I remember reading something back in the day that showed off Alan Moore's script for an issue of McFarlane's Violator that was essentially a mini comic where Moore showed off where he wanted things to go. Seeing that was an eye opener for me.

My first thought when I bought a couple of the Batman Unwrapped pencil collections (Lee and Finch) was how diminished the artistic statement of the inker has become. On his channel, Richard Friend did a long flip-through of the Michael Turner Supergirl Artist Edition; the comic was actually printed from Turner's insanely tight pencils. I'm not that much of a fan of any of these guys, but those originals are so rich they give you an ice cream headache.

It's pretty insane, learning that Bolland drew the piece with a mouse with that level of precision. I remember trying that in the early Photoshop days, and the results would always end up looking extremely messy and uncontrolled.

I'm glad I came across this video, I've passed on the Dark Knight Noir and Killing Joke Noir, I've got the Mad Love coloring book tho - but seeing your video makes me want to go and get (at least) the Killing Joke Noir because that (originally) B & W story where the kid shoots Batman hasn't been reprinted outside of the Batman: Black & White collected editions (not even in the Absolute Edition of The Killing Joke.

Why the hell didn't DC include Bolland's BATMAN #400 story contribution, into the BATMAN Noir book? Seems like it'd be a natural fit..

If I got the story straight, originally those black and white editions where an idea by the French publisher in 2013. It worked well and a couple of year later DC made their own.

Long Halloween is great in B&W! Killing joke is very interesting too along with both colored versions which I know you guys have looked at.

Fun fact: Although Action #1 contains mostly full-color material, it also has two black-and-white stories, concerning cowboy Chuck Dawson and reporter Scoop Scanlon. No idea what the rationale was.

Bought the Jim Lee book on comixology, it's soooo hard to read. I agree, it's perfect on a big book of paper, sure not digital. At least for me 😏

    Was Killing Joke drawn digitally?

No. It was drawn in the 80s. The only American comics that were digital then - Mike Saenz' Shatter! - Jim

I am definitely adding "post-production douchebaggery" to my verbal repetoire! Thanks, Ed!
