A couple years ago I went to a Bach concert in San Francisco. I turned around and there sitting in the balcony was Ton Koopman! During intermission I went up and got his autograph. I am sorry to say that I was too flustered to tell him how much I appreciate all the wonderful recordings he has given us. Maybe next time.
Totally fascinating. If this video was emotional for me, I cannot begin to imagine how Ton Koopman must’ve felt the first time he saw actual Bach autographs. Even though this is only on film, it is a great experience. Many, many thanks.
Grazie, Maestro Koopman! I was three times in Leipzig. The first time in 1985, for the 300th year of J.S.Bach's birth. The second and third time in recent years. In december 2015 I listened to the Thomaner singing Weihnachtsoratorium in the Thomaskirche. I hope to come again here in Leipzig.
To all future visitors to Leipzig ... 04:57 If you walk along this street, you will come to the Old Bach Monument, which was donated by Mendelssohn. de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Altes_Bach-Denkmal_in_Leipzig.JPG
I was born on the same day as Mendelssohn which excites me due to him being a big part to Bach's re-rise to the music world. Bach has always been my favourite (considering this is coming from a 15 year old girl) and yet however im not amazing on the piano i always love playing Bach. I've always had a fondness of Organs aswell so maybe i should consider learning the organ however i am to scared and believe i am not talented enough to. I wouldn't even know who to ask. But maybe if i were to wish for something it would for me to become an organist to some decent level. To play Bach in all glory and to keep his music flowing through history. :)
I just started practicing the piano at 24. Whenever I think I might not talented enough, I just think "idk how much talent I have, but I have enough to learn this one passage", or something like that. Basically, you just learn stuff one by one and maybe you'll go a little faster or slower than other people, but does that really matter? If you love music and the piano it will be fulfilling regardless of how fast you go. :)
From Germany living in the US near Washington D.C. Took the bus to work this morning listening to Bach on my iphone. The Bus driver asked me what I was listening too. I replied Bach. He said: "who is that". I almost fell on the floor.
That Koopman fellow is a deva (as the Hindus understand the term). Back in my hippie days, I would have said that he is *really* stoned, on a natural high--all accomplished by natural talent elaborated by sheer dedication and intense concentration.
Listening to Ton Koopman with great intent! Great video! The captions for this video are in English but it is written Dutch instead when you go to the captions section. You should correct it because it is misleading.
It's very odd how the Dutch language (to my English-speaking ears) is very easy to understand, but it is impossible for me to speak... I can read a Dutch newspaper and understand it in my head; but, if I were to read it aloud, my Dutch friends would die from laughter because of my silly English accent... Every Dutch person I've ever met has pretty much told me, "pleezh, doon't froestrate yoorself by trijing to shpeeck oor laanguage; yoe will never ghet it korrekt, and we don't mijnd speeking toe yoe in yoer oon language."

Excellent documentary. What a treat to have Koopman as your tour guide.

Excellent! Ton Koopman is legendary. I am very jealous of Melchior's personal tour and organ concert.

This is lovely. Thanks for making this available publicly. And to Koopman -- rest more so that you MAY play till 100!

You must be very old then.
@@MrRonny411,
about 210 y, as of 2019 ?
Bach: "The greatest man of all musical history."
Bach è il mio secondo Padre 😊❤
I went here last year. It’s normal to cry as a musician, right?
If you have a soul, you cannot help but being moved by Bach and a great maestro.

damn
How sick.
Bach the greatest.
Mr. Koopman is the great genius of the Baroque music in this modern time. He is the closest to Bach. Congratulation for this video.
No he isn't
Thank you for sharing.

Watching critically indeed! A lot of pressure in this particular church.

Dislocated a finger playing Bach!! That’s badass.
That's what happens when you hack every note into the keyboard.
😄😄😄 Wonderful stuff, Bach and Koopman. TY Chaps.

21:35 wow what an amazing organist
That Koopman fellow is a deva (as the Hindus understand the term). Back in my hippie days, I would have said that he is *really* stoned, on a natural high--all accomplished by natural talent elaborated by sheer dedication and intense concentration.
Of course, that he takes Bach as a model can only exalt his innate talent.
What's the music from the heavenly soundings in about 37:25?
Hello
Someone could tell me what is the name of the first piece of music that is heard
Is beautiful
Cantata "Alles nur nach Gottes Willen", BWV 72
Listening to Ton Koopman with great intent! Great video!

Heerlijk
And which one is in the very begginning, who happens to be knowing?
Very good informed and intelligent musician, what I never appreciate is he playing bach much to fast.
but what is the injury on Mr. Koopman's right hand @ 9:40 - 9:42 ?
Maybe he's in a fight club?
The first rule....
Please could we have English subtitles? Thanks.
Done!
Thank you very much! So great to appreciate Ton Koopman and of course, the master, Bach.
@@vrijegeluiden Thank you indeed!

Étienne de Massy Subtitels are availeble... You can enable these in the settings of this video
Very nice documentary! I would translate it into Serbian, for my pupils, but I do not know how to put subtitles. If you can help, I would be grateful.

Would Bach have approved a stained glass window of himself in a church?
22:41 bwv 639
Woah...so, Bach would've beaten the piss out of me if he heard me make a mistake playing one of his fugues.
OMG, I wish there is English caption for the English speaking world.
+ksh7011 But there is! just click cc in the right corner...
I dislocated my ears listening to Bach.
Please add subtitles in english or at least german
Done!
Many Thanks for the subtitels!

A one hour show with zero subtitles. Ugh. Wasted opportunity.
But there are! Just hit the CC button!
far too much fruits on those cakes surely
Barok en eigentijdse dans heeft een toekomst
Nice copy
What is the bloody point in writing the title in English, when the speak is in Dutch....??????
Bach is considered easy music for a pianist.
Play Ricercar a 6 BWV 1080 with perfect voicing...
Easy music for pianist? Found the clown of this comment section
Used to play darts? Oh my god!!!
Talk talk talk talk blah blah blah. Let's hear see music and see some sights.
