I have the same generator for our cabin that's off grid and it has been a pain going outside early morning or late at night to start it up or shut it off. I got this kit and installed it in and was intimidated a little at first too, but the install was super easy and the video instructions left nothing to question! I like your setup! Keep on keep in' on!
Sweet setup. I'd have to say out of all the "van lifestyle" people I follow, your setup is by far the best. You literally have everything you need and continue to find ways to add more comfort, convenience or make it cheaper and longer lasting. Plus we can hang, have a smoke together and just fucking enjoy life. Keep rollin and try not to lose any more teeth in the process.
Somebody sent me the link to this video because I am right where you were back then, LOL. But I’m buying a new Yamaha 3000 boost. I have a rear rack but I really wanted a way to box it in and put it on an external tank for longer run time and I’ll be adding the remote start to it also. And for some reason I haven’t seen this video so I am super glad to run across it. I hope it worked out for ya
Wow, very cool! I'd love to have a remote start like that! I actually clicked the link and watched the entire hour and a half video. Very interesting. It was probably one of the best "how to" videos I have ever seen for any type of install. I was surprised that he didn't actually start the generator at the end of the video, but he did show during the installation that it worked. Makes me want to get an electric start generator now lol!
Was a really good vid, and would have been hell without it, but he did leave out the part that I needed a 14 Inch #2 Phillips to get the fuel shut of valve off, and in the middle of doing it I found out that the longest one I had with about a 10' reach wasn't long enough. Wasn't like I could just leave everything laying there and go find one! Thank god I ran all the fuel out before I started, and even though it was a pain in the ass, I was just able to take the cock valve off the under side of the tank, and it gave me enough play to pull the control panel out to work behind it.. but shit its always something....lol... all in all it went smooth, and so far works great!!! Thank you Gregg !!!
Yeah me too... remember when I was ready to buy the Yamaha? Well im glad I waited, because since then the coolest stuff was made for the Honda, and it it the quietest.... Thank you RC !!
You ever have a problem with the berg 111 . I mean over fuelling a never stop pumping because my is new ,and allways over full I don't know what to do eny recommendations
Nice setup. I doubt you will have any electrical needs after this setup. This is a necessity in Florida not a luxury if you are boondocking. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone with the EU3000 just for the electric start if anything. Thanks for making this video.
Ingenius....The product companies should be hooking you up for endorsing them. Next tie the new main 10 gal tank to your old 6 gal reserve tank and go all month w/o refueling.
my bad. i was trying to get u 16 gallons up front but how can gas get from the reserve 6 gallon into the 10 gallon main tank or to the siphone pump? maybe have a (2 hose in 1 hose out valve to choose which tank to suck from. or maybe just the 10 is ok by itself. tell svetlana sometimes if i get a earache or clogging i use peroxide in my earache twice a day ear tilted to bowl up the peroxide let sizzle for 2 minutes then lean over a towel and let er drain. dont cram q tips into ears EVER. just the outer part this helps infections. do research first. sometimes i have to go into clinic and get hot water pressure flushed. :)
I'm not really understanding that oil line is going to the gas cap...Crankcase vacuum for safety? Also, if you stick the generator on the front bumper I always thought trucks and vans could get better mileage if they had a slanted air dam in front of the bumper like on top of semi roofs to flow the air up and over but that might make the van running too hot. Remember the dodge super bird?
the oil line create a siphon so the gas can travel against gravity and into the genny fuel cell. see? the air dam would be ugly like those nissan van that are duckbilled. plus he never leaves town unless he flies so mpg is least of the rollers worries.
Borga Nailed it on how it works..... Now the box im getting is almost the same shape as the front of the van, and I don't think it will effect the cooling, but that I have thought about, and its the only thing that im worried about.... Now with that said, if I do have any issues with that I will simply move it to the rear, and it will still look better than what I have. I haven't traveled much this year, but I do plan to start again soon, and im getting it all set up to do that, and pull the trailer. As far as millage, I get 13ish now, and not the least bit worried if I get less if I can have the comfort...
Umm, Yea...I was looking at all those lines and thinking what is all that crap.....lol I work with Vacuum stuff a lot since I'm into old Mercedes diesel's. :)
You could have gotten a Fuel pump off a Craftsman riding mower for $40 hooked to a vacuum line off the carburetor to your red boat tank and bypassed the factory tank altogether. 15min and done. i used one of those on my semi for years to run my rooftop air never even put gas in the factory tank ..3gal would last like 12 hours on a 90deg day. i had a 8gal boat tank like yours that would last days.
You can get vacuum that way , there is a port on the side of carb for testing you can get the fitting at the small engine shop or Flebay ($2) i cant believe someone even markets that set up you have ..Talk about over thinking it.
DW Red well to be fair about it, although it is pricey. With this thing you can run both tanks empty with a fuel pump you can only run one tank at a time, so I am running 13 and 1/2 gallons without touching anything. I know it doesn't sound like much but it does make a big difference to me. But like I was saying earlier I am going to try the fuel pump deal when I get around to installing it I do have all the parts....
HI, Howie! Well, I got so needy for a "Howie-fix" that when I found this on my recommended list, I clicked on it. I was surprised to see I hadn't already read it, but did remember the remote start. I clicked "like" on everything, because so many viewers left comments for you and you replied. Didn't understand more than every 20th comment, but I remembered when you put the shiny, new cover on your stuff on the front of your van and I did understand that. Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for any "future/past" videos I haven't seen, or even some I HAVE seen just to get that Howie-fix. Looking great in the video. Still out here with the rest of your fans, loyal always. Take care. :0) Donna B.
Ya know I have been kickin that around, and I may do it someday. It is a great idea!! Also, I agree the Amsoil is great oil, but I'm a die-hard Mobile 1 guy!!! Jim thank you!!
Hey there, not to many video’s on this beauty’s.I installed mine(3000eu) in my 58 foot boat, did everything they told me not to do,I closed space and all.i Made a exhaust to the outside and added a 44 gallon fuel tank with a regulator (that wasn’t needed) and a pulse pump.lets not forget the gas dune detector.all that about 13 years ago(would have to check the log)It’s runs everyday sins then for about 7-12 hours a day.i know it sims impossible but it’s the truth.I was having valve problem a year ago and was going to buy a new one...the dealer I use said to me to try a engine cleaner over night first.so I did,I use power run mercury engine ceaner(probably any cleaner would work)Well dam it’s working like new again.I never adjusted the valves, maybe I should.I ran the pulse pump direct to the carb and ran the over flow to the fuel tank just in case(the generator is on top of the fuel tank)Now your remote is super interesting,a step so close to be able to remote start from my I phone.with the remote camera and sound I could see what’s happening on my boat while I starts this thing.I live at anchor mostly remote area so when I go to town it’s for a few days.
I could not afford a 8000 $ diesel at the time,so 2400 for this baby seems reasonable and I thought what the hell if I have to change it every 2-4 years....,13 years later it’s just like the first day. Best thing I ever did
Subbed and great idea. Here in So FLA it's been raining every day for a week and afraid to turn on computer. So I wanted to buy and run a Honda EU2800i when storms come and not worry about it for hours. Will this work on any model or just the 3000?
As far as I know, there isn't an option for a remote start 0r the extended fuel for the EU2800i, but this might work... www.genxdirect.com/generator-brands/generac/generac-gp6500/ipi-bergs-1-extended-run-fuel-system-tank-included-part-hnd1-7000is/ If not contact them and ask, can't hurt. Now with that said there are ways to build your own gravity fed external tank or make a lawn mower vacuum fuel pump work.... If there's a will there is a way!! ..... Hope this helps, good luck! Welcome to the channel, thank you Trav!!
I'm in love..... with yer gen case that is ;) That is an awesome set up Howie Roll. I sure do like the idea of having the fuel tank fit inside the carrier. And the housing, Damn ! Love it ! Thanks for sharing this video, damn good job... Thumbs up, ya have new sub... Have to ad, I have the same Generator.
Ohhhhh I thought about tappin the gas tank, but I want it to be able to move from front to back, and maybe a class C in my future.... Yeah this remote is awesome!!! Thank you Larry!!
I like the idea of a remote start but you can not leave the generator switch on without running for more than a couple of days as the battery will go flat.
My remote start battery will easily last more than a few days. The idea here is, you are using the generator everyday day or other days. The generator will add a little bit of charge to the battery to make up for the always on remote circuit. And in a situation where you don't use the generator for 2 weeks, you would be smart enough to flip the off switch. Its real simple.
If I may suggest, having a 10 gallons of gasoline hanging off your front bumper is not a good idea. 1 gallon of gasoline vapor has the explosive equivalent of 14 sticks of dynamite. In the event of a collision strong enough to rupture the tank, one little spark ann there is going to be a big fire! Relocate the tank inboard so it will be protected brom rupture. Thats very cool, so without the outboard gas tank how long will it run with the fuel tank on the generator itself?? Thanks for sharing, I'm learning about these generators for doing a step van camper conversion down the road.
I'm about 45 minutes north of New Orleans, it maybe cooled off a little more by then, I think end of this week we're suppose to have a slight cool front come through. I'm ready for shorts all winter hahaha
Howie Roll I figured that since I'm gonna drop the gas tank to clean it that I might as well install a New fuel pump too. Figured at that time that I'd install a siphon 12" X 1/4" stainless steel nipple rod which then converts to a quality rubber fuel line per other youtube videos I've seen so far.
you can tap the vans gas tank and attach a y connector , then run one fuel line to the front and one to the rear , put a on/ off valve at the end of each hose , lets say your running the generator up by the front bumper , turn on the valve by front bumper and the valve by the rear bumper you leave off , if running the generator by the rear bumper you just do the opposite , valve by the rear bumper turn on and front valve off , if you remove both generators just turn both valves off. i dont know if a Ford fuel pump is plastic but on my Chevy the fuel pump is plastic , i removed the plastic chevy fuel pump and drilled a hole in it and then i stuffed a 3/16" hose thru that hole , fuel hose goes about 9 inches into the tank .the 3/16 inch fuel line is about 13 feet long and goes to a Honda 2000i genset. let me know if you want pictures. Awesome , That remote start is trick.
you could ditch that gas can and extend the fuel hose to your vans gas tank.
Ohhhhh I thought about tappin the gas tank, but I want it to be able to move from front to back, and maybe a class C in my future.... Yeah this remote is awesome!!! Thank you Larry!!
My uncle made an external tank from an old motor cycle tank.

I like the idea of a remote start but you can not leave the generator switch on without running for more than a couple of days as the battery will go flat.
Actually that's not really the case, I think I would have went as long as a month-and-a-half without firing it with the switch on. No problems!
Charge it from the generator.

Where did you get the extended fuel tank kit?
If I may suggest, having a 10 gallons of gasoline hanging off your front bumper is not a good idea. 1 gallon of gasoline vapor has the explosive equivalent of 14 sticks of dynamite.
In the event of a collision strong enough to rupture the tank, one little spark ann there is going to be a big fire!
Relocate the tank inboard so it will be protected brom rupture.

I loved my Pinto!!

Gotcha yeah here in Louisiana and you mentioned Florida yes hotter then hell. Still not bad though

I'm wondering if there's a way to run this genny off my Rv gas tank.
I have been kicking that around, and the short answer is that there is no easy way. I will let you know if I figure it out...
Howie Roll
I figured that since I'm gonna drop the gas tank to clean it that I might as well install a New fuel pump too. Figured at that time that I'd install a siphon 12" X 1/4" stainless steel nipple rod which then converts to a quality rubber fuel line per other youtube videos I've seen so far.
you can tap the vans gas tank and attach a y connector , then run one fuel line to the front and one to the rear , put a on/ off valve at the end of each hose , lets say your running the generator up by the front bumper , turn on the valve by front bumper and the valve by the rear bumper you leave off , if running the generator by the rear bumper you just do the opposite , valve by the rear bumper turn on and front valve off , if you remove both generators just turn both valves off.
i dont know if a Ford fuel pump is plastic but on my Chevy the fuel pump is plastic , i removed the plastic chevy fuel pump and
drilled a hole in it and then i stuffed a 3/16" hose thru that hole , fuel hose goes about 9 inches into the tank .the 3/16 inch fuel line is about 13 feet long and goes to a Honda 2000i genset.
let me know if you want pictures.
Do you know where i can get a electronically controlled actuator that i can control my choke with?
thanks
That sounds awesome, and something ill kick around, it really would be great to have it hooked up that way.... I never really looked at how the 2000i is set up, or the room you have in there, but I think you could make something work.. perhaps a R/C car steering servo, and linkage ?????
