Bought an nc1 turbo with 270 whp a month and a half ago to replace my na Miata best decision I’ve made drove it 2k miles already. The turbo kit has been on 20k miles already with no issues nc is the way

Everyone says the NC is fat and slow, yet they are consistently the fastest of all the Miata generations in timed track events. It shares a platform with the RX8, and doesn’t have a rotary, it’s perfect.

In 2020, I was looking for an NC PRHT Club. They dried up over night around May/June. I found an ND Club for 16k, and decided to go for it because it was only a few grand more than the NC Clubs were at the time. They were around $11k-13k, with lower mileage examples around $15k.
You guys weren't wrong about having to go get a loan. I wanted an ND miata so bad and when I nearly had the money for the down payment the market shot up for them and I couldn't afford one. I ended up with the other car I was wanting which was local being a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport.
It’s insane to me how crazy Miata prices have become in the last two years. I’ve seen 1992 beater NA Miata’s going for $12,000. I’ve seen hard top NC’s going for $18,000. What the fuck is going on? It must be inflation, which is insane. I bought my inline 4 Z3 for $4k in 2016 with 80k miles. Somehow this little summabitch is now worth $6200 with 170k miles. Jesus Christ, kids use to race and mod Civics in my day that they bought with their hard earned Subway tips. Fancy kids would buy Scion’s and drop them. High school kids in 2023 will be applying for loans and getting 27% APR just to buy a base model Hyundai Elentra.
those things are aweeeeeesome. had a fusion 2.5 swaped one that had 260hp NA, that things was a canyon monster, sold it when i moved to the netherlands, those 2.5's are way undertuned from factory, mine had ITB's and it was a canyon bitch, but 220hp is easily made with cams and exhaust. for NA in a NC 220hp is a blast already, plus NC's made 160hp in the engine, more like 125 to the wheels, so 188 to the wheels is a big improvement, more like 60hp other than 20hp. Fusion engines are the best, you can trash them and a new engine is 300 bucks, saw a 2.5 NC turbo in florida once that was over 400whp with ease. so the swap now is a must on that platform, specially since is almost plug and play.
190tq to the wheels bone stock and it uses the same trans cam and ecu as the miata and focus motors out there with a good compression ratio to do pretty much whatever. Its only 20 more hp but you have 190tq at 2kRPM so you can get a lot more out of gears and modulate on low speed corners. 2.5L is a big jump in displacement. with a BSD, rods, pistons and full boltons its prolly good for like 300h/250t on e85 if you have good motor mounts and trans mounts sorted. Its also a 400 dollar motor which is a big help. What I dont understand is why people love the BP so much. A turbo BP miata makes the same power as a 2.5 sauced a bit but ends up being less reliable and requires more mods. 2.5 gives you the displacement and air flow that you will never get with smaller engines.
I realize this video is 11 months old, but here’s a take: the NC is “big” but it’s a reliable sports car. The auto in the NC isn’t that bad (but do get the manual if you can!). These are affordable enthusiast cars, and with a few mods, you can hit your local track and have a blast doing laps. The NC is the Miata you can daily without punishment. The NA and NB can be tougher to daily - I’ve had 4 over the last 16 years (NA and NB), but I can’t daily it anymore. The NC is comfortable enough to daily. And the PRHT is a great option if you like hard tops but hate having to store one or getting help putting it on/off.
I think I'm going to wind up with these. Maybe a nice winter project would be finding a dead one and 2.5 swapping it. I'm selling my NB but really do like Miatas, I just want something that feels a bit more modern.

Edit: Also, just in advance for anyone thinking I’m biased, or that I own an NC, I’m not, and I don’t I’d love to, but unfortunately I don’t fit in either the S2000 or the NC 😭😭😭 Also also just to clarify, by minor modifications I mean suspension, tires, exhaust and intake, and tune… These engines (the revised ones seen in the NC2s and 3s) are way WAY more tunable than people think, BBR in England has a number of kits out, some with forced induction some without, their “Super 225” setup has ITBS, cams and a tune, and it makes 225hp and revs to about 8k rpm… Obviously those aren’t exactly “minor” modifications, but as an example of what’s possible with these cars BBR does some fantastic work!
The NC in the U.K. is the WORST for rust …. The NB like to rust out their front chassis legs … the NC like to rust EVERYTHING . They didn’t even paint behind the bumper brackets or properly protect the subframes We also got a factory turbo NA . It was in celebration of the leman win called (you guessed it) the leman 😅 only 25 made and painted in the renkown 787b colour scheme I’ve had na’s for like 12 years . My imports fully forged and 300bhp ish . They are a lot of fun

Dang, if you could still do that today I'd probably have a Miata by now. Wouldn't even care if it wasn't the "best model," I'd love to get my hands on something that _isn't FWD._ That's just not an option until at least double my price range.

Hey car feeders, I've been miata (window) shopping for about 3 months now and selling prices going into the winter are dropping to around $5.5k as a safe average, with many going lower. I'm assuming this is because I'm in new england and the winter is coming... But im so here to take advantage 🙌
