    As a UMich student the 2 you got on your academic rating is on a scale out of 15. 1 is the best rank and 15 is the worst. It’s just a way that they simplify ranking students to help look through files. Congrats on how well you did and go blue!

    It seems it requires insane credentials nowadays for students to get accepted. I feel fortunate being accepted and graduated from Michigan. But that was in the 90s and the app process was all paper, mostly hand written and the range of scores much different. Congrats and enjoy your time at the best overall all-around university in the world!!😊 #goblue

    • @NatalieMarie917
      @NatalieMarie917 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I went in the early 2010s, before the common app was a widely accepted thing. So, the admissions rate was a lot different (fewer applicants) but the average GPA and test scores were about the same.
      I think people are more likely now to just apply to Michigan for the hell of it or as a backup, since it doesn’t require quite as much time and effort to apply as it used to. So, I hope people don’t panic too much when they see the acceptance rate shrinking every year, or even if they get deferred.
      With that said, my number one tip for new applicants would be to try to make it as clear to them as possible that you are actually interested in going there. I don’t think they want to waste their time any more than you do.

    Trust me, the readers are very careful not to write down things that could get them in trouble by people like this who just need to see the admin files. If there are negative things written, its certain that the negative things that were spoken in committee was 10x worse.

    A lawyer guy I know said something that really stuck with me. He said, unless you want to be a Supreme Court Justice, it doesn't matter where you go to school for your law degree. If you want to be in the Supreme Court, then yes, by all means, go to Yale or Harvard. Otherwise, you are just wasting money.
    Just remember to love what you do. If you love your career, then you will never work a day in your life.

      I disagree.. The doors that are open for u has a strong relation to the place u graduate, all other factors being decent. If u r BUM, then u r a BUM not matter where u graduate. That being said, u can be a good professional no matter where u get trained. The only variable here is the doors that open thru connections.

    This seems like a lot of work, without any guarantee of success. I guess if you get a big Consulting Role, Wall Street, Big Law, Big Tech it all pays off. But I went to a directional school, my neighbors are Doctors, Pharmacists, MBAs from these sorts of schools.
    I live where they live just because I have a decent corporate job, and opened up real estate business.

    • @ericburton5163
      @ericburton5163 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In terms of emphasis or "weight" to get in, grades and test scores are the most important factors. But those are pretty straightforward. The video focuses on things that are subjective and thus have to be reviewed by a "reader" (because that is the most interesting thing / what there would be the most to review). The academic part (or rating) is obviously going to be shorter to explain in a video but the "weight" given to that portion is much greater. The essays while not weighted as much in the application/admission are obviously going to take up more space in a video because it is more subjective and interesting.
      Hope that clears it up.
      I think it is cool how transparent they are in releasing the information.

In terms of writing the essays, Ross posts stuff on their blog to provide more guidance on what they're looking for in these essays(which I found helpful). But you definitely have time before you need to apply so don't stress about it too much - just make sure to keep your grades and test scores up until then. Hopefully, this answered your question!

Some schools or special programs might have different requirements but for most colleges it's very similar.

    • @sammyy.1760
      @sammyy.1760  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To be honest I'm not sure what classifies as "interest." From the video, you saw that one reader said I had "strong UM interest" and another said I was "missing demonstrated interest" so expectations will likely vary from reader to reader. For my Why Umich essay, I took my time to research all the programs/classes/clubs that UofM had to offer and how they would align with my interests, and how I would be able to contribute to them as well. I think through this essay, admissions officers can really see if you've done your research about the school and thus show your interest in UofM

      I would say just keep emailing/calling people until you get a response. Typically local restaurants like to set up fundraisers so you can always raise money through there. What’s also useful is having every member on your team create their own contact list of 15-20 people and have them contact these people (could be relatives, friends, literally your dentist, etc) and this would really expand your potential donor base. I hope this helped, and good luck!
