I once at a zoo saw a lesbian African grey parrot pair, the zookeeper explained that one will lay the eggs and the other will guard the eggs and get food, and that they were mates, it was really cool
I had a budgie I raised by hand from an egg. When he got older, I got him a couple of friends. A female plus another breeding couple I had gotten to take care of. Erik the budgie, however, did not care about the female at all and would rather preen and feed Hubert, the other male. And Hubert was completely okay with it as well. So yeah, my budgie was gay, and I loved and accepted my feathered son for who he was, may he rest in peace.

They are not “gay” they are friends. That’s what budgies naturally and instinctively do to show affection towards eachother. They'll do this to anything, even their own reflection in the mirror and siblings/family members.

My dad breeds birds. One time he had a pair of conures that just wouldn't breed. He ended up putting them in a communal cage and the male immediately paired off with one of the other males and the female with one of the girls. I pointed it out to him and said well theres your problem

My budgie is Bi. He lost if gf a year ago, and he has now taken interest in our new male budgie. My mom still refuses to believe, but i've seen them doing the dirty, I know.

we have 3 budgies, 2 males and 1 female.. the males only interact with eachother and now they just ignore my poor female.. (although she seems to enjoy being alone)

I keep a large colony of english budgies, and I had a pair of males that would preen, feed each other, and even mate! They took over a nest box from one of the females when she laid an egg in it, and raised that baby themselves. I put up extra nestboxes, of course, so the female just claimed a different one and went on about her life. Technically, they kidnapped a baby, I guess! LOL. But, to budgies, there's no moral judgement or political agenda. It's all just survival of the fittest. They are amazing to watch in a colony setting! I thought it was beautiful.

I really adore the concept of homosexuality in other species than humans, because it proves what we already know; that homosexual love is a part of nature, and should not be looked down upon as something unatural. the fact that there are more than a thousand different species recorded being able to perform in a homosexual matter, is amazing!

i had a bonded male pair of budgies. even with a female in the cage they only wanted each other.

I used to have 4 budgies 9years ago (rip) I had 2 females and 2 males, I think it hilarious that the males NEVER showed interest in the females and the females never showed interest in the males! There were times when the males would try to mate and at the time I thought “ wtf is going on?” 😂

And I know some people are mentioning the whole "gay by choice" thing and, yeah tho I think the wording could've been a little better, due to the deep rooted emotions phrasing can have on people based on historical context,

given the context presented and keeping in mind that, like you've mentioned, your focus upon writing was more about making a concise presentation of information, it can be easy to extrapolate what you mean

I have replied to others as well. "Gay by choice" was meant to be "Can choose a same-gender partner" not actually deciding that it is gay, and most people understood and will understand exactly what I mean.
Homosexuality in wild animals doesn't occur out of nowhere, they are born gay.
Same thing can be said for gay male budgies that CAN be with females inside a cage, but CHOOSE to be with a male.
One can conclude many wrong things about an endless amount of subjects, and it's not my responsibility if a person is too arrogant to do so.
My budgies keep on cleaning each other and then hate eachother in the same time

My budgie I used to have was bisexual. He had a few partners one was male and one was female. Funny thing is his name was rainbow
mine was used to be gay too… every time I loaned him out to a pet shop to pick a mate for him, he always chose the male ones. When I realized that it was not a coincidence on the 4th time, I decided to take the male one he chose (soon after that i realized they chose each other ❤️). it was true that i wanted baby birds but i was very happy with those two :) I had already bought a nest and wondered what would happen if I don't take the nest from their cage and I didn't separate the nest(which was already prepared) and what I saw after that was REALLY adorable. my son and his male wife started to mating, and even using the nest… the male wife was like he’s incubating in the empty nest and my son fed him aswell. I really loved them. then… Unfortunately my son got sick, and died… he was only 7 years old… me and his wife are really got upset… after his death, I saw the male wife was not ok, and I was unable to buy a new bird, so I decided to give him to someone. even so, he didn't live long... It was the real love I've ever seen in my life. just wanted to tell this to people, nevermind :’)

I have 2 birds, we used to think 1 was male and the other was female until we learned that male budgies have blue noses, so we have 2 budgies that are female. I think i have seen them kissing before though

I had one budgie who was very desired by two other budgies in my flock. When she unfortunately passed away, the two who had been courting her started courting each other. I don't actually know the genders of my budgies, but _something_ gay is going on here.

I had two male budgies, Bill and Frank, they had the most beautiful love for eachother they never fought with eachother and Bill would always protect Frank when scared or when i would open the cage, Bill passed away (he was older) and we saw Frank Grieving to point of no longer eatting or drinking he would just stay in one spot, we will now get him a female and see what happens.

you think that's odd my budgie tried to have it off with my hand at least twice a day and if that didn't work I had to hide the feather duster, also he tried to have it off with both male and female budgies I used to have around from time to time, I guess now we know how Nikola Tesla felt
we bought 3 male budgies abd put them in cages.I heard noises in the night and 2 of them were doing the nasty.Later we bought 1 female and the other male bird didnt give a damn abt her so we replaced her with a male and guess who i found doing the nasty

And he has like fed and preened Shiro (Idk how to say that lol). Buttttt I have another male budgies, Ken, and he's done the same with him and is usually by him most of the time. So I'm confused because it has also happend with my female budgies but only a few times. So idk what's happening lmao.

It happens with female budgies too. I have a cage with only females, and they mostly fight but there is a couple of budgies that really love each other.
My budgie and my cockatiel would kiss, and cuddle, and preen each other.
This is so funny that you posted this today, because I have 8 male budgies and 3 females and two males in particular are always together and showing affection. I told mum last week I think they are gay, then she got another female this weekend that I think will make a cute match with one of the 'gay' ones, but so far he hasn't shown interest and sticks with his mate 😆

(I actually came into this video expecting the answer to be "absolutely", because birds in general are not only way gayer than people think they are, but gay bird couples are reportedly significantly better at being parents than straight bird couples (they either adopt or get a surrogate third wheel involved in order to get babies to raise. )

Homosexuality exists in most animals particularly social species. Sex is far more than just reproduction. It serves a social function as well and it feels good. The argument that animals have a survival instinct to breed so can't be gay is just weird. Humans are animals as well. We have that same instinct, the same the same drives, we are just smarter and can articulate it, thats all, and like our feathered friends, some of us are lgbt. Its completely natural.
I got 6 budgies and two of the boys fed each other once. They also stand next to each other a lot.

My parakeets might be gay because they are feeding and preening each other and I don't think I forced them because I also have a female too...

I always thought of homosexuality in animals being different than in humans mostly because we have a very developed sense of "self" and know what gender is. Birds are much smarter than most other animals so maybe they do have a sense of "self" and gender, but since we can't speak with them it's hard to say. Being gay or straight or anything else is a fundamental part of the "self" for humans so I just never imagined animal homosexuality to be the same. Then again, who knows. Maybe someday we'll learn how to communicate with crows and have a definitive answer. Definitely something I would like to be studied more.

Our male budgies Twinky and Bubi are the sweetes couple ever. We got Twinky at a pet store, where they had an aviary with a small flock. Our other budgie sadly died a few months later, so we introduced Bubi, a pretty small "second hand" budgie, to him. It just clicked. Twinky immediately tried to preen him, while Bubi was kind of confused at first. It was like Twinky had instantly decided, that he would take care of this shy little fluffball.

Yes my jiu and coffee, Jiu likes songs like dreamcatcher songs, Same with coffee. jiu is a girl, She likes mostly every song my sister likes, and dreamcatcher is a girl group. Jiu chirps when i cant stop me comes on or any other song my sister likes. Also my birds support our family, My whole fam cares about our pets.
Being best friends with the same gender does not make one gay. My budgie tries to feed his toys and perches. He would be feeding our Quaker parrot if the thing would not be trying to bite him through the cage. Budgies are very social and live in large flocks in the wild. You have not shown any evidence of actual male to male breeding. Nor female to female to female. Male budgies are just little hormonal beasts but being so doesn’t make them gay. I would be lost without friends that are female but I would never have sex with them. All you have shown is that flock birds like each other and bond.
Well that is kind of true but he already has shown and stated that even in a flock with multiple females, the two male budgies still prefer each other over mating/bonding with the opposite gender. Plus, homosexuality is actually natural in nature, therefore, it isn't entirely impossible for budgies to be gay or lesbian or etc.

Greylag geese and penguins are also quite frequently gay. I also saw two wild parekeet females preening each other and being very close.
I had 4 budgies, I got them when I had 0 experience with budgies, I thought they were 2 males and 2 females. As they grew up and as my knowledge about budgies became bigger, I realized they’re all males. I have 2 pair of gay budgies 💀 I got a female but none of them really bonded with her lol, so im planning to get another budgie for her
