Umk3 is more beloved on the genesis But sega was still blowing the house down. Castlevania,contra,sonic 3,sonic & knuckles , The only thing was snes started using the 3d esq models first . With donkey Kong & killer instinct . All sega had to streamline eternal champions gameplay & had. Simpler ,better story like angels of death trying to recapture the souls that stayed ,but then formulated a plan to keep the souls and stay in earth instead of returning to the afterlife 🤷🏾♂️ And a simpler gameplay mix of mk & sf Used the 3d model of vector man/toy story .. and the sound tech they used for comix zone. 💥 BOOM !…Eternal champions 2 Then used the 3d model engine to make Phantasy star 4 Because people were stupid then .!all they had to do was be wowed .. And some games was too hard. Toy story /comix zone Used 3d models for street of rage 3 Made the damn game easier and removed the hyper speed,auto combo crap.

A damn near perfect port of the arcade game. Has all of the fatalities, friendships, babalities and violence. Graphics and sound are almost spot on. The mode 7 used during the pit stage fatality is a nice touch. Definitely the best home version of this game and a turning point for Nintendo in the console wars!
Once the SNES heavy hitters started hitting, it was all but over, and Nintendo pretty much took a sizable chunk of the 16 bit market, while their competitor was scrambling and coming up with cheap ass add ons that added nothing. The CD was wasted due to shitty FMV games, and the 32X was completely underutilized and a waste of everyone's time and money.

One of the best home ports of MKII available. Has graphics that are really good and close to the arcade release. Easily blows the first MK game on the SNES out of the water.
So many hours put into this game! I recall many times my brother and his friends had stay overnight to try out all the cheats and secrets and having a copy of the strategy guide
I still remember in the 90s getting in GamePro magazine in the mail every month. When I saw the rating of 5.0 in everything for MK I went to the video game store and bought it for $70. It was worth every penny so much fun because everything was so close to the Arcade port.
I owned both this one and the Game Boy version. The SNES Mortal Kombat 2 was a vast improvement over the first MK on Super Nintendo, even though I got more playtime out of Street Fighter 2 Turbo myself.
I love how the AI isn't as aggressive as the arcade original. Makes this already faithful port even better than the original cabinets Midway decided to crap out!
Just realised. The lead melody in the Living Forest stage of the SNES version is the same as the lead melody of the Fire God fight in MK Mythologies. Dan Forden must have reused it.
In addition to Arcade, I played this port of MK II for the Super Nintendo a lot when it was released. It was a very good adaptation, very close to the Arcade and much better than the Genesis/Mega Drive version. A classic that I still love and play today!!
By far the best home port of this game of all other versions including the Saturn and PlayStation. just about everything from the arcade is here and in its proper place.
My preferred cheese strats versus the AI are sweep kicks in the early matches, followed with the jump kick exploit later on - walk forward to push the AI back, jump backwards without attacking, and then jump-kick forward to counter their follow-up jump.
Growing up with mk2 on mega drive then randomly 1 day renting a snes with mk2 from the video store was blown away by this version as kid like wth it’s like 1000times Better than mega drive version. but love the sega sound chip / music
Probe were truly incompetent, imagine if Sculptured Software, who did this port, had also been allowed to do the Genesis version. We saw they did MK 3 far better than Probe's previous two efforts.
Mileena and Kitana are my favorite "Mortal Kombat II" characters to play -- Mileena because of her Ground Roll, her Maneater Fatality, and her Flowers Friendship and Kitana because of her Fan Lift, her Kiss of Death Fatality, and her Birthday Cake Friendship. The Friendships are pretty cool, though you can't use the Punch buttons if you want to use them. The Babalities? Not so much because they turn your defeated opponent into an infant. Like the Friendships, you can't use the Punch buttons if you want to use the Babalities. Even better is all you need to do to access Jade is win one match below the ? using only the Kick buttons but no blocking. Pushing the Down key and the Start button at the same time when the Toasty Face appears in the Portal II allows you to fight Smoke and requires good timing. Noob Saibot appears when you win 50 Two-Player Game victories. Still, Mileena could have offered to give Baraka the Flowers since they make such an awesome team together.
Lol I'd take this over the Amiga version. This is actually the first version of this game I owned. It wasn't until Midway Arcade Treasures 2 that I got what I wanted lol.
I don't think you got anything besides the notoriety of beating a secret character, and a free chance to change your character if you lose - I don't think losing to secret characters costs a credit.
Not at all, timed jumpkicks are your friend, works in both 16 bit ports, the 32X port, and the arcade original. On Genesis, Sub-Zero and Scorpion could do either the freeze, or the spear over and over on Kintaro, poor bastard would be caught every single time, but trying that on the SNES and arcade versions, and he'd destroy you.

I dont know why Johnny Cage has red for this when he wore black and blue for his attire, and he looks a little different compared to the arcade and Genesis port.
seeing you use the same strategy over and over with varying degrees of success was pretty funny. then again the game deserves it for having such cheap AI-i think the original arcade version actually reads your inputs directly in order to create perfect counterplay. thats some shady quarter munching insanity. i heard they toned it down for this port though
Why did Nintendo have a family friendly policy the Genesis Original mortal kombat port had Blood while the snes one left it out all together so the genesis one is better the only thing the genesis didn’t have was the graphics there horrible on the snes there better but my point is everything should be better but mk2 on SNES was pretty decent
This SNES version is still considered the best home port to this very day (yes even better than the 32 bit CD versions, both horrible), so it's more than decent. Genesis might've taken the MK1 campaign, but Nintendo absolutely blitzed them with MK 2.

I got an snes for my 9th birthday. I picked this game up for my snes that year. To be clear this was 30 years ago. Life was great!

Nintendo learned from their mistake and made a comeback with the best home port of Mortal Kombat II.
Another time the Super Nintendo beat the Genesis.
They should have made it right by doing a re-release of Mortal Kombat 1 with all the bells and whistles.

Which version? PS1 or N64? I checked both and it sound similar to the living forest stage from SNES MK2.
