@CodeOtaku I doubt he will come for Eri. Not after everything he's lost. When Shiggy found him tied up, Overhaul already accepted his fate. He's finally come back to his senses. I have no slight doubt that he MIGHT change for the better. He is a redeemable character, idc what anyone says, someone just had to knock some sense into his thick skull of his. His intentions weren't that bad, ironically, erasing quirks is a good idea, you'll realize how terryfing and powerful quirks will get, to the point people can't control them. His approach to those intentions was bad tho, definitely. He isn't evil just for the sake of being evil that's for sure. He doesn't need to suddenly get on the good side, but I really hope he somehow helps the heroes fight the League Of Villains. You can say it would be.... sweet revenge.
If you think about it, Chisaki is to Tomura like how Togata is to Midoriya. All Might was going to select Togata for One for All while criminals believed that Chisaki was the best person to fill in All for One's place.

The Unicorn the “beak” part of the mask is full of herbs, plants, spices and stuff like that as back then they thought the plague was spread through “bad oxygen”. It kept them safe from the bacteria and it helped them smell nice from all the rotten bodies and stuff.

People hate on the arc way too much. I thought it was brilliant. Re-reading it all the way through, in one go, makes it even better. Chisaki is a big plus, for all the reasons you stated in the video.
The arc had quite a few breaks (like 2 sometimes 3 weeks between chapters) though so it felt like the arc dragged on forever because horikoshi was quite sickly at the time. Which happens Y'know ain't his fault, people just like to complain, but they're probably gonna streamline some of the arc in the anime.
My only problem was that it didn't seem well organized ironically when compared to Chisaki. We kept getting these cutbacks to "5 min ago" "4 min later" "at the same time." It helps organize the events down to the minute, but he could've had them happen more in real time rather than back tracking
Ok, it seems like some people are under the impression that Chisaki was killed by the Villain Alliance This is not true. After Shigaraki cut off Overhaul's hands, the Villain Alliance just left. The explosion was just for extra cool points, Overhaul did not explode Shigaraki mentions how he will make sure that Overhaul is kept alive, so that he can watch in envy as Shigaraki rises to power as the next ruler of Darkness

And upon seeing your video, it almost feels like Horikoshi intended for people to make this comparison What are your thoughts on the recent chapter where Bakugo asks Deku if he improved or not, and Deku answers with a "No"? I just wanna quickly mention that he didn't get both of his hands off, only one. The other one was put into these small blue balls that one trickster carries around. I think they have a plan on giving him back his one arm at some point, but that's just a thought.

@@leeleelee7878 The fact he was able to completely deny a prediction determined to be 100 percent accurate to acquire one for all at 100 percent is where the plot armor comes in. If they just didn't outright deny the fact that Nighteye's predictions are 100% true, which he STATED HIMSELF, I would have been more fine with this ending. but I just feel like the whole thing was fake, as It was never supposed to happen. But deku decided to re-write the plot because he's the main character. Now if you were to say that Sir Nighteye also stated predictions are more cloudy as farther they are from happening, that would be a decent counterargument. However, deku "dying" would have taken place soon after Nighteye foresaw the future that was supposed to take place, making this counterargument pointless. As with saying All might defeating him, that would be an entirely different scenario. All might has had years of One For All usage under his belt, and is able to handle it at full power, as well as having extra knowledge of the quirk gained over time. Deku does not have this knowledge, as he has only been using it for around a year, and can only handle up to ~20 percent without deleting himself. Eri did make him on the "same level" as all might, but All might still would be more powerful than 100% Deku as he would have more experience. A second counterargument that would lure me to your side, but there are MASSIVE spoilers incoming, just a warning As we learn later, One For All has multiple quirks stored inside of it. The only one we really "see" is blackwhip. However, if there was a passive quirk or something like that that would allow deku to change fate, That would make this fight make a lot more sense. However, this hasn't been revealed, and I think it is highly unlikely as having an ability like this would potentially make deku one of the strongest characters in all of anime. I doubt you are going to read all of this, but if you do, and still respond, I haven't yet run out of things to point out.
@@spectre489 actually after watching the anime it's more like Nightey is just assuming things. He hardly goes full on in his foresight. Ever notice everytime he uses it its only a few moments. He always gets pieces of what's happening but never the full picture. He just predicts what the predictions is about and assumes its gonna happen. A second thing is that whenever he dies try to change its only him by himself. He never thought of allowing others to be in on it.
I would argue that Deku isn't simply the generic shounen hero. He's Spiderman, and that archetype of hero, just filtered through a Japanese shounen lens.

I mean, my evidence that Deku is Spiderman comes directly from Horikawa himself, consistently name-dropping how Deku is his take on the Spiderman "normy given power and now needs to learn how to control it, then later use it to inspire others" archetype.
Yeah, besides Deku is pretty nerd and inteligent and also knows a lot. And usually the the traditional shounen hero, like goku or naruto, is not the type of guy who knows lots of stuff.
A truly excellent breakdown on Kai Chisaki. I see some MHA fans not liking his character. I argue a lot of that was due to a lack of fleshing out his backstory. While I found Horikoshi's efforts great, I can sympathize with people who wanted to see more of a fully fleshed out backstory, especially compared to Gentle in the most recent arc. But to me; why I love Chisaki is that he is a sociopath done well. I love how Kai is so determined to go about his goal as a means to owing the Yakuza boss who had saved his life. And this is so much so that even when his boss voiced disapproval; he was unable to comprehend it and in turn still deluded himself into thinking he was doing the right thing. Especially, when you consider his disgust of Quirks. So yeah; Kai is awesome and what was what MHA needed.
I completely agree with everything except for one. I actually believe he's a textbook psychopath, but that's minor. No ability to have feelings of remorse or guilt, no morality, very level-headed, calm and collected, came off as charming at first. But like I said that doesn't really matter lol

I really like how Magne being trans was handled in MHA. A lot of other animes are terrible at giving a decent representation of trans people. The fact that Magne's friends correct someone on the use of her pronouns was a nice touch to show how much they cared about her.

Your options are more than just behaving rudely to the disabled or pandering to sjw culture and glorifying them Ideally they are treated just like everyone else baring issues of equity (i.e special treatment to address their disability such as ramps etc)
I want Chisaki to return, wouldn’t it be amazing if in prison Chisaki literally adapts without hands, maybe like 100 chapters later chisaki is just screaming in a destroyed tartarus. Then it’s explained that he adapted to use his quirk with his mouth or feet. Imagine him just creating matter from his mouth and feet. This dynamic would make his struggle make his quirk “evolve”. I know that a lot of heroes in comics end up having their powers evolve, so I would not be surprised if the author did this.
Also him overcoming his germophobia and using his mouth for his quirk would be huge for his character as well. The main reason I want Chisaki to come back though is because I feel like Shigaraki needs to learn a lesson for not killing him when he could've. He really had no good reason to keep Chisaki alive other than make him suffer and I really want to see that decision to come back and bite him in the ass. Maybe Chisaki even comes back as a huge villain later on without his quirk and he is just masterminding everything. He clearly demonstrated that he outsmarted Shigaraki in every way when they first met and I want to see them have a real match on equal terms and not just have Shigaraki show up and steal the hard earned prize from Deku and the other heroes who did all the work.

He'll return, at the end of the series, when it's time for Deku to take down Shigaraki as his nemesis. He'll help Deku to track down Shigaraki who has planted his feet deep in the underworld to spite him, kind of a revenge for what Shiggy has done to him. because, he's familiar on how that place work due to his involvement with Yakuza. Sadly, it's still long way tho.
Thanks for this vid. After catching up in the series Overhaul became my fav character and I was so disappointed he followed the classic rhythm of introduced, hyped up, defeated and imprisoned. It's just Tomura at times pisses me off with his child like attitude and the fact he had the perfect chance to kill deku but didnt. Not to mention tomuras big conviction reveal was basically his motivation from season 1 so it fell flat. In overhaul I saw a sense of organization done properly and for once a decent threat since he killed people without mercy. I think that my hero academia greatest fault is that Stain and Overhaul have had unique idealogies that have carried the series while the other heros and villains just get basic powerups and let's be honest. A good idealogy can carry you further than another simple boring powerup. Let's hope overhaul gets his arms back and comes back with a vengance
He's definitely one of the well written one in the series, at least it's not that fast to reach his defeat, he survived the longest compared to stain, afo, and gentle, and his arc was the longest by far in this series, so yea, when his arc gets animated it's gonna take up the whole season 4 with 25 eps since it's so long
Oh, I love Chisaki. He is great! I really enjoyed the Internship Arc. And I hope, that we will see him once more in the story. (His status is unknown in the wiki, at least I have to know if he is alive or not. He has to live!) For some time, he was my favorite villain of MHA but than came that chapter and Tomura took the throne back.
Really good video! I knew about the links to Buddhism but I didn't know it ran that deeply. Good insight I'd also like to add that Chisaki's character spoke a lot on the themes of abuse. Such as him hurting Eri and putting his Father is a coma for "their own good" in order to help them in his own twisted way. And there's especially the plotline of "just look the other way" that Deku and Mirio go through that's reminiscent of people purposely ignoring abuse and regretting it.
Its funny how much Chisaki cares about his dad though still, He looked more worried about not being able fix that old man and give him this world that is controlled by the Yakuza, rather than not having a quirk you know. That does intrigue me to see what we may do with his character down the line.
Overhaul really is one of my favorite characters in the MHA series, he's planned, calm, calculated. He's a solid villian that was perfect but left too quickly

I personally felt he was rushed, i feel like they spent the beginning and a while onto building him very well putting though into it but then it progressed to heroes saving helpless Eri from Chisaki's abuse and treatment and then he was turned (which he is but then that's what was it, i felt like then they made him just this unlikavle scumbag and his thinking and stuff was just a bit abandoded) into a piece of trash abusing a child which he is trash as an abuser but as a villain and character is very good. On reddit i read a comment which involved heroes refusing to see Chisaki's motivation and point of wiew of just him abusing Eri i feel like they are like "He's trying to get rid of our quirks! Make heroes weaker by creating quirk bullets and he's working with other villains including LOV and do something bad on top of it he's abusing Eri!" I feel like they saw just that and nothing other which is such a waste, watching the characters and the heroes including pro heroes i feel like they would at least see a bit from his wiew
To be honest Chizaki is a bit too broken as a villain. It took five heroes with OP quirk to beat him. Le Million, Night Eye, Eraser Head, Deku, and Eri combined to finally beat him
UltraX every new villain has to be STRONGER and BIGGER and SCARIER than the villain before them. Anime villains are always overpowered against the heroes. The heroes then have to unlock new power or strategy to beat them

I mean, the whole organization yeah. But it only took 2 teenagers and a little girl with an incredibly convenient ability to take chisaki down. I don't want you to get the wrong idea, this arc has some of my favourite fights in the series, just this one was really disappointing.
Gary the Hot Soup actually reread it again. It took a hell of a lot to take him down. You're kinda just undermining what it takes to bring Chisaki down. Again. 100 fucking percent. You need to become at least All Might level of strength just to bring him down. It also took Eri, Mirio, Ryuu, Uraraka, Asui, Nejire, Nighteye even just to buy time cuz of how effective if a threat he was. People really underestimate the amount of effort to beat Chisaki.

You can say that, but in my book, if a character has their ability ret-conned (or changed or discovered or whatever) and it suddenly allows the protagonist to become as strong as the most powerful character in the canon, and its uncovered right as the main villain morphs into a colossal kaiju then that's pretty convenient. Also, the point about all superpowers being born of convenience in the first place is pretty moot, since its an assumption built into the premise of the show, whereas Eri pulling a 100% enabling ability basically out of thin air right when it was needed is just an excuse to make Izuku look really cool and suplex an eldritch abomination into submission. Also, Chisaki is said to be an incredible threat a lot, but all he really did was obliterate a couple of jobbers so thats pretty "tell dont show" in my book. If he really was all that scary then I think a 17-year-old boy wouldn't be able to beat him flawlessly without getting touched once by a single of his many tentacles. That entire fight was one plot convenience after another but if you like it that's fine. It looked cool and was very important to the narrative but for all the substance the actual fight had it might as well have been a rock-paper-scissors duel.
I can't believe he's B ranked villain...Considering his forms took a lot of pro heroes to actually capture him, like what if Deku wasn't there. He would have escaped and re-built his organizations or sm
I love him, he's such a well established villain, I wanna see him again! I feel like he should have been a much more major threat. He's the most dangerous villain in the series, and yet he was basically just Deku's work study practical exercise.
Chisaki was amazing as a villain and when he lost his hands, the two sides of me clashed hard. Side one screamed "HE DESERVED IT!" and the other side of me was like "HE WAS JUST TRYING TO HELP THE WORLD DAMMIT! IT WAS A TWISTED MORALE I CAN ACTUALLY SORTA GET BEHIND" and this is why I love Chisake. Same with Stain. They both seem to challenge your morals in different ways, Stain with his killing the fakes and Chisake with his cure the world mentality
Gotta say though, Shigaraki is fast becoming one of my favourite villains ever, I laughed so hard (in disbelief) at how evil he acted when taking Chisakis arms, such amazing character growth

I have to say though, I just think his regular is so awesome, that I disliked, when he changed. I don't know, if I want to see him again, but he was definitely a big stepping stone for Shigaraki and I hope we will get to see, how Shigaraki mentions, how he learned to be more organized from Overhaul, much like how Deku mentions how he learns from Bakugou (for example). I just wanna quickly mention that he didn't get both of his hands off, only one. The other one was put into these small blue balls that one trickster carries around. I think they have a plan on giving him back his one arm at some point, but that's just a thought.

We knew Overhaul would be defeated, but the fashion he was defeated IN felt like plot armor. Does this clear it up?

@@leeleelee7878 The fact he was able to completely deny a prediction determined to be 100 percent accurate to acquire one for all at 100 percent is where the plot armor comes in. If they just didn't outright deny the fact that Nighteye's predictions are 100% true, which he STATED HIMSELF, I would have been more fine with this ending. but I just feel like the whole thing was fake, as It was never supposed to happen. But deku decided to re-write the plot because he's the main character. Now if you were to say that Sir Nighteye also stated predictions are more cloudy as farther they are from happening, that would be a decent counterargument. However, deku "dying" would have taken place soon after Nighteye foresaw the future that was supposed to take place, making this counterargument pointless.
As with saying All might defeating him, that would be an entirely different scenario. All might has had years of One For All usage under his belt, and is able to handle it at full power, as well as having extra knowledge of the quirk gained over time. Deku does not have this knowledge, as he has only been using it for around a year, and can only handle up to ~20 percent without deleting himself. Eri did make him on the "same level" as all might, but All might still would be more powerful than 100% Deku as he would have more experience.
A second counterargument that would lure me to your side, but there are MASSIVE spoilers incoming, just a warning
As we learn later, One For All has multiple quirks stored inside of it. The only one we really "see" is blackwhip. However, if there was a passive quirk or something like that that would allow deku to change fate, That would make this fight make a lot more sense. However, this hasn't been revealed, and I think it is highly unlikely as having an ability like this would potentially make deku one of the strongest characters in all of anime.
I doubt you are going to read all of this, but if you do, and still respond, I haven't yet run out of things to point out.
@@spectre489 actually after watching the anime it's more like Nightey is just assuming things. He hardly goes full on in his foresight. Ever notice everytime he uses it its only a few moments. He always gets pieces of what's happening but never the full picture. He just predicts what the predictions is about and assumes its gonna happen. A second thing is that whenever he dies try to change its only him by himself. He never thought of allowing others to be in on it.
I would argue that Deku isn't simply the generic shounen hero. He's Spiderman, and that archetype of hero, just filtered through a Japanese shounen lens.

A truly excellent breakdown on Kai Chisaki. I see some MHA fans not liking his character. I argue a lot of that was due to a lack of fleshing out his backstory. While I found Horikoshi's efforts great, I can sympathize with people who wanted to see more of a fully fleshed out backstory, especially compared to Gentle in the most recent arc. But to me; why I love Chisaki is that he is a sociopath done well. I love how Kai is so determined to go about his goal as a means to owing the Yakuza boss who had saved his life. And this is so much so that even when his boss voiced disapproval; he was unable to comprehend it and in turn still deluded himself into thinking he was doing the right thing. Especially, when you consider his disgust of Quirks. So yeah; Kai is awesome and what was what MHA needed.

I actually believe he's a textbook psychopath, but that's minor. No ability to have feelings of remorse or guilt, no morality, very level-headed, calm and collected, came off as charming at first.

I really like how Magne being trans was handled in MHA. A lot of other animes are terrible at giving a decent representation of trans people. The fact that Magne's friends correct someone on the use of her pronouns was a nice touch to show how much they cared about her.

I want Chisaki to return, wouldn’t it be amazing if in prison Chisaki literally adapts without hands, maybe like 100 chapters later chisaki is just screaming in a destroyed tartarus. Then it’s explained that he adapted to use his quirk with his mouth or feet. Imagine him just creating matter from his mouth and feet. This dynamic would make his struggle make his quirk “evolve”. I know that a lot of heroes in comics end up having their powers evolve, so I would not be surprised if the author did this.
Also him overcoming his germophobia and using his mouth for his quirk would be huge for his character as well.
The main reason I want Chisaki to come back though is because I feel like Shigaraki needs to learn a lesson for not killing him when he could've. He really had no good reason to keep Chisaki alive other than make him suffer and I really want to see that decision to come back and bite him in the ass. Maybe Chisaki even comes back as a huge villain later on without his quirk and he is just masterminding everything. He clearly demonstrated that he outsmarted Shigaraki in every way when they first met and I want to see them have a real match on equal terms and not just have Shigaraki show up and steal the hard earned prize from Deku and the other heroes who did all the work.

Sadly, it's still long way tho.

Thanks for this vid. After catching up in the series Overhaul became my fav character and I was so disappointed he followed the classic rhythm of introduced, hyped up, defeated and imprisoned. It's just Tomura at times pisses me off with his child like attitude and the fact he had the perfect chance to kill deku but didnt. Not to mention tomuras big conviction reveal was basically his motivation from season 1 so it fell flat. In overhaul I saw a sense of organization done properly and for once a decent threat since he killed people without mercy. I think that my hero academia greatest fault is that Stain and Overhaul have had unique idealogies that have carried the series while the other heros and villains just get basic powerups and let's be honest. A good idealogy can carry you further than another simple boring powerup. Let's hope overhaul gets his arms back and comes back with a vengance
He's definitely one of the well written one in the series, at least it's not that fast to reach his defeat, he survived the longest compared to stain, afo, and gentle, and his arc was the longest by far in this series, so yea, when his arc gets animated it's gonna take up the whole season 4 with 25 eps since it's so long

I'd also like to add that Chisaki's character spoke a lot on the themes of abuse. Such as him hurting Eri and putting his Father is a coma for "their own good" in order to help them in his own twisted way. And there's especially the plotline of "just look the other way" that Deku and Mirio go through that's reminiscent of people purposely ignoring abuse and regretting it.

I personally felt he was rushed, i feel like they spent the beginning and a while onto building him very well putting though into it but then it progressed to heroes saving helpless Eri from Chisaki's abuse and treatment and then he was turned (which he is but then that's what was it, i felt like then they made him just this unlikavle scumbag and his thinking and stuff was just a bit abandoded) into a piece of trash abusing a child which he is trash as an abuser but as a villain and character is very good. On reddit i read a comment which involved heroes refusing to see Chisaki's motivation and point of wiew of just him abusing Eri i feel like they are like "He's trying to get rid of our quirks! Make heroes weaker by creating quirk bullets and he's working with other villains including LOV and do something bad on top of it he's abusing Eri!" I feel like they saw just that and nothing other which is such a waste, watching the characters and the heroes including pro heroes i feel like they would at least see a bit from his wiew

UltraX every new villain has to be STRONGER and BIGGER and SCARIER than the villain before them. Anime villains are always overpowered against the heroes. The heroes then have to unlock new power or strategy to beat them

I mean, the whole organization yeah. But it only took 2 teenagers and a little girl with an incredibly convenient ability to take chisaki down. I don't want you to get the wrong idea, this arc has some of my favourite fights in the series, just this one was really disappointing.
Gary the Hot Soup actually reread it again. It took a hell of a lot to take him down. You're kinda just undermining what it takes to bring Chisaki down. Again. 100 fucking percent. You need to become at least All Might level of strength just to bring him down. It also took Eri, Mirio, Ryuu, Uraraka, Asui, Nejire, Nighteye even just to buy time cuz of how effective if a threat he was. People really underestimate the amount of effort to beat Chisaki.

You can say that, but in my book, if a character has their ability ret-conned (or changed or discovered or whatever) and it suddenly allows the protagonist to become as strong as the most powerful character in the canon, and its uncovered right as the main villain morphs into a colossal kaiju then that's pretty convenient.
Also, the point about all superpowers being born of convenience in the first place is pretty moot, since its an assumption built into the premise of the show, whereas Eri pulling a 100% enabling ability basically out of thin air right when it was needed is just an excuse to make Izuku look really cool and suplex an eldritch abomination into submission.
Also, Chisaki is said to be an incredible threat a lot, but all he really did was obliterate a couple of jobbers so thats pretty "tell dont show" in my book. If he really was all that scary then I think a 17-year-old boy wouldn't be able to beat him flawlessly without getting touched once by a single of his many tentacles. That entire fight was one plot convenience after another but if you like it that's fine. It looked cool and was very important to the narrative but for all the substance the actual fight had it might as well have been a rock-paper-scissors duel.

I love him, he's such a well established villain, I wanna see him again! I feel like he should have been a much more major threat. He's the most dangerous villain in the series, and yet he was basically just Deku's work study practical exercise.

Chisaki was amazing as a villain and when he lost his hands, the two sides of me clashed hard. Side one screamed "HE DESERVED IT!" and the other side of me was like "HE WAS JUST TRYING TO HELP THE WORLD DAMMIT! IT WAS A TWISTED MORALE I CAN ACTUALLY SORTA GET BEHIND" and this is why I love Chisake. Same with Stain. They both seem to challenge your morals in different ways, Stain with his killing the fakes and Chisake with his cure the world mentality

I found the transformations a little campy, but the way you put it, it makes so much sense. I have to say though, I just think his regular is so awesome, that I disliked, when he changed.
I don't know, if I want to see him again, but he was definitely a big stepping stone for Shigaraki and I hope we will get to see, how Shigaraki mentions, how he learned to be more organized from Overhaul, much like how Deku mentions how he learns from Bakugou (for example).
