In the evening when you come home from work you might be able to sell energy from your EV back to the grid for a profit then recharge early next morning before you go to work when wind and solar are producing excess energy at a cheaper price!

In the short term Gas peakers are an acceptable substitute for battery storage, Denmark is also investing heavily in hydrogen generation from wind power to store energy. Also in many areas there is hydro and nuclear to compliment wind and solar.
Yeah wind turbines don’t work so well in mile deep water, 100 miles offshore. Maybe try something simpler, ie growing your own food before trying to run the energy industry from your desktop.

In 2011 I worked on a team building the largest blades in the world, with a length of 73,5 meters. The largest blades today are around 100 meters or almost the length of an American football field (120 yards).
And they produce more electricity than smaller turbines - not just in megawatt capacity but also reaching capacity much more often - as far I remember max capacity 50% of time and producing electricity 80% of times for the best/largest wind farms
I saw a wind farm with huge turbines in a desolate area along a train track I travelled on. I found the huge turbines quite beautiful and mesmerizing. I love to see more of them built!
@@mateosanchez1823 Winter storms regularly happen in the northern parts of the state. Storms like what happened in 2021 are more rare, but it still happens. When i was in dallas, an ice storm was normally a one every year event. The panhandle, where a lot of texas wind is, experiences more frequent freezes compared to the rest of the state

However if you don't winterize your power infrastructure don't then turn around and scape-goat wind-turbines because they failed when you didn't winterize them. The fact the wind-turbines failed had nothing to do with renewable energy. Any powersource can fail in cold weather without proper winterizing. However how much do you want to pay to prepare for a "black swan" event. I think Texas is having those discussions right now.
I can understand why some would not want the wind turbines near their homes due to noise but they also wouldn't want to live near a coal fired power plant so it is probably best to try and place the turbines in an area that isn't so close to peoples homes just like a power plant. Also I heard if the turbine blades are painted a certain way it reduces the amount of birds flying into them.
Here in Tulsa, OK our manufacturing is booming because they build the metal pole sections that hold up the turbine here and our highways are new and large enough to transport the poles around town. It's really a sight to see, they're HUGE.

I'm not sure. People in Europe paying twice or even three times more for electricity. Looking the latest data from the U.K indicates that wind is so unreliable that natural gas is being used to generate around 90% of all demand. Plus, U.K is importing more and more electricity from neighbor countries. What a shame a wealth and developed country importing 11% of its electricity on a regular basis.

Charles, a large part of the U.K.'s renewables is Drax which is a consistent generator (Burning wood pellets) but it is completely wrong to categorise it as renewable. More smoke and mirrors from teh government. It's CO2 output per Mwatt hour is far higher than coal due to alower thermal efficiency. Germany and the U.K. have some of the highest unit costs of electricity in Europe and the world due to these technically defficient souces of power.

Texas lost its power because the state refused to winter-proof its facilities and its electrical grid is totally isolated from the other two major interconnected nationwide electricity grids because Texas doesn't want to be govern by policies other than their own. So now, electricity cannot be directed from other states to Texas causing days of blackouts, pipe burst, and death. Texas is so far south of North America. Do you ever wonder why other states that are far closer to the Arctic aren't as affected by the cold front as Texas?

I’m a wind tech, I’ve been doing it for 7 years, we are so understaffed right now it’s not even funny. Our Business is thriving. Brand new guys are making 2k a week, AFTER TAXES. it’s a great paying industry and I love my job. I’m making 3-4k a week and I’m so thankful, I’m 25, my house is paid off, my 2 kids have their college paid for already just waiting for them to turn 18. I love my industry. And were not going anywhere 🙃

I'm still a staunch supporter of nuclear energy. Should be much cheaper and if combined with wind and solar... can reduce the demand on just nuclear energy alone, thus reducing potential radioactive products required to store away. It's still a strong proponent to get to the zero emission goal. Since nuclear power is the strong power producing technology we have and zero carbon emissions. Modernized nuclear power plants should have severely reduced the number of potential accidents and disaster that is still around on old nuclear power plants that hasn't been shut down and/or decommissioned.

I am pro decarbonizing hence I am pro nuclear power. NP is the gold standard of clean energy. It’s as clean and safe as any alternative, requires a fraction of the resources and produces clean, reliable energy 24/7/365. NP really is the premier example of dematerialization in which we actually use less to produce more. And we certainly don't add intermittent power sources in order to harden our increasingly fragile energy infrastructure.
When looking at what harm windpower might cause, you should balance that out with effects of current power production.. e.g some part of health issues, deaths, killing of entire species, increasing storms, flooding , droughts and sea level rise.. helps a lot to put things in perspective👍🇳🇴
There's a study made in 2012 I think, that put this into perspective. Coal plants were many, many times deadlier per KWh. Some think like 12,000 to 2,00 per X kWh.

This story is missing an important detail about offshore wind. Far from interfereing with fish it actually saves marine life from ocean floor trawlers so wind farms become marine life refuges.

There was considerable opposition to the putting offshore wind turbine farms near Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island, and only recently has the technology for building offshore wind farms has been viable to put it in the deeper waters between the east end of Long Island and Martha's Vineyard.
Wind turbine generators are not a part of a power grid's dispatchable power. The grid capacity is from dispatchable power that the wind turbine generators can substitute for when able to make power. It is wild AC that has to be conditioned to be power grid quality.

Having high temperature generation IV nuclear with heat storage would make wind power more comparable with the needs of the electric grid. Plants like these could produce back up and peak power when wind is have trouble producing power.

I work as energy analyst for a energy company in Texas. The problem is not depending one sources of energy but a hybrid. Solar to match oil, wind to match natural gas or coal to match nuclear. The answer is simply you need a back up to back up, to the back up. Wind doesn’t allows blow and solar sun doesn’t always shine and natural gas or coal is not always the answer.
On the grid where I live in Australia, we have coal and solar and wind and gas. The Capacity Factor of coal is about 60% and the cApacity factor of wind is about 50%. Because the wind so cheap and reliable the coal power stations are closing down. Probably all gone in a few years or so. As the wind turbines get bigger. so does their Capacity Factor, especially if they are well engineered and large enough to run in geostrophic winds above the atmospheric boundary layer.
Ya and people say that getting rid of coal and oil will get rid of jobs which is true but there will he way more jobs with nuclear, wind turbines, and solar panels

The answer to bird deaths are Vertical Wind Turbines (VWT). These wind electricity generators do not change shape and as such are treated by birds as another obstacle to fly around. Also, they generate power regardless of the winds direction. As the grab blades are 360 degrees around the VWT.
Uhmm... regular wind turbines automatically turn into the wind. And VWT isn't an effective way of generating electricity. There's a reason why they never took off.

All fossil fuel and nuke power plants operate on the same principle. Heat water and use it to turn a turbine. Nukes are just very big, complicated and radioactive water heaters. No quantum leap of technology for generating electricity.

Is wind energy generation cheaper than conventional gas, but in gas, does the transport to the facilities include the transport of the gas through the gas pipeline, or by whatever transport?
I am not sure of actual research, just hearsay. But some Dutch fishers have reported, that while their yield declined after the installation of an off-shore wind farm, it actually increased to pre-wind farm levels because the artificial reef provided a safe zone, that became so diverse, it pushes species out of it. So it might be the case that it helps provide a sustainable baseline. Almost like creating a marine habitat preserve.

All forms of power generation failed not just renewable 🤦🏾♂️. Texas has its mass outage for 2reasons 1 their state is the only state that isn’t connected to the 2 national grids. So they can’t bring in outside power. 2. They don’t harden their power facilities against cold weather

Offshore wind is the future here in the UK, and has been responsible for the complete elimination of coal as a power source. We currently produce over a third of offshore power Worldwide, and private and Government investment in this energy production is massive. Money always talks, and economies of scale have ensured that offshore wind is our cheapest source of energy. At the end of 2020, operational offshore wind capacity in the US was 42MW, and the UK 10,428MW. Currently under actual construction, to be finished by year end 2023, the UK will have another 7,116MW capacity, the US 0MW. Words are great, but the action leaves plenty to be desired. Coastal Virginia has a 2,640MW plan at the proposal stage, in 3 phases. It has yet to be approved. Indeed South Korea has had a plan for a 8,200MW farm in Sinan, which is currently out to tender. The UK has a 100% track record on following through with investment on every planning application. We currently have 17,716MW in various stages of planning consent, all with completion targets well before 2030. Typical domestic UK energy needs at the weekend are around 35GB, with weekdays rising to just over 60GB. By 2030, offshore would have capacity for 35.3GB. For all those environmentalists, those figures seem amazing. As a realist, you are rarely going to hit full capacity. For those who wish to rely on fossil fuels, all of the figures above are fact, not opinion. Change is here, and it is rapidly changing our domestic electricity marketplace. Investment is providing results, as the population is very receptive to offshore wind generation, and do not vote for politicians declaring their private donors as Oil/Gas.

Wind turbines are only effective in certain locations in the U.S like Texas and other plains states. They can provide clean sources of energy but need enormous amounts of non-green material to construct. Bird populations are also affected via wind plants and noise pollution is also a negative externality of wind power. The amount of land needed to be used to generate wind compared to solar, nuclear, coal, and natural gas is far larger per sq/km. Void of sunlight or other natural resources, wind power would be more efficient. Other than that it can be costly and inefficient compared to other power plants. The video does bring up good facts about the lifetime of windpower but ignores the maintenance cost and land use for wind power, which results in more cost for the amount of land used.

The term refers to a geographical location of the U.S. Looking at a map of the U.S, the highest concentration for wind power feasibility are located in areas between the Rockies and the Mississippi river (plains states region).

they left out one of the most important pieces of information ; the difference between nameplate capacity and capacity factor . she is telling you the nameplate capacity while the capacity factor is the amount of energy actually produced , which depends on the strength of the wind . offshore wind is half or less of nameplate capacity while onshore wind considerably less . backup dispatch able energy will still be neccessary when wind speed is low or nonexistent . grid scale batteries will cost trillions .
Anyway, nuclear projects take too long to approve and build. A decade or more. Would be good in the 90s but at this point we can't just sit around and wait for nuclear plants to be built. We need other energy sources in the meantime

The wings of an Airbus A380 are childsplay to the size of wind turbines!
Have in mind that when they say "rotor size" they mean the diameter the blades sweep, not the length of each individual blade (or the radius).
In 2011 I worked on a team building the largest blades in the world, with a length of 73,5 meters.
The largest blades today are around 100 meters or almost the length of an American football field (120 yards).
And they produce more electricity than smaller turbines - not just in megawatt capacity but also reaching capacity much more often - as far I remember max capacity 50% of time and producing electricity 80% of times for the best/largest wind farms
I saw a wind farm with huge turbines in a desolate area along a train track I travelled on. I found the huge turbines quite beautiful and mesmerizing. I love to see more of them built!

@@mateosanchez1823 Winter storms regularly happen in the northern parts of the state. Storms like what happened in 2021 are more rare, but it still happens. When i was in dallas, an ice storm was normally a one every year event. The panhandle, where a lot of texas wind is, experiences more frequent freezes compared to the rest of the state

However if you don't winterize your power infrastructure don't then turn around and scape-goat wind-turbines because they failed when you didn't winterize them. The fact the wind-turbines failed had nothing to do with renewable energy. Any powersource can fail in cold weather without proper winterizing. However how much do you want to pay to prepare for a "black swan" event. I think Texas is having those discussions right now.
I can understand why some would not want the wind turbines near their homes due to noise but they also wouldn't want to live near a coal fired power plant so it is probably best to try and place the turbines in an area that isn't so close to peoples homes just like a power plant. Also I heard if the turbine blades are painted a certain way it reduces the amount of birds flying into them.
Its no more noisy then liveing near a freeway; and people do that all across the country!

Here in Tulsa, OK our manufacturing is booming because they build the metal pole sections that hold up the turbine here and our highways are new and large enough to transport the poles around town. It's really a sight to see, they're HUGE.

I'm not sure. People in Europe paying twice or even three times more for electricity. Looking the latest data from the U.K indicates that wind is so unreliable that natural gas is being used to generate around 90% of all demand. Plus, U.K is importing more and more electricity from neighbor countries. What a shame a wealth and developed country importing 11% of its electricity on a regular basis.

a large part of the U.K.'s renewables is Drax which is a consistent generator (Burning wood pellets) but it is completely wrong to categorise it as renewable. More smoke and mirrors from teh government. It's CO2 output per Mwatt hour is far higher than coal due to alower thermal efficiency.
Germany and the U.K. have some of the highest unit costs of electricity in Europe and the world due to these technically defficient souces of power.

Texas lost its power because the state refused to winter-proof its facilities and its electrical grid is totally isolated from the other two major interconnected nationwide electricity grids because Texas doesn't want to be govern by policies other than their own. So now, electricity cannot be directed from other states to Texas causing days of blackouts, pipe burst, and death. Texas is so far south of North America. Do you ever wonder why other states that are far closer to the Arctic aren't as affected by the cold front as Texas?
It's because States above the Florida borderline have a higher degree of anti-ice and winterproofing for all sectors.
*Also, should I mention that all American states without Texas actually work together(Yes even Canadian provinces help American states too) to aid each other for economic benefits?!*

I’m a wind tech, I’ve been doing it for 7 years, we are so understaffed right now it’s not even funny. Our Business is thriving. Brand new guys are making 2k a week, AFTER TAXES. it’s a great paying industry and I love my job. I’m making 3-4k a week and I’m so thankful, I’m 25, my house is paid off, my 2 kids have their college paid for already just waiting for them to turn 18. I love my industry. And were not going anywhere 🙃

I'm still a staunch supporter of nuclear energy. Should be much cheaper and if combined with wind and solar... can reduce the demand on just nuclear energy alone, thus reducing potential radioactive products required to store away.
It's still a strong proponent to get to the zero emission goal. Since nuclear power is the strong power producing technology we have and zero carbon emissions. Modernized nuclear power plants should have severely reduced the number of potential accidents and disaster that is still around on old nuclear power plants that hasn't been shut down and/or decommissioned.

I am pro decarbonizing hence I am pro nuclear power. NP is the gold standard of clean energy. It’s as clean and safe as any alternative, requires a fraction of the resources and produces clean, reliable energy 24/7/365. NP really is the premier example of dematerialization in which we actually use less to produce more.
And we certainly don't add intermittent power sources in order to harden our increasingly fragile energy infrastructure.
When looking at what harm windpower might cause, you should balance that out with effects of current power production.. e.g some part of health issues, deaths, killing of entire species, increasing storms, flooding , droughts and sea level rise..

There's a study made in 2012 I think, that put this into perspective. Coal plants were many, many times deadlier per KWh. Some think like 12,000 to 2,00 per X kWh.

There was considerable opposition to the putting offshore wind turbine farms near Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island, and only recently has the technology for building offshore wind farms has been viable to put it in the deeper waters between the east end of Long Island and Martha's Vineyard.
Wind turbine generators are not a part of a power grid's dispatchable power. The grid capacity is from dispatchable power that the wind turbine generators can substitute for when able to make power. It is wild AC that has to be conditioned to be power grid quality.

Having high temperature generation IV nuclear with heat storage would make wind power more comparable with the needs of the electric grid. Plants like these could produce back up and peak power when wind is have trouble producing power.

I am so glad we are past the point of having to push for renewables in the political space. It is clear that the fossil fuel industry will be driven out of business simply on cost.
I work as energy analyst for a energy company in Texas. The problem is not depending one sources of energy but a hybrid. Solar to match oil, wind to match natural gas or coal to match nuclear. The answer is simply you need a back up to back up, to the back up. Wind doesn’t allows blow and solar sun doesn’t always shine and natural gas or coal is not always the answer.
On the grid where I live in Australia, we have coal and solar and wind and gas. The Capacity Factor of coal is about 60% and the cApacity factor of wind is about 50%. Because the wind so cheap and reliable the coal power stations are closing down. Probably all gone in a few years or so.
As the wind turbines get bigger. so does their Capacity Factor, especially if they are well engineered and large enough to run in geostrophic winds above the atmospheric boundary layer.

The answer to bird deaths are Vertical Wind Turbines (VWT). These wind electricity generators do not change shape and as such are treated by birds as another obstacle to fly around. Also, they generate power regardless of the winds direction. As the grab blades are 360 degrees around the VWT.

My dad used to tout wind energy....over 50 years ago. Pioneer! But we need better storage systems...a better battery to store peak power is needed, perhaps at the end user's place. Note regulatory issues limiting turbines, lol, only in litigious America.

Is wind energy generation cheaper than conventional gas, but in gas, does the transport to the facilities include the transport of the gas through the gas pipeline, or by whatever transport?
I am not sure of actual research, just hearsay. But some Dutch fishers have reported, that while their yield declined after the installation of an off-shore wind farm, it actually increased to pre-wind farm levels because the artificial reef provided a safe zone, that became so diverse, it pushes species out of it. So it might be the case that it helps provide a sustainable baseline. Almost like creating a marine habitat preserve.

All forms of power generation failed not just renewable 🤦🏾♂️. Texas has its mass outage for 2reasons
1 their state is the only state that isn’t connected to the 2 national grids. So they can’t bring in outside power.
2. They don’t harden their power facilities against cold weather

The US gov't is very much "behind" renewables. The federal subsidies (Investment Tax Credit, Production Tax Credit, and others) have been around for over 10 years and are highly lucrative
Nuclear energy is still the way to go.

Offshore wind is the future here in the UK, and has been responsible for the complete elimination of coal as a power source. We currently produce over a third of offshore power Worldwide, and private and Government investment in this energy production is massive. Money always talks, and economies of scale have ensured that offshore wind is our cheapest source of energy. At the end of 2020, operational offshore wind capacity in the US was 42MW, and the UK 10,428MW. Currently under actual construction, to be finished by year end 2023, the UK will have another 7,116MW capacity, the US 0MW. Words are great, but the action leaves plenty to be desired. Coastal Virginia has a 2,640MW plan at the proposal stage, in 3 phases. It has yet to be approved. Indeed South Korea has had a plan for a 8,200MW farm in Sinan, which is currently out to tender. The UK has a 100% track record on following through with investment on every planning application. We currently have 17,716MW in various stages of planning consent, all with completion targets well before 2030. Typical domestic UK energy needs at the weekend are around 35GB, with weekdays rising to just over 60GB. By 2030, offshore would have capacity for 35.3GB. For all those environmentalists, those figures seem amazing. As a realist, you are rarely going to hit full capacity. For those who wish to rely on fossil fuels, all of the figures above are fact, not opinion. Change is here, and it is rapidly changing our domestic electricity marketplace. Investment is providing results, as the population is very receptive to offshore wind generation, and do not vote for politicians declaring their private donors as Oil/Gas.

Wind turbines are only effective in certain locations in the U.S like Texas and other plains states. They can provide clean sources of energy but need enormous amounts of non-green material to construct. Bird populations are also affected via wind plants and noise pollution is also a negative externality of wind power. The amount of land needed to be used to generate wind compared to solar, nuclear, coal, and natural gas is far larger per sq/km.
Void of sunlight or other natural resources, wind power would be more efficient. Other than that it can be costly and inefficient compared to other power plants. The video does bring up good facts about the lifetime of windpower but ignores the maintenance cost and land use for wind power, which results in more cost for the amount of land used.
Lol, no. Windmills are often built on elevations, not plains. Also, the noise is pretty negligible
@@fgsaramago Plain states, where wind potential energy is the highest. That doesn’t mean the windmills are built on an actual plain. The term refers to a geographical location of the U.S. Looking at a map of the U.S, the highest concentration for wind power feasibility are located in areas between the Rockies and the Mississippi river (plains states region).

1. It is not suggested that Wind should be the main source of energy, only a part.
2. I have heard wind turbines (big ones) and they are not noisy at all, unless you live very close to one
3. Bird population, really? The amount of different species getting affected by black energy is 10-100x greater than what wind will ever do.

they left out one of the most important pieces of information ; the difference between nameplate capacity and capacity factor . she is telling you the nameplate capacity while the capacity factor is the amount of energy actually produced , which depends on the strength of the wind . offshore wind is half or less of nameplate capacity while onshore wind considerably less . backup dispatch able energy will still be neccessary when wind speed is low or nonexistent . grid scale batteries will cost trillions .

A gigawatt is not something you create in a day... that's like saying your car can travel 3000mph in a day
Anyway, nuclear projects take too long to approve and build. A decade or more. Would be good in the 90s but at this point we can't just sit around and wait for nuclear plants to be built. We need other energy sources in the meantime

Recently in Newmexico contractors destroyed 69 newer working windmills no reason was given. They said it's someone else's job to take them to the dump.
Even with the availability of different trading options in the market like CRYPTO, STOCK,FOREX etc. It can still be very possible for one to make loss unless they do have the proper skill to do so.
Absolutely right, few years back I recorded series of losses, it's a good thing that I can now make a tangible profits in the market with a sensible investing routine even when it seem difficult and nearly impossible.
