@@radone469 Everything; The disembodied creepy voice, the fatalities, the character’s voices, the music, the atmosphere, the places, and yet despite all that it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.
The thing that the Sega Genesis had in spades was their ratio of color depth, contrast and deep blacks. Snes had way more ability to render subtle and sophisticated graphics, but its colors were always lighter, the Genesis went full dark mode which enhances MK2 immensely, definetly the best version IMO
You'd be in quite the minority, many fans, and even the magazines back in the day absolutely lambasted this version, and gave the SNES version it's well deserved praise for looking much like the arcade version. Missing voice effects, like the announcer, background animations gone (no pterodactyl's in the Kombat Tomb stage, the monk is gone in the Tower stage), no portraits for character endings, no versus screen, tons of cuts (MK 3 at least had more going for it on the Genesis than MK 1 or 2 did due to no Probe involvement) absolutely crippled this game. The absolute worst ports, besides the handheld versions, the PS1 and Saturn ports, which are both terrible. MK2 on Genesis had washed out colors, something the 32X version at least rectified, yet brought nothing else to the table besides a bit more in the way of vocal effects.
@@Bloodreign1 well, if you want to pick a fight, then let me tell you this. SNES plays like shit. and i prefer something unique than something that is arcade version wannabe.
@@tnt070 Some of us prefer something that at least tries to be like the arcade game, you are in quite the minority for this game. Probe is the bane of many gamers, a lot of folks hated what Probe did to this game. A major reason why MK3 turned out far better than this dog turd of a port is because Sculptured Software put better effort into making the game as close to the arcade as they could, something they did for MK 2 on the SNES. Nothing unique about this game at all, just a bunch of cuts Probe made that were not at all necessary due to their programming incompetence. Enjoy your shitty Genesis port for this one, if I play an MK on Genesis, and playing MK is quite rare for me these days due to owning better fighting games, I'll stick with MK 3. At least MK 3 plays something like the arcade game. As for MK 2 SNES, you're full of crap, the game controls well, the arcade combos work as well. MK1 may not have had the best controls, but MK 2 and MK 3 played extremely well. I spoke the truth about this Genesis version of MK2, and it seemed to have triggered you. I have played both versions extensively, I know what was cut from both games, and the Genesis had a hell of a lot more sacrifices made to it (as I said, the 32X version at least rectified some things). Magazines of the time ripped into this version, and rightfully so, including EGM, known to be more favorable to Sega games at the time, and gave bad grades to games when devs wouldn't give them something free in return. This one wasn't a case of that, EGM reviewers knew the port was bad, gamers at home knew too. I knew of only 1 person who had MK 2 Genesis, the rest of us owned the SNES version, and would often have tournaments, the Genesis version I have only ever been able to play solo as no one else sensibly wanted to touch it. Not to mention the Kintaro AI is extremely dumb in this version, especially with Scorpion and Sub-Zero. You spear him or freeze him, uppercut, throw spear, or ice again, catch him again, uppercut, spear or ice again, rinse and repeat for easy victory. In the arcade version, he was susceptible to jumpkicks from a certain distance, something also present in the home versions.
The music and sound just kills it though. SNES version was all around the better experience. Also the 3 button controller was awful for fighting games.
How Reptile was created was they put Scorpion & Sub-Zero together. In the first game he had their weapons instead of weapons of his own. Also blue & yellow mixed together make green.
MK 2 is where the series peaked. Awesome game play, gory fatalities, no gimmicky guest fighters, just a solid game with great replay value. Too bad it all got chucked in the toilet with 3, to the point they had release the "Ultimate" version just to course correct.
