When I opened this video I had no idea how impressed I would be with the visuals with RTX in this game! I literally paused a few times to take screenshots, that's how amazing some scenes look. One day i will be able to buy top tier GPU, and Portal 2 RTX will be the first reason to do so. Thanks for your work and good luck in the future development!
This looks amazing! The dark rooms and the particles on Glados and Wheatley look like they could use some improvement. I'm looking forward to see how this turns out in the future :)
Very nice, Wheatley's eye is perfect! Some people go a bit overboard with adding glow to things, so I'm glad this isn't the case here! Love the eerier lighting too.
At the time of the recording, there was no support for controlling lights with choreo sequences. xoxor4d added support very recently and I can see if I can fix it soon
HEY At some time when i was 8 or so, I had the thought that it would be fun to try and guess and I think that the code should have been G l a d o s Bcuz wheatly said 1.a 2.a 3.a 4.a 5.a ummm... 6.a And glados is spelt 1.g 2.L 3.a 4.d 5.o 6.s So i thought it might.... it just might... Be GLaDOS☺
It looks like they didn't apply the proper material properties for everything for reflections and glare ect. However the fact it's working at all is a feat in itself. Should be a matter of time before everything else is figured out.
I think this is a good testament to how unnecessary rtx really is a lot of the time. Portal 2 already looks phenomenal without it and its barely and improvement here at all.
Most of the map's materials are not replaced other than Wheatley, few types of glass, and water. As for why it looks similar to the vanilla game, portal 2 uses VRAD on map compilation to precalcuate lighting. It's not path traced as seen here with RTX Remix but uses radiosity instead, which gets pretty close. The benefit of RTX Remix is that the lighting is entirely real-time and can replace the game's legacy materials with much higher fidelity PBR maps. This project is in a very early state so what you see so far is nowhere near the final product.
In layman's terms, Portal 2 already has RTX but not in real time. So, having RTX will be an improvement. Also calling this project pointless is pointless as it is still in early stages. Hating new tech is stupid.
@@quintus3236 its not about new tech. i simply think the lighting in portal 2 doesnt benefit from rtx at all, at least in this demo. further work might help, and some later parts of the game might look phenomenal (old aperture likely) but until then, i think it doesnt have any improvment. some games do benefit from ray tracing, but source games, no.

You must be on drugs, my friend.
looks amazing :O, it still keeps the portal 2 feel aswell, cool work from you and the portal 2 RTX team!

Some improvement? How did I get to this mental institution?
this is how i remembered portal 2.
pretty sure everyone else has said this, but neuron activation.
You should quit drugs. It's worse than the original.

Looks vey nice!
You got remix working in the portal 2 branch? Good work.

its not him
Wheatley looks great, but the eye could emit more light and glow some more in brighter rooms.
when Wheatley said let there be light no light turned on?

@@jaketechno2765 no materials are replaced in this map except for some glass models and Wheatley. Project is still WIP
@@CattaRappawill this be in the steam workshop when it's done?
@@jaketechno2765 no this not something that can be uploaded to the workshop
you can see the difference in lighting but thats about it, materials remain the same.
Wait portal 2 rtx is comming!?
It’s unofficial, but you will indeed be able to download this once it’s finished. Or if the developer releases a beta or alpha.
It looks the same but with worse particle effects, honestly
Exactly
This channel is a mental institution.
Portal 2 RTX minimal specs Nvidia RTX 9090
