  • Hello my friends! It's me. I filmed another care tips video all about my Prayer Plant / Red Maranta! It was 100 degrees in my apartment while filming so forgive my inevitable sweatiness.
    This plant ended up being a lot easier than I thought, not nearly as finicky as I'd heard they can be. But who knows, you might kill it instantly... and if that happens - oh well. It happens... A LOT. Don't fret.
    Anyway, I hope this video helps you in your plant journey! Let's try and not kill plants together.

    one of the office i call on at work has this plant on a 4' x 4' table in the center of the lobby . it is huge it hangs of all 4 side of the table . i had never sen this plant before and asked all the people in the office what it was and who takes care of it . they told me none of them know what it is and that the cleaning lady that works overnight brought it in and cares for it.
    so i searched for the name of it and then found this video . i am 53 and only recently got into house plants , though i have had planted aquariums for years .
    anyway i'll stop rambling and just say i subscribed . and your delivery and sense of humor are awesome.

    just one thing, boiling the water will actually increase the concentration of minerals in it as the minerals dont evaporate. you'd be much better off with tap water

    That one entered my humble abode the other day. :3 been caring for a green variety of the plant (not the lime one, the simpler one, looks like a ladybug xD).
    I had my ups and downs with it. But yeah! great tips there! Just, ive heard that boiling water in an attempts to get the Chlorine and other minerals out is not recommended. As i understood, boiling just evaporates the clean water molecules into steam, and leaves in your boiling pot less water and therefore greater concentration of those minerals you want to get rid of xD... And distilled water comes from condensing that steam water molecules back into liquid. So thats the purest water. Letting water sit is much better than boiling it. But ive opted for a filter jug. Britta or something like that. Works fine for now, even on calatheas.
    I like your videos! Your vids are fun and informative as well to watch! Keep up the good work! :3

      Thank you so much for watching!! I’m so glad the video was helpful in some way, that’s the main goal here haha 😆 - but yesss I’ve also heard the boiling trick isn’t always recommend! I love that you’re bringing up that point. It’s weird because it seems to work for me after letting it cool down but I think everyone has different luck depending on their tap water?! I think the main takeaway is definitely let the water sit out for 24 hours and that’s been keeping my leaves looking real fresh lol :) I hope you continue to have good luck with your plant and keep me posted!

      @@Macksimize100 Well, maybe tap water in my area is not as pure as one would expect. Had some leaf browning on that green marantha i mentioned. But yeah, soon i learned the trick and informed myself. :3 Have a nice evening!

    I know it sounds simple... but how do you bottom water?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Haha I understand the confusion, I should make a video on how to do it! But in a lil nut shell - you fill a large pot with water (ideally water that’s been sitting out for 24 hours to clear out the minerals tap water carries) and set your plant in there for 30 minutes or until the soil is completely soaked through ! Really only works for smaller plants since larger plants are extremely heavy sometimes lol

    • @patriciodavidillanes6449
      @patriciodavidillanes6449 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Macksimize100 so it soaks through the drainage hole?

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes exactly! Forgot to mention that. So always ensure your pots have drainage holes, the water will soak through those into the soil. Usually I keep my plants in their plastic nursery pots I bought them in and put them in a cuter cover pot which makes bottom watering easier

  • @illyriaa

    I originally had this baby hanging in my window but now I'm thinking that's too much light. Will she be okay across the room about 8 feet? I do have 3 windows in my room with lots of light

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh yes she might be able to handle being right next to the window especially if it's east-facing, just keep an eye and see if the leaves start wilting or look sun burnt, then definitely take her back a notch - I think she'll be happy 8 feet away too especially if you have multiple windows ! 😊 Hope that helps!

    Yes! been growing mine for over two yrs now and they tend to sleep at night (tortido kekeke) and awake during the day when it likes to take mist from my zero water filtered spray bottle :) just re-potted mine because it out grew the pot it came in.. was wondering.. I noticed 2 separate stem bundles sprouting leaves but connected by one large root underneath, is it ok to cut it and pot them separately? It did also offspring a separate third root system and is a baby so I potted that one in a different container already.

    • @Macksimize100
      @Macksimize100  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah you can definitely separate them! Just be careful not to injure the roots TOO much, it’s a delicate dance when separating a plant from a central root system but can be done :)

    • @kangjhha
      @kangjhha 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Macksimize100 GOD dang it, so I put the baby in a small pot kept inside, the other two decided not to cut the root and propagated them together to a larger pot but put them outside my back porch.. thought it would be ok but when I went to check on them in a few days they were all widdeley shrunken and near death! I didn't think the nights here(so cali) would affect them too much but I was so wrong, there so damn sensitive.. I am nursing them daily back to health now, I hope they can make it, it looks like they have 50/50 chance but seem to be doing a tiny bit better day by day.
