    When you say Gujjar Bakarwal is a loyal Indian community.. does that mean they don't act as guides for terrorists crossing border? Whatever happened was wrong and unacceptable and shouldn't have happened but the Army doesn't beat up random people.. these are thick jungle you cannot possibly cross over and set up an ambush without local help and it's important to find out who are these people who are selling their imaan for few extra bucks

    Absolutely brilliant piece after a long time. I was already disappointed the way we were losing so many brave souls day after day to these ambushes. When I heard of the civilian killings it added insult to injury. I stopped following the news at all (not that the mainstream media has tried to cover even a bit of it). It seemed as if the armed forces did finally buckle under the pressure. However, if the central government has stepped in to put things in order it shows the actual honest intent this government and the PM has to make things better.

      Army must have had a very good reason for interrogating those particular people so harshly. Most probably, the armymen sensed their involvement or at least their closeness to those who were involved. They definitely doesn't wanted to kill them, but it happens sometimes during severe interrogations. Especially, when the security of the nation and brave soldiers is at stake.

    Advanced interrogation techniques have been used for decades. Someone in close confidence told me nearly 20 years ago about the usage of chili powder by Indian military against terrorists during interrogation. However, it has been found that these methods end up creating more terrorists than they bust. You know where else chili powder is used? In terrorist training camps. Both as a metaphor to rile people against the Indian state but also to train them to sustain such interrogation techniques. I think it's time Indian military should move on from these ancient methods and use methods that don't harm the individual physically. Lately, the security establishment in India seems to have been committing blunders in the name of dare. The recent outing of the "use of whatsapp for clandestine operations" was another example.

      They need to learn from the west and stop using these ancient techniques. It is classic USA mistake in it's 2000-2010 after 9/11. Although USA did improve and they started hiring Military Psychologists to aid in interrogations which ultimately proved successful. India sadly doesn't have the infrastructure or employment opportunities for military psychologists, heck we don't even have psychologists in the army, we have psychiatrists. What a joke.

    Its dangerous to alienate the Gujjar-Bakarwals, who have supported the army and even supported and participated in army's operations and especially operation Sarp Vinash to flush out the terrorists from the Rajouri-Poonch area. The area had been quite for a decade and a half or so, but its seeing some problems now. Indeed something is amiss in the sector. While the government works on stabilising Kashmir, Jammu and the middle J&K areas must not be left behind. Possibly this will focus government's efforts on the area.

      Wt soldiers did was wrong. Posting soldiers to control insurgency in a Muslim majority border area is wrong. Value of a soldier’s life shud also be given priority. A plebiscite shud be held n Kashmir valley n other adjoining Muslim majority areas shud be made an Autonomous region. All non Muslims shud be asked to leave that region. Local police shud be responsible for law n order. Army shud only take care of borders. Now that we have seen multiple examples that Muslim majorities leads to sepratism (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kashmir), therefore voting rights of Muslims in rest of India shud be taken away. This is a solution with 0 violence from state.

    • @kalabhussain
      @kalabhussain 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vikmvc2446 with due respect, your statement reveals your genuine sentiments as human with a little revision as under:
      # Creation of Bangladesh was assisted by India by all means possible.
      #Creation of Pakistan was a mutual agreement between jinnah, Ghandi and then occupied British rullers .
      #Kashmir Plebiscite is also a Mutual agreement penned by Indian authorities in the United Nations.
      So, hope being in the shoes of a local resident here in Kashmir (without any religious discrimination) , if you turn the pages of history you will find only oppression by all means, to which recent civilian killings are an example.
      Every oppression here is analogous and equally brutal to what British army did to India in their tenure.

    It seems the most recent brutal attack on our soldiers followed by shooting and spreading the video of civilians has more to do with the elections in J&K rather than just a Pak sponsored terrorism. One can easily guess who all are behind this. Unfortunately the people of J&K doesn't realise who are their real enemies.

    Beheading and mutilation of the body of a soldier who died fighting, by the terrorists is the lowest form of humanity and combat ethics (if, mometarily one believes in the jihadi ideology as combat !) . The Army suffered it ! The villagers who sheltered the terrorists to achieve this, when put thru the same rigmarole (however condemnable), results in the slap of the face of Army. Why ? Electoral gains and Political goals ! Is there no other means to setle the issue ? Have grassroot grievances been addressed by the Govt ? Will only an electoral majority grant the ppl with what they desire and deserve, as a condition ? Forget last 70 years, surely last 9 years was gud enuf time to atleast initiate some relief measures for these residents of Rajouri - Poonch - Reasi belt to strat belueving in the govt efforts and alienate the terrorist fraternity.
    Did the Def Min go to meet the families of the slain soldier also or he has done the job by meeting the civilian NOK only ? Is is equality by the Govt and by the Def Min for his troops ? Scapegoat .... Army and its ranks ! Pat on the Back .... to the Govt !
    Shekhar ji .... great analysis and presentation. But you ignored the viewpoints and shackled status of the security forces .... for the balanced views, as expected from you and your stature ! Maybe, next time !
