  • Want to know what the 2022 Isuzu MU-X LS-T 4x4 has been like to live with for six months including towing, 4WDing and more? Watch this video!
    Our key contributor, Mark Oastler, usually spends more time in vans, trucks and utes than anything else - heading up our Tradie Guide section with expert commercial vehicle content.
    But sometimes even the most hardy trucker needs a bit of comfort. So Mark has spent the past six months and more than 10,000km living with the Isuzu MU-X LS-T.
    This is the top-spec model in the seven-seater SUV range - but can you even tell it's based on the Isuzu D-Max ute?
    Mark reckons that he and his family came to really appreciate the no-nonsense, easy to live with nature of the MU-X - and he did all the things you'd want to do with yours, too, including off-road driving (yes, using the 4WD system in the real world!), plus towing a caravan.

    8 months in with mine and I say that the "major active safety features" are truly terrible, an extremely poor implementation. No amount of settings tweaking gave an acceptable outcome for me (dealer says it is all "normal") so I have covered the "safety" cameras. Ironically I now feel safer not having the MUX second guessing me at random and swerving and braking with no warning and for no reason. The removal of the constant and intrusive beeping means no more distractions to take my concentration off the road. Now I love driving it both on and off road and have been astounded at the factory off road ability with no modifications other than a second set of wheels and tyres for offroad use. I strongly recommend people go out and find the limits of the stock MUX before spending thousands on mods (the highway tyres are the first limit), the headlights are also not as good as expected so I added a 24" lightbar and the sound system is not great but is fine for my needs. Dont buy it just for the school run or you wil have DPF issues, like all modern diesels, lots of short urban trips are not good for them.

      @@Pyjamarama11 Armchair expert much? How about you do some research before opening your mouth and announcing your ignorance. Until these "safety" features are a roadworthy requirement of a vehicle, which they are not (in Australia) then there is absolutely nothing wrong with disabling any of these "features" which can be done through the dashboard menu anyway. This was discussed in detail with my insurance company and I have an email stating the same. If you need your car to make decisions for you to be "safe" then I truly hope you dont drive on the same roads as me.

    Yep +1 on the mirror. Just move it to the side so it doesn't foul the sun visor. It's designed to be moved. Also it looks like you have reviewed the 2021 build as it still has that useless plastic bracket in the top glove box, It has been removed in the MY2022. Mine is absolutely as good as you say they are, good review. Some have said the safety features are overly intrusive but I have not found any of them to be an issue. This is my 3rd car with AEB and forward looking cameras for safety so maybe people just need to get a bit more used to the way these systems operate

      We went to Isuzu and they said 12-15months. Mitsubishi was around 8-9months and finally we went to Toyota and got the Fortuner. Just over a 5 month wait, got a great deal. Mid spec GXL with leather & towbar for 60k, that same money would only get us the base MUX. Fortuner also has extra 2 years warranty. The decision was easy.

    Have Isuzu fixed the issues with the cracking front side guards or are they still passing the buck? I was looking at buying one but the price increase , waiting period and too many stupid bells and whistles drove me away from Isuzu. I went to Toyota and test drove a Fortuna and a Prado GXL , Fortuna was good but the ride was a real kidney basher and on a long trip it would rattle the fillings out of your teeth because its built on the Hilux box ladder chassis and the suspension is way to hard if you can live with that then Fortuna is an excellent car. Prado was powerful , comfortable , not over the top with bells and whistles and an excellent touring vehicle . I was lucky enough to put a deposit down on a new Prado arriving in 4 weeks that someone ordered and then cancelled.

      Maybe you should ask if Toyota has fixed the issues with air filtration, fuel filtration, fuel injection, and DPF or if they are still passing the buck. Oh that’s right it’s Australia and people here still pretend Toyota’s are actually better designed and manufactured than their competitors.

    • @evanmiris5765
      @evanmiris5765 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baronvonaux8294 Toyota has actually fixed the DPF issues as well as installing a bigger better turbo. Just like all manufacturers they have inherent issues that I was aware with such as dusting issues but a TERRAIN TAMER Air Box Stainless Steel Shim was an excellent and cheap fix, also installed a quality pre filter fuel filter and a Mann & Hummel catch can and I should have many years of trouble free motoring. I look after and service my vehicles with regular oil and filter changes so my engines always run clean , but the fact that I know the front end of my vehicle is not going to crack and fall off is somehow comforting.

      @@evanmiris5765 ok buddy, you seem like an expert. I must be wrong, and the Isuzu owners club trips must be statistical anomalies. I don’t know of a single transmission failure from the Aisin generation (it’s literally identical transmission to Prado) I’ve only ever seen one CV go from all the trips I’ve been on and have never done one myself. I’ve never heard of or seen any issues with wheel bearings, the only DPF issue I’m aware is people shutting down during burn-off and getting limp mode, all EGR equipped turbo diesel’s have EGR clogging issue (I note you’ve added a catch can to your Prado) and we literally have zero club members that have ever had the cracking issue emerge, and Bluetooth….seriously!? So you could go on, but what’s the basis for your claims? Mine is based of personal experience knowing literally hundreds of Isuzu owners and being on 20+ club trips with many, many vehicles.

    The MUX is the most unrefined and gutless 4WD on the market. Put your foot down & there is a long delay, rough kickdown in gears and a verrry slow acceleration speed. The lack of performance is worrying when needing to overtake on a slight incline. I'd hate to see how slow it is towing a large load up a steep & long hill. Very nice inside & outside, it just a shame it's a dog box to drive compared with its competitors
    Also, on a 35 degree day on Max A/C the aircon barely got cool. I'd hate to drive it on a 40+ degree day. Safety features are overly intrusive or completely useless. Inside & outside of the car is very nice, it's a shame the performance is very underwhelming

      450Kw is around 600HP, are you referring to an AMG G63? The MUX tows fine and accelerates fine, it's a 2.2t 4x4, not a track car. 0-100 is the same as a Fortuner that has 50Nm more torque yet a lower towing capacity and having driven both, and the fact that I spend 2-3 hours per day in the car, I would take the MUX any day, its a much nicer place to be.
