Humanely dispatching, plucking, and processing farm and game animals is a skill a lot of us don't have these days. It's good to see it tactfully but honestly shown.
They’re cannibals for sure. My cockatiel used to climb down my arm when I was frying chicken and he would get very vocally upset if he didn’t get some crispies.

But the whole way through all the other projects this has always been an amazing cooking channel! I love you guys, I'm also insanely jealous of the life you have together in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

My family struggled keeping food on the table when I was a kid. Even as an adult my own family and I have had our hard moments. Watching you prep so much food gives me such a feeling of safety and comfort, even if it's just through a screen.
“2 drumscicles” …cracked me up… the closest I have ever come to plucking a chicken is using my dad’s old fashioned lighter to singe off the residual feathers… that was in the 1950’s … we also used ball canning jars but we had to put on the rubber lip and secure the glass top with a wire contraption that was attached to the jar! Love how you are still canning your food and marveling at how far technology has also progressed the art! Arielle and Eric, you are such a breath of fresh air! Thanks for sharing!
Great respect for you Arielle and Eric, hard work all season to feed yourselves, but you are healthier than most couples your age I am sure. Thanks for showing your extravaganza canning process. Enjoy. Bon Appétit.
I really admire how you off grid homesteaders live. Harvesting and eating organic food. No fast food! Don’t know what’s in those processed foods. Fresh chicken meat curry is delicious when cooked with lots of spices. Good for clearing head colds. You guys won’t go hungry this winter. 🇦🇺 fan.

I have been culling, processing and canning chickens for 50 years. I NEVER even thought about searing the chickens first. Thank you for showing me how to try a new method. Love Y'all ❤️
It is FABULOUS!! I do chuck roast, sirloin, pork roast, lamb roast. The caramelized seasonings and a little broth, or plain h2o, it makes great base for gravy, rice, noodles, potato flakes. Salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder.
You’re making me recall back almost 80 years ago with my older siblings and me helping my mom catch, dispatch, scald & pluck feathers off chickens!!Then after we did the plucking, she’d hold them over an open flame & rotate them to singe off anything left on the skin. And there were always a few pesky ‘pin feathers’ that had to be pulled out ! 🐓
Really enjoy your food processing or cooking videos. The fish ones too! You are both so skilled. It's great to know you have a good supply of healthy and satisfying foods to get through the winter.
What a glorious thing to see - all those lovely bottles of food to stash away!! Exciting to think of having that available for the whole winter - ENJOY!! 😋😋 Stay safe, be happy!!❤
Yay! Canning is my favorite! I admire you for taking advise of others over the years and apply what you have learned. In fact, you both have learned so much about how-to's on every project you have undertaken. I remember all of the little tidbits of info from past years! Well, at least the ones you share on these videos! Great fun today. Thanks!
Retired to Mexico. Make mole sauce for the canned chicken , pastor is another use for the peppers you bought too. Don’t forget about chorizo would be so delicious too. Thanks for sharing your time with us 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Wow, the canning is amazing; great teamwork brings on wholesome meals! Thanks for bringing us along & teaching. I was raised on a farm & chicken processing day was lengthy but mom did all the canning. Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦🌻
It is always amazing to me how well you work together! Sometimes no words are necessary! Thank you for sharing your life together. I look forward to every video.❤
Guys you almost made a Mexican Chile Colorado! The tiny chiles are probably Árbol - hot, hot, hot! The earthy ones are my favorite. If you use nothing but those they make a thick sauce and aren’t as hot. Those Anchos are special for Mexican mole. We will enjoy watching you eat in winter! Thanks for filling us in on work in Alaska!
We only use 1 arbol chili in most recipes, very hot & becomes uncomfortable for us if too hot. We love spicy, hot food too. Before we ever used them we tasted a very small piece of a dry arbol & our lips & tongue burned for 5 hours. We realized one would be plenty for us. Sauce looks delicious. Just canned Cowboy Candy yesterday for neighbor holiday gifts! Thank you for your adventures in the cold! We are relaxing in 82 degree sunshine! Aloha.
@@franklindumas1978 I was honestly shocked they used all those chilies in that sauce. All chillies must be respected! To ruin a freshly made sauce would make a person want to cry.
agreed. my favorite salsa is Fria Roja, but the recipe to make it calls for plenty of Arbol. even if I take out the seeds, they are too spicy! the other peppers are fine.
@@CH-hm8ud we have…still burns. Raised in Arizona & SoCal, love spicy great Mexican food, but want to taste it & enjoy it. Arbol chilis are like the Hawaiian chili pepper…hot to the point of uncomfortable.
Sure miss your dogs!! They were fun to see over the last few years on your homesteads and trips around Oregon and Alaska. I wish y'all would get a couple of more dogs possibly the same breeds. They would give you company wherever you go. I love dogs and their interaction with their owners.
I don’t think they should get the same breeds. Keep in mind those dogs came with them to Alaska from Oregon and they really weren’t the appropriate types of dogs to have in that climate. That’s why they always had to put jackets and sweaters and booties on them. If they do decide to get another dog or two, they should probably get ones that are used to the climate. There are husky rescues for retired sled dogs in Alaska. That might be a good place to start if you didn’t want to get a puppy.
Love the sunrise and sunset time too (and the vast variation as seasons change). The temp. means nothing to international watchers as only USA uses F to talk about temps, the rest of the world use Celsius, so they really need to show both for all viewers (well thats my opinion).
You might want to put a damp dish towel under your cutting board so it won't slide when you're breaking down meat. It makes a huge difference in the control you have over the knife when the board doesn't slide. Love the channel!
Always excited to catch a new video. What I like about your channel is you share a variety of different stuff and the scenery you share is breath taking... Thanks so much for sharing your lives with us and your beautiful state.
Love it when you can! Brings back a lot of happy memories. Sitting on the always cool back porch with dad and uncle Elvin peeling peaches, pears, apples, pitting cherries. Snapping beans, hulling dry beans, corn, tomatoes, beets. Making pickles. For me, my very favorite was picking the ground cherries. (you grew them one year at the old place) Mom made preserves out of them... Oh so good on toast with homemade bread and butter! YUM! Thanks for the memories! ❤❤Lori from Oregon

I've pressure canned beef cubes and some deer cubes from my first deer I harvested, but not bone-in chicken yet, and I WISH we had moose here! It's so satisfying putting up wild and homegrown food!
Watching this video it brought back memories of my grandparents who lived on a 100 acre farm. They didn’t have running water or inside plumbing when I was young. They raised chickens for eggs and meat also. The axe, boiling water, plucking of feathers and cutting up of the birds was part of every day life. They ate healthy like you two and enjoyed their life into their 90’s. Thanks again. Idaho fan

The other day I decided to fry up 9 lbs of ground venison and ground beef, to both make some freezer meals, and to have some already fried burger meat, for days I want to fix a quick meal, saving the defrost and fry time steps, that would make me often decide to fix something else, instead! I highly recommend families try at least frying up a bunch of burger meat, as meal prep. I also like to cook a lot of chicken breast in my pressure cooker, shred it, and freeze it in pkgs, ready to use in quick meal preps!
I used to buy 30#, cook about 20#, then slice off several meals of hamburger patty. Then I would make up 3 meatloaf. We had a good 6 months of dinner prepped and ready to make a ground meat meal, or th4ow in the oven. I swear chili, or casserole takes half the time to get in the oven.
Another great video that’s a lot of food will feed you guys all winter it looks so pretty in those jars that’s a lot of hard work. Thank you for sharing.❤
