Unfortunately, our island John Locke was being manipulated to this outcome for a long time. Who told Richard to tell John, during the flashes, that he was going to have to die? Flocke did. And we've already learned that something else, not Jacob, had been occupying the cabin for quite a while. John was being used, even moreso than Ben..

Remember when you were concerned about time travel being introduced and if it would work?

Yeah the show finally gets to its major villain.
I love that the final season starts to get into the core mythology - the monster is a major part of the Lost mythos since the Pilot in Season 1.
I am so happy they came back to that as the main villain for the show and how it is connected to Locke, how it has been playing a long game through all the seasons preparing all the right parts of his plan - he needed to have the right person to embody and the right person to kill Jacob - his nemesis.
All of Locke’s visions/dreams or encounters with the monster, or equally Eko’s encounters with the monster, or Ben’s, or any character that saw a person or thing on the island that shouldn’t technically be there - it could all be viewed as this character deciding which chess pieces it wanted to use for its plan. Looking at each piece and testing them, making them believe the thing it showed to them were maybe for some greater purpose. It completely reframes the show.
I can’t wait to see you react to the rest of the season!

"Good to see you out of those chains” might be an iconic line, but when he said I WANT TO GO HOME and put this face expression, that is one of the most epic moments in LOST, change my mind!

Can we also please just appreciate Michael Giacchino's wonderful score this season? Sure it's been such a huge part of the show thus far but in season 6 he really ramps it up, in my opinion, creating truly beautiful themes for certain locations and characters, especially the LAX theme and also Locke's flash-sideways theme which we first hear in this episode during the scene between Locke and Jack. After 5 seasons he could easily just have used certain themes from before but he didn't. Big up Giacchino! Truly fantastic stuff. 🙌🏻

At this point, when I first watched the show, I was under the assumption, that all the little changes in the flashsideways are because island was nuked in the past (e.g.Desmond is on the plane, Hurley's "curse") and there was no magical touch from Jacob to influence our characters in this timeline. So I personally cared, because these are basically the same people we know. I'm not saying if I was right or wrong, because spoilers, only that I love how everything comes together in the end.

Now that you know that The Ankh was an important symbol to The Others, let's talk about Paul the Dharma guy who got killed by The Others in 1974. There is speculation that he was an Other sent to spy on Dharma but he married one and got her pregnant. The Others seemed like they were trying to kidnap Paul's wife and unborn child, but Paul resisted and got killed. The evidence for this is that Paul had an Ankh necklace that he was very fond of. This is the biggest clue that he may have been an Other. Also Richard insisted on taking Paul's body probably to give it an Others' funeral. Paul's child Ethan was indoctrinated into The Others at some time probably because they felt he already was one by birth. What actually happened to Paul and his wife that day and why Richard took his body are unsolved mysteries of LOST but this is the most common theory.

Agreed. He purposely tells Ben that the something about him that was admirable is that "he knew how pathetic his life was".. No, what made John Locke admirable is that he "believed" in the island (not saying anything more than that for now). The 1 other thing I always try to clear up for Losties is the "myth" that John Locke was a man of faith...this is incorrect. Faith is something you believe in without 'proof' or 'evidence', Locke never had to put his faith in the island, because the island gave him his legs back the moment they crashed.

Terry's performance is undoubtedly great, but it's unfortunate how he managed to be the villain in the last series. I remember very well in the discussion forums the information that Terry O'Quinn was against his character being killed off, he conditioned his participation in season 4 to giving another twist to the story, and even more, he negotiated to stay as the villain for season 6, taking the role away from Titus Welliver. It would have been great to see him as the final villain.
