"Useless" is a bit harsh. They have all recieved about three months of basic infantry training prior to starting the drilling practice. Also worth noting that the general "quality" of the soilders serving in the drill platoon is alot higher then most of the other Norwegian conscript units.

The US Navy SEALS train with the Norwegian Marine Commandoes to be better prepared for warfare in extreme climates and so on. This is a branch of the Norwegian army called the King's Guard, which guards the King and his family of course, and has a exhibition company which consists of two music platoons and one drill platoon.
You are right, this song was used in the WWI and then turned into the anthem of the White army, which lost against the Red Army. Later the song was used in the soviet movie Letyat zhuravli(nice movie btw), and later the Alexandrov Ensemble started to play it and was included to their repertory. To finish I want to say that I am communist but I have to admit that this song is so beautiful. :)
"Russia will never have as good soldiers who will fight with as much heart as norwegians" I'd agree with that entirely. Other good soldiers include the British (especially Marines, SAS and Ghurkas), the Israelis, most Scandinavian countries and of course, the Ukrainians ;) You should see the Zaporizhian Cossacks marching; it's freakin' scary, but nice to know that they're protecting us from Russia!

Не ,, русского" , а ПРУССКОГО ( ГЕРМАНСКОГО) строевого шага. Именно пруссаки (немцы) муштровали царскую ,,инфантерию" .
