  • Judith Chamberlin responds to question of "What is Recovery?" She describes how the concept developed within the consumer/survivor movement, some of the changes which occurred over time. She comments on the consensus statement and ten elements of recovery as published by SAMHSA. Dr. Farkas develops the theme of "What is a Recovery Oriented Program?" with some of the essential ingredients, common research themes and key studies illustrating that recovery is possible and more than just symptom reduction. She highlights some of the qualitative studies that have added to the knowledge base about recovery. She comments on the vision of an integrated system and the important values that would underline such a system.

She starts sounding just like a clinician around 14:00. What a shame.

It is a problem when you try to work collaboratively with the existing mental health system. She was so abused by the system herself in the 1960s, but she was trying to make it clear to other survivors that their anger will be more damaging than helpful with these Government agencies. She died I think around 2006, and evidently in the next few years Samhsa went all out against the Psychiatric Survivors with the formula described by Hitler in his book "Mein Kamf" about imperceptibly taking away/eroding or masking denial of rights to the extent that people do not even notice what has been done to them. I just read an article by Judi's friend and former husband Ted Chabasinski. His article appears to have been written around the time 2012 that this video was released but Judi had been deceased a few years. He wrote of Samhsa , with nothing good to say about it. He noted their evil, but the article was very controlled and presented peacefully as Judi is trying to do here. You may be aware that Ted Chabasinski being an Attorney sued the chemical company that made Zyprexa, on Judi's behalf posthumously in a wrongful death action that obviously the drug was responsible, and Ted did prevail against them to the best of my understanding. I attended the 2018 Alternatives Conference in Washington that was hosted that year by Dan Fisher and Oryx Cohen both Psychiatric Survivors. Dan, however, became a Psychiatrist after his breakdown in the 1970s, and then was employed by Samhsa during the 1980s and maybe early 90s. At the 2018 Conference it became obvious of how the Federal and cooperative State Govts had pulled every dirty trick imaginable, and of course had used Samhsa extensively to turn everything back around against the labeled mentally ill/Psychiatric Survivor movement. One whole day was devoted to going to the offices of Congresspersons representing the districts where the individuals were from. And obviously they were all waiting there for them with a patronizing attitude etc........ They are only human egotistically showing off their power over others, but Jesus Christ can be seen behind them if not in them saying: "Do not be afraid of those who can kill the body and do no more........"
