100%. I feel like at this point Michael Giacchino would've been totally justified in just phoning it in. But he doesn't. He turns it up to 11 for the home stretch and delivers some of the best work in the final season. It's truly remarkable, especially considering the turnaround time for network tv shows. (The fact that he didn't win the Emmy for "The End" is criminal.)

Like a nuclear bomb went off in the past and then Swan was built over it in such a way as to mitigate the electromagnetism & radiation. And prepped with a failsafe in case it ever happened again.

We call the off-island stuff the "flash sideways", excited for you to learn more about it! I'll never forget watching this episode for the first time. Broke my brain trying to keep tabs on what seemed the same or what had changed or things that are said that hold so much more meaning. It's so brilliantly done. And oh Sawyer and Juliet with such a beautiful relationship. Josh and Liz did an insanely incredible job. They actually lost the footage of her death scene so Liz had to fly back to Hawaii to film that scene *again*. I personally think that should just have been a sign to keep her around but what do I know. Having to lose her (again and again) is the worst, especially since Jughead got them back to the right time--all Juliet has ever wanted was to go home and yet she's always helping other people get closer to it, unfortunately at her own expense. I was always grateful for how angry Sawyer is because I needed someone on here to represent how I was feeling about it ha. Enjoy your last season of the greatest show there is. I so wish I could watch it again for the first time. Have fun!

They won't explicitly say it but in LaFleur before Juliet is able to help Amy give birth, Sawyer says to her that "maybe whatever made [women not be able to have babies] hasn't happened yet" which was true. But can you guess maybe what did cause that problem? Juliet being brought to the island to fix the pregnancy problem she helped cause 30 years prior via Jughead absolutely kills me. She essentially created her own time loop and fully cemented every moment of her life regarding the island by setting that bomb off.
It was so nice seeing Boone and Charlie again. I remember fanboying like crazy when I first saw them on screen again during the two hour season premiere. Boone and Charlie both served a great purpose with the overall storyarc of Lost.
Yes, Dr. Chang knew everything, in fact if you rewatch the Orientation video of The Swan (The Hatch) you will see the doctor with a hand that does not move, it is the one that was injured in the last episode of Season 5. This Locke turned out to be the black smoke, and he was also the one who took the appearance of Alex to manipulate Ben into doing whatever Locke said. Great reaction Elie. I feel I have to point this out - the title of the episode is "LA X" with a space between the A and the X. It is slightly different from the abbreviation for the Los Angeles International Airport. And there is a reason for that spelling.
One of the small reveals: the smoke monster 🎉 here we go! It's actually crazy that we already know so much about this character. Elie always repeated that the island is the character itself, but so was the smoke monster and now we have some more of it ❤
I have to agree with the other comment. The LAX theme is emotional. The opening scene on the plane was leaked before the episode aired which was a big deal at the time and people had all sorts of speculation on discussion boards Also some of the dialogue was different, like when Cindy gave Jack the extra bottle of Alcohol. He said “It will be our secret” where in the pilot episode he said “this of course breaks some critical FAA regulations”. Even Cindy’s dialog over the intercom was a little different. As for the hatch. Remember the area that was walled off with cement? The part where it pulled the key jack had around his neck? That area was where the “incident” happened. The hatch was always going to be built. Radzinsky was building that model when sayid showed up. It will be interesting to hear your comments on the cinematography this season, especially once we have more daytime scenes. Each season had its own unique cinematography and “feel” to it.
The Smoke Monster reveal was so intense! Some of us like myself kind of figured it out and suspected and speculated it after the season 5 finale. This episode here comfirms what some of us already suspected however the reveal of it was really intense and scary and made it all the more shocking. The soundtrack in this final season alone is insanlely good. When I go back and rewatch previous seasons of the show I realize how much 4D chess Smokie has been playing since the very begining. Smokie has been plotting, manipulating, and scheming with the oceanic survivors since the Pilot episode onwards.

This season was definitely the most controversial season, but I still love it and have tons of nostalgia for it. At the end of the day the show is about the characters, and I think it wraps up the characters really well. I also love how much they dive into the mythology of the island in this season
I can remember having those same thoughts about Juliette. Are we really gunna go through her death again?! Like you said though. It gave James the opportunity to be with her one last time. That scene of the Island being at the bottom of the sea really makes one theorize. The LOST Island of Atlantis initially popped into my head. Love how they keep the mystery of the Island alive. Excited to take this journey with you of the final season.
You were right about Cindy. She is apparently from Australia. It seems that the way she spoke in the opening part of the episode was some sort of glitch in her accent where the actress slipped into her regular way of speaking. Cindy is played by Kimberley Joseph, who was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, so wouldn't normally have an Australian accent. But later in the episode, when she speaks to Sawyer while rushing to help Jack treat Charlie, the Australian accent is back. I think you missed something in that initial scene though. It has to do with vodka.
The ashes around the cabin were to prevent the man in black/black smoke/fake Christian from entering the cabin. I assume it was Claire who opened a space in the ashes so he could enter, which is why Claire was with the fake Christian in the cabin. He was the one who manipulated Locke into moving the island by posing as a messenger for Jacob

The way I see it... James and Juliet would've been doomed if they stayed on that sub. That sub is a giant hunk of metal. The pocket of extreme electromagnetic energy was punctured. Without something to cap it off... it would continue to suck in all metal in an ever expanding radius. And on his own, Jack wouldn't have been able to get the bomb into it... he was outmanned. Jack wasn't wrong to go thru with his plan... it's what had to happen to seal that puncture. The outcome was what was needed... just not the one Jack expected. But there was no better ending if James & Juliet stayed on that sub.
So before commenting on the content of the episode, I believe the actress that plays Cindy is a dual Us/Australian citizen in real life so I believe her accent is always kind of half in and out. This was a pretty strong start to the final season. And yes, they gave us a narrative reason for no Shannon, but there are other characters from the flight not shown as well. It could be safe to assume they are on the plane but the actor was unavailable but.. this is Lost. Maybe. Maybe not. Did you notice the subtle differences besides Shannon and Hurley's luck? Jack for one had a different hairstyle but everyone else had their S1 hair. Cindy only gave Jack one liquor bottle instead of two. And there was a Scotsman on the plane. (just kidding on that last one, I know you saw him ... seriously, WTF Des). Get ready for a ride.
Idk if someone else pointed this out, but Juliet was brought to the island to stop pregnant women from dying. Maybe this was caused by radiation. The theory is that Juliet may have caused the very thing she was brought to the island to stop
This is really where Lost ends. Well not really. But i think is better to take this season as a big ending, an epilogue. Even when they are good moments in it, some misterys to be solved ( if you think about it there is no much to know, ok there is a big time line ha) and a couple of good episodes. Sadly for me, the best of lost already past. Maybe rewatching it will make me change my mind a little bit, hope it is. I didnt count the finale of course, that´s for you to decide. Hope you enjoy the journey, dont do what i did, i was waiting to be blown away, to be surprise by big reveals which never came ( or maybe did). Absorb everything, and take each episode as a way to say good bye to the characters. I think that is the spirit of this season.
I'd forgotten how much of this series I had actually watched until getting further on your reactions to this series. I loved the character writing. What I didn't love was some of the story writing, and some of what you are questioning early in this video, regarding the 'rules' of this Lost universe. I'd love to see it differently, but more and more it seemed to me like the rules are: 1. The island is a magical MacGuffin, that can facilitate anything the writers want, without restriction... It felt like both complex and convoluted, but at the same time, a little lazy... To me. I'm big on logic and I love complex world building. It was complex and that I enjoyed... But the logic kept feeling well, weak. Ok Lost commenters I haven't commented any critiques for some time, so... I know you love this.... And... The only thing a "film student" can possibly learn from "Lost" is how NOT to make, or conclude, a television series, but, of course, one can then move on to what NOT to do with a Movie franchise...
The bomb explodes in 1977. Flight 815 takes place in 2004. For 27 years, all possible actions of the people present on the island during these 27 years have been cancelled and therefore, by domino effect, all the actions that result from these actions, and the actions resulting from these actions, etc, etc. It is therefore normal to have differences with the flight of season 1. Like the absence of Shannon, the fact of not seeing Michael, Walt, Eko, Libby or Ana-Lucia, or the presence of Desmond, since there is no longer an island to be stranded on by boat...or by plane. An other timeline. On the island, you can't live twice but you can die twice. At least in appearance like Juliet. Dying in the last episode of season 5 and in the first of season 6.😁
The most positive thing about this season is that it made Jack likable. This is coming from someone who thinks Jack is a egomaniacal psychopath who should have a restraining order on him for the way he treated any woman he faintly hadan interest in I'm the series, the ex wife especially.
That's called a reaction. He's reacting to what he sees. And I think it's much smarter to stop the episode to react than to stay silent or not stop and miss elements of the storyline.😊

He missed important moments due to this in previous episodes as people pointed out. But it's Season 6 already, I don't think he cares anymore. Even on the last episode of Season 5 he made a reference to this.

Idk if someone else pointed this out, but Juliet was brought to the island to stop pregnant women from dying. Maybe this was caused by radiation. The theory is that Juliet may have caused the very thing she was brought to the island to stop

This is really where Lost ends. Well not really. But i think is better to take this season as a big ending, an epilogue. Even when they are good moments in it, some misterys to be solved ( if you think about it there is no much to know, ok there is a big time line ha) and a couple of good episodes. Sadly for me, the best of lost already past. Maybe rewatching it will make me change my mind a little bit, hope it is. I didnt count the finale of course, that´s for you to decide. Hope you enjoy the journey, dont do what i did, i was waiting to be blown away, to be surprise by big reveals which never came ( or maybe did). Absorb everything, and take each episode as a way to say good bye to the characters. I think that is the spirit of this season.

I always though of the blood on his neck as a callback to 2004 and he in the bamboo. And not related to whatever is happening on the island in 2007.

I'd forgotten how much of this series I had actually watched until getting further on your reactions to this series.
I loved the character writing.
What I didn't love was some of the story writing, and some of what you are questioning early in this video, regarding the 'rules' of this Lost universe.
I'd love to see it differently, but more and more it seemed to me like the rules are:
1. The island is a magical MacGuffin, that can facilitate anything the writers want, without restriction...
It felt like both complex and convoluted, but at the same time, a little lazy... To me. I'm big on logic and I love complex world building. It was complex and that I enjoyed... But the logic kept feeling well, weak.

I know it's like salt in the wound to go thru Juliet's death again. But it was a needed moment for James & Juliet to have together.

The only thing a "film student" can possibly learn from "Lost" is how NOT to make, or conclude, a television series, but, of course, one can then move on to what NOT to do with a Movie franchise...
The bomb explodes in 1977. Flight 815 takes place in 2004. For 27 years, all possible actions of the people present on the island during these 27 years have been cancelled and therefore, by domino effect, all the actions that result from these actions, and the actions resulting from these actions, etc, etc. It is therefore normal to have differences with the flight of season 1. Like the absence of Shannon, the fact of not seeing Michael, Walt, Eko, Libby or Ana-Lucia, or the presence of Desmond, since there is no longer an island to be stranded on by boat...or by plane. An other timeline.
On the island, you can't live twice but you can die twice. At least in appearance like Juliet. Dying in the last episode of season 5 and in the first of season 6.😁
The most positive thing about this season is that it made Jack likable. This is coming from someone who thinks Jack is a egomaniacal psychopath who should have a restraining order on him for the way he treated any woman he faintly hadan interest in I'm the series, the ex wife especially.

That's called a reaction. He's reacting to what he sees. And I think it's much smarter to stop the episode to react than to stay silent or not stop and miss elements of the storyline.😊
@@youtpfpm6097 Totally agree, but what it's hard to agree is "When to pause" He mentioned in other reactions and people suggested to him to at least wait until the scene ends instead of pausing in the middle of the scene interrupting the flow. He missed important moments due to this in previous episodes as people pointed out. But it's Season 6 already, I don't think he cares anymore. Even on the last episode of Season 5 he made a reference to this.
