again, I had a thought. Sometimes for fandom (and I know it is for me), because I learn (before or after listening to a new song) the various back stories and read the lyrics, it makes the song meaningful. For example, Lonely Street is connected to support for mental health (The Blue Tree Foundation in Korea and The Blue Project Project in Australia) both through the lyrics and the MV. Han's Alien was very personal about his battles feeling like he didn't fit in. He recently released a new song called Human as an answer and update to Alien showing how much he has grown into who he is. For me the package (music, lyrics, MV) fleshes out my appreciation for the song. This may not be how every fan savours their music but it works for me.
i think skz-replay is the only album which is not typical skz album and i think stays would agree, bcs i remember Han once differentiated between his songs as Han from Stray Kids and his songs as Han himself
I really enjoy your reactions!!❤ Hans solo songs are my personal favs because they mostly have deep lyrics and are relatable! He writes about tough topics like mental health and heartbreak and allthough he is a fire rapper he serves incredible vocals!! I absolutely love his songs Alien, Volcano, 13 (i think 13 is only availible on youtube) and Hyunjins song Love untold, Lee knows song Limbo and more!!!
1:16:15 yessir! That is our Dark Rapper, Changbin coming in hot. He doesn't always bring it that harsh, but that's one of my favorite things about the range of his delivery. ❤️🔥
I love listening to “Wow” every once in a while. I think it’s so fun. I cant help but smile (and laugh). Plus, remembering a couple f times when 3Racha listened to it in Chan’s room and the absolute cringe they were feeling makes it even more fun. 😆
@@laurieannegagnon I used to feel that way, but now it’s a pure guilty pleasure song for me at this point. As a matter of fact I listened to it today because of this conversation, 😆 I think the beat is great and is such a bop. Then some of the English lyrics are just fun to sing along to when you’re in a silly mood. They were all so young when they made the song I can’t hold it against them . 😄
Honestly, before skz, you would not find songs like Love Untold in my playlist. But here's where my love for these guys comes in 😄 Sure, it's not my jjam, but it's a song by my Hyunjin, so I automatically love it
Thank you for reacting to this album. This is my my favorite of all their albums, if I can even say that since I love and appreciate almost everything I've listened to. It's hard to pick a favorite song off this album, but I will say that Miss You by Hyunjin resonates deeply with me because I've recently lost my furbaby. A lot of their songs are so deeply relatable, especially Han's music. Alien is soooo deep and relatable, at least for me. This is why I love these guys and their music.
This was the first album-release I experienced as a Stay ☺I couldn't believe how many tracks and how much variety it had. It really did feel like a present from SKZ. I stayed up way too late watching this reaction LOL so a bit too fried to formulate a proper comment, but thank you once again for an amazing reaction!
Fam was originally an introduction of members at a Japanese concert and each member wrote their own verse introducing the next member, the album track was reproduced in Korean as a prelude to this compilation type album because each track is performed and written/co-written by the individual member
yay ❤ this physical album is my prized possession haha. Thank you for all the time spent making these for us. ALSO 18:40 i finally got over ear headphones per your video suggestions, and holy shit. Life changing lmao 😂 I hope you watch lovestay and fam videos as well, i think you’d enjoy the lyrics and visuals :)
So I get not wanting to be distracted by the lyrics but FAM is like a song about the members so like 8 verses and each one member sings about the next one in age order. This is one where the lyrics are kind of more important than the track if that makes sense.
Agreed
Agreed. The music switches up depending on the member being rapped about. It is a clever intro for people who don’t know the individuals in the group.
Lyrics are so important on this album😂
Fun fact about Maknae on Top - maknae is Korean for the youngest person in a group and Korean culture is really focused on seniority. But Chris and the members have kind of made it a point to say that I.N (the youngest) rules their group. And it’s even better because I.N is a super humble, down-to-earth guy so this whole over the top song about him being the boss is funny. Highly recommend watching the MV sometime, it’s a lot of fun
The MV is so much fun 😂
A fun little detail to add too: in Korean culture, the eldest at the table have to eat first before others can start. But in SKZ, they always let I.N take the first bite, which I find so endearing.
@@journalsandlettersI love this so much! They also let I.N go first and hold the award or whatever. It's so sweet and also based on their personalities could not be a better dynamic.
@@lindhat yesss I remember when they won the VMAs and they let I.N hold the award 😭 it's really Maknae On Top for them.
YES YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY REACT TO MAKNAE ON TOP MV
And that Zone was a pre-SKZ banger that 3Racha put together as teens!
this thumbnail is legendary
hi gigi :3
@ cielito ! ! 🐛🐛🐛
You're definitely a Chan guy in your production preferences. You got good taste!
Both of your statements are true. 😊
REAL
I think somebody probably already mentioned this but, just in case, this album was not a normal album release, instead it was a "Christmas gift" (it was free) comprised of songs previously available only from the SKZ Replay section in the Stray Kids TH-cam channel.
Since this album dropped all the members, especially Han, have posted many more songs which are, again, available in the SKZ Replay section in their TH-cam channel. We keep hoping for another gift from them. There are many gems casually dropped by them that are better (IMO) than many M/Vs released by other artists with much fanfare.
'I hate to admit' is ALL Chan... written/composed/produced/arranged/piano/background vocals and anything else I've forgot ❤️
Just a little bow on top!! 🎀
Other Songs but same progress and conclusion 😂
Yes this happens to me a lot!
Yess this is exactly how I feel
Abso-frickin-lutely.
If you don't dig a skz track, your best bet is to never listen to it again. By the fifth listen you are adding it to your playlist.😅
It is bloody magic.
This is so real.
48:20 Felix, featuring Phelix, and F'lix... just a boy and his voices with a little piano for accompaniment. 😊
Deep End will forever be iconic... how one man can harmonise so well with just himself... and sound like a whole group 😂❤
Also heard it as Felix yongbok and bbokari lol
I think kkomi was also a chihuahua right? don't they have like a high bitched little bark that could sound similar or maybe a whine? idk that's what the sound reminded me of
oh i didn't scroll down enough! I'm glad someone else could explain little star, this is much better explanation lol!
Same way he said he thought he was good looking until he saw leeknow 😭😭 han is so funny
MAKNAE ON TOP! I really really want Tony to react to the mv for it😂
Right?? 😂
There would likely be so many "what is happening?!?!" comments from Tony. 😂😂😂
OMG YES PLS Tony do it 😂😂😂
I love when Ollie makes an appearance. He's beloved by many Stays
"Who buys CD's anymore".... All kpop stans laughing as they check their dwindling bank accounts.
He wants to; he seems almost desperate to run away and be free, but like you said, “…it doesn’t happen.”
Idk if this even makes sense.. lol I’ve always loved this song, and you just inadvertently helped it resonate even more with me. So thank you! And, as always, thanks for your awesome reactions!
Thank you for the details. I like the challenge of trying to figure out the song without lyrics. It's cool when it kind of works.
i interpreted less as he wants to run away but never does, and more like he thinks he has to run away from some big bad thing that’s gonna happen but it never does. like how sometimes you get anxious and feel this impending doom for literally no reason. but i like your interpretation too
You just blew my mind with the name of the album! Thank you!
It’s all Felix, (Deep End)
Yeah, I'm not sure Tony realized that. Deep End is much more impressive when you realize Felix sang everything himself. Just amazing!
I didn't know that and you are correct.
FELIX range is so incredible. There is not a song out there like this. Just holding your breath as you listen.
Deep End is my favourite song of this album… We never get to hear Felix’s voice often enough, so a whole song was like winning the lotto…Can’t wait for the release of his third solo song Unfair! 🫠
Streetlight's lyrics are heartbreaking, Changbin wrote about his dark days when he was really low😢
The mv for lovestay always makes me tear up 🥺 I’m so incredibly proud of them
I fondly remember seeing you do the Ate album and you seemed skeptical of how you’d react to K-pop (I was too).
His solo discography is incredibly eclectic.
for the comment about “how can they make their usual music if according to these tracks this is what they really want to do, I could never fake it” I think they do genuinely enjoy their usual music which already covers many genres including more pop and ballad type of songs though they def have their preferences within that but for han specifically, whose song you said it about, he has said that he really enjoys all the hype rap and edm songs, it is what got him into kpop, but he personally listens to more sad melodic music so I think he more uses his solo songs to express that side of him even though most of his songs in their group discography are more hype
sorry for the essay lol he talked on it in his lee mujin episode
The pianist on deep end is the one who plays for the current tour!!
I literally laughed out loud when he said this. 😂😂😂
I collect all their albums 😭
My husband asked why I want their albums when I won’t listen to the CDs, I’ll listen to the music on a streaming app. I asked why he buys blu rays when he watches them on streaming services 😂😂 💁🏼♀️
@@rachelk7148 Nosy me want to know what was his answer ?
@@971djem “okay” and kept on moving 😂😂😂
And that he scrapped about 30 😢
1:39:33 I think the thing about skz fans loving all the changes and switch ups is that can also apply to the discography as a whole - it's a love of diversity as much as anything else.
Exactly. They cover so many genres and have such a huge variety, there is a song for every mood.
Yes! Variety, and great quality sound, that’s it.
For the capitalization of the songs, my interpretation is this:
i hate to admit - (I'm almost surprised it wasn't in a smaller font) it's the reluctance in typeface... to be uttered in the smallest voice, quietly to himself because of how painful the inciting incident was.
I got it."
hApPy- the main idea of the song is kinda, "so, are you happy now?" And it's not per se, a genuine question.
The MV is an in-joke full of references of their dinamics in the band xD
When they do solo stuff, they do whatever they want.
This album is a masterpiece for stays, It carries a lot of meanings and feelings, perhaps it is not very loud like skz's other albums , but it remains one of the best albums in K-Pop in general ❤
Thank you for your reaction and your time tony and ollie is so cute i love it, iam it's fan for sure 🐩🐶
FAM is that one song where the lyrics are important. Fully recommended to watch their korean version MV with lyrics
50:55 Ludovico Einaudi mentioned!! I discovered him through the soundtrack for the movie The Intouchables and have been obsessed ever since. Una mattina is one of my play-on-repeat songs when I need to concentrate at work
Also I cheered for Felix distracting you so much with his vocals that you didn't notice the background music because it's usually the other way around haha, go Lix!
I am still not through the video but before I forget what I want to say:
1. thanks for the reaction.
Fam is an intro track to each member, talking about each member one at a time and each member getting a verse. Super fun in concert
THE TITLE IDEAS I CANT
My boy’s spittin' facts he’s locked and loaded
pa pa pa
And they have never stopped. 😊
the titles in the description, omg LOL, the creativity!!
#6- the only therapy i can afford 😂
💝💝💝💝. It’s an emotional roller coaster 💝
phew 3 hr tony skz therapy is exactly what I needed today thank you!!
So basically every comeback I'm like "Let's what's new this time!" and not like "Let's see if it's as good or if I like it"
Just think that when someone really explores that many genres it is meant that eventually you won't like something and that's fine, even if it's an entire album, so don't be scared. Also... Believe me... some surprising tracks are still waiting for you in older albums 👀👀👀👀
I actually was surprised, I thought you would like this one less than you did, cause I consider this album (generally speaking) to be very heavy lyrics based but I'm glad you found some songs.
Also, Drive is totally about driving....nothing else.....
Fits with the one about traffic lights and obsession. 😏
i think you should start checking out lyrics as a lot of these songs have really great meanings that can be lost if you don’t know what they’re saying. also, this album is more of a compilation of solos so it’s not necessarily supposed to have one theme/concept. thanks for the reaction ❤
The best reactor thumbnail is HERE 🤣🤣🤣
OMG I CANT STOP LAUGHINGGGG
At first, I was thinking "now which album is this thumbnail for:)" then read the caption🤣
Music is just the vehicle I use to make people laugh. Glad you enjoyed 😊
You putting FAM on your Work playlist feels very right to me. I do my taxes to this album every year, its really good for productive focusing for me
1:16:37 that’s just Changbin’s voice. Although he doesn’t really use as much of a raspy voice now, he used to sound WAYYYY raspier like that
you need to check the lyrics to Streetlight, its such a beautiful song
i clicked on this link but the title really made me wonder if i clicked on the right one 😭
@@ilycea LOL
In fairness, nobody should click that thumbnail. Certainly nobody *wants* to click on those types of thumbnails.
LMFAOOOO RIGHT ILYCEA the options in the descriptions i was cryign
Han's solo songs are lovingly called 'Han-pop' because he just deserves his own genre
Couldn’t have said it better. He does.
Fam introduces each band member! If you aren’t looking at lyrics it can seem random and same-y.
This album is not typical for K-pop and SKZ. These are their personal wishes in music. And this is very valuable for Stay.
I agree with the comments. #LoveStay definitely better with the MV. I recommend watching it with the MV for sure.
Miss you is actually about Hyunjin's dog, who passed away.
1:16:15 yessir! That is our Dark Rapper, Changbin coming in hot. He doesn't always bring it that harsh, but that's one of my favorite things about the range of his delivery. ❤️🔥
Yes! I love them all from the loudest and noisy beats to the slowest and most relaxed ones. Every Stray Kids album is an amazing experience.
I'd be curious to see you react to old 3racha songs. Maybe not Wow lol but some of them are good. Like Matryoshka, Pace, Runner's high, Nxt 2 u...
I love listening to “Wow” every once in a while. I think it’s so fun. I cant help but smile (and laugh). Plus, remembering a couple f times when 3Racha listened to it in Chan’s room and the absolute cringe they were feeling makes it even more fun. 😆
@@Lyric113idk it's funny but way over my cringe limit xD the "wooow she's hot" I can't deal 😂
As soon as I heard Doodle I was like this is the shit and never stopped listening to it since lol.
Honestly, before skz, you would not find songs like Love Untold in my playlist. But here's where my love for these guys comes in 😄 Sure, it's not my jjam, but it's a song by my Hyunjin, so I automatically love it
1:54:22 you are SO not alone in this, i believe there must be more of us in the noise cancellation + music while reading gang!!
I do this all the time!
11:33 this is killing me bc fam is often used as background instrumental for fan content
This video was so unexpected but i love it! The thumbnail is so funny- its accurate though
SKZ-REPLAY REACTION!!!
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO!!!
This album will always and forever be my favorite!!!
the title ideas are cracking me up, i almost didn't know if it was actually your video i was clicking on lmfaoo
This was the first album-release I experienced as a Stay ☺I couldn't believe how many tracks and how much variety it had. It really did feel like a present from SKZ.
I stayed up way too late watching this reaction LOL so a bit too fried to formulate a proper comment, but thank you once again for an amazing reaction!
thank you so much for reacting to the whole thing! It is such a great album to learn more about each member individually!
Fam was originally an introduction of members at a Japanese concert and each member wrote their own verse introducing the next member, the album track was reproduced in Korean as a prelude to this compilation type album because each track is performed and written/co-written by the individual member
yes i loved RUN, I like that its simple and it sounds beautiful!!! it remind me of wind chimes
yay ❤ this physical album is my prized possession haha. Thank you for all the time spent making these for us. ALSO 18:40 i finally got over ear headphones per your video suggestions, and holy shit. Life changing lmao 😂 I hope you watch lovestay and fam videos as well, i think you’d enjoy the lyrics and visuals :)
I love watching the vibe shift with the solo songs! Your appreciation for even the music you don't prefer is why I keep watching you!
IDK if it'll make sense to anyone else, but RUN to me is a night driving song. It just has that feel to it. One of my favourites by far.
Everytime I watch one of your videos I think "I wish I could watch you interview them about every album"
