    Amazing, Giant Bull Moose Fighting
    We have been fortunate enough to film a few moose fights, but this one is the longest yet. There are three angles working here; the two of us (Team MooseMan,) Rick and I, aa well as a beautiful sequence courtesy of Michael Mauro of Wild and Exposed podcasts. (Also Truth and Legend Productions).He and Rick were filming from one location, I was farther away (filming another bull as he crossed the creek. That video later.)
    Standing on the other side of a babbling creek, (the prevalent audio) we caught this amazing fight from three different angles, sewn together here as one cohesive video. As you can see these bulls covered a lot of territory in their five minute struggle. They really get pushing each other around and you can see them gouge at each other; the fur really flies here
    Other bulls nearby are somewhat curious about the action, but lose interest quickly. Same with the cows. And that's who this is all about/for!
    We hope you enjoy and please subscribe for more moose (and other wildlife) videos.
    Thanks for watching our channel, the husband/wife team of Rick and Libby Libbey, (Libby squared), New Hampshire wildlife photographers (and part time Alaska.)

      @@randomvielleuse527 You seem to have a grasp; the weather, the terrain, the physical work to hike in and find these animals, read their temperament, work around them and get the shots, is a lot of work. But since we're passionate about wildlife, we see it almost as play! Thanks again!

    Was working on a Northern Alberta pipeline in the early 90's. My day started earlier than most, as I drove our technician to the job site, he was from Alabama. Never in my life have I ever seen someone so excited, we were 200 feet away and watched it eat for 10 minutes. I'll never forget what he said, "they's so ugly, they's beautiful" !

    Amazing videography!
    Would the name 'Left Hook' mean something to you? Just wondering.
    What many may not realize, is how difficult 'getting around' in that kind of terrain is for humans. That makes this footage all the more impressive. That takes some dedication.

      Yes, the name does mean something to us. (:>) Rick named him. You are so right, and obviously familiar with trekking through the woody willows and spongy tundra with pockets of deeper recesses that are boggy/wet. Not easy keeping up with the moose. Thanks for your comments. Have we met out and about?

      We have never seen a fight where a bull was injured beyond a lameness that healed. Or an eye injury. Of course it happens, it did this year with Grumpy and another bull (lots of videos here about that) but that was a freak thing. They don't aim to kill each other, it's a matter of one crying Uncle and spinning away. We have never seen a loser being chased off, either. There seems to be a code of ethics. In many ways they are better behaved than humans. Especially given this happens just once a year for them! Ours is a bloodthirsty society. Theirs is not.

    Quick question are they fighting over a mate or what's the deal here?
    I also was wondering why they fight so hard with each other and they Go as long as they possibly can.
    What is the punishment for losing the fight?
    Are they kicked out of the herd or do they have to lose territory or Is it just for a mate?

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions, VDC. They are fighting over mating rights. They are not herd animals and so the bulls must seek out cows. When two of them find each other in the company of a cow, they tend to fight for dominance. We have several fight videos here. They fight until one simply calls it quits. It's not a fight to the death by any means. So the fights are as long as they are stubborn, basically. When they do spin out of the fight, they are not chased. They have lost, and that's just understood. BUT, since it's ultimately up to the cows who they mate with, even a loser can get lucky. (If you'll pardon the pun.) Thanks for watching, and for the questions!

      He's striking with age; he is the older bull, with a wider rack. He loses a lot of weight during the rut usually and this year went in looking thin. We hope he's around next year.

    i would like to see a slo-motion eye-poking avoidance , and how heated of a fight will cause the "rules" to change----if they battled to permanently maim their own species , they would not fare well?

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bulls rarely fight to the death; the point is to back down and live to see another day, more cows are out there somewhere, right? There are those who didn't read the manual, and then of course accidents (slips/falls/lockups) happen and can run from minor injury to death. Boys will be boys after all.. And the strong survive, or so the saying goes. Thanks for watching. .
