- A segmented speedrun of the mod "Half-Life 2 with Half-Life 1 Movement" in 37:26.580
This is a modified version of Half-Life 2, developed by sndrec, which allows you to emulate similar movement mechanics from Half-Life 1; it is not to be considered "canonic" Half-Life 2.
Completed in 718 segments (610 normal segments and 108 save/load buffering segments) on Easy difficulty, this speedrun was completed on March 16, 2020.

he's such an OG physicist the world's physics didn't apply to him. that's really the case with source engine: the player is governed by different physics from the rest of the engine's entities.

@@St-bh5oz I don't think it was cheats but geezus did that part really look like cheats(just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, go to the last chapter Dark Energy and when the Breen Chase sequence begins), he really just straight up shoots throw the wall and goes through the building completely. I've never really seen this glitch in hl1 so maybe that's why Im on the fence, but for the most part I'm pretty sure it's legit.
@@jonathanflores1306 It's legit. The bug is called Breenblast and it basically continues the noclip that the prisoner pods enabled (that are normally disabled when you get out of the pod)

The "Credits" command doesn't need sv_cheats 1, and it skips you straight to the end
Couldn't you just start the timer and skip to the end to complete a whopping 0 second "NO CHEATS" speedrun
The final "done a great deal in a small timespan" line always hits different in a speedrun that's less than an hour.

The best part about the Eli noise is that it's an isolated sound file (eli_handle_b.wav), not just at the end of a voice line or something.

how do you guys pick who does what segments? is there a lot of arguing like "i can do this seg better than u" and then they try to outdo each other or is it like animation collabs where they just pick the person's time and thats what they are assigned to
Its not very competative, we usually dont care who gets the segment, as long as its fast, all segments are done in order and everyone tries the same segment at the same time, whoever comes with the fastest time will get the segment, since usually we are focused on getting the fastest time and not segment counts :p
Munted really cool! I didn’t expect everyone to do every part. Can’t imagine how much planning there is to separate each segment. So in this kind of segmented run are you allowed to use any scripts at all, or anything to slow time down?

Combining the best things into each other creating a total glitchfest, I love it.
3:04 - When grandma sends you for groceries, while you are gaming, so you must be quick before it kicks you for being AFK.
The idea makes me think lore-wise. Maybe gordon _did_ age in stasis between HL1 and HL2 (even if not in realtime), hence being much less agile (not counting glitches), slower walking, and having to account for stamina? He can't even swing his crowbar as fast as he used to.

Maybe he was just complimenting him, either seeing him age less than expected (assuming time moves somewhat faster in stasis, but doesn't just zap him in 1 second to City 17 train); or being an old scientist his vision probably isn't great and he likely barely even remembers how Gordon even looked like. Or both.
@@Architector_4 Both HL1 and HL2 had completely different movement mechanics though. HL2's movement was just made to be more realistic. Besides in Nova Prospekt, it is implied that Breen knew about Gordon's time in stasis and he said it helped him develop further "covert abilities", so if anything, Gordon actually improved since his time in stasis.

Well, it was just a quick random theory, based on that fact that HL2 has completely different movement mechanics, which are indeed slower (though still based on the same VPhysics). And that Gordon could develop further anything during stasis only reinforces that he likely did age in there - and then, due to not being as good of a runner and jumper as he was back in Black Mesa disaster times, he had to develop better covert abilities, i.e. adapted to his less agile state.
Still makes sense to me!
I think it's just the difference between the HEV MkIV and MkV. The MkIV was higher-power with better movement assist. The MkV has kinda nerfed by being made compatible with Combine power sources, hence the limited flashlight and sprint.
As for his movement before getting the suit… Well he was late for work. :P

Fair points I guess. Though, HL1 flashlight was also limited, and it's weird how being late for work would make Gordon more sprint-y than an antlion guard chasing after him with full intent to rip gut lol
I can just imagine how the npc’s would react if they just saw Gordon going mach 12 to the next area (Especially the ones in the tunnel at 11:20)

This is actually terrifying, not by the insane glitches but the fact that, this was 4 or 5 speedrunners right? They all did something SLIGHTLY different, right? Yet, the splits are barely visible, i only saw it split like 4 times, but in the ENTIRE run. It shows that anyone with enough experience can split things and people not notice it, which makes runs easily fakeable.
Also the funny prop glitch to skip animations is hillarious, like you get lore and all then just go ''DIDN'T ASK'' and king crimson to another stop
