Thompson Twins just exudes 80’s from every pore. Loads more hits to check out!
They really did define the sound of the 80's!
The video is where it’s at!
Asia & BJ, Their "Doctor Doctor", "Lies" and ""In the Name of Love" are next for you!! I saw them live in 1983, they were the first band I saw who used wireless microphones. Great song!
Everyone forgets those fantastic early hits!
Yes, Definetely - "Doctor Doctor " should be the next reaction. :)
I saw them that year too,at the Hammersmith odeon.
Did you get to that one?
One of the Marshall bins crashed to the floor,no one got hurt though.
@@TheCornishCockney no, I saw them on the other side of the pond. Reflex opened for them. Thomas Dolby was in the audience and I got his autograph!
You forgot about " King For a Day " & " Sister of Mercy ". Into The Gap was the first album I bought and I'd listen to it religiously, when I wasn't listening to Street Sounds Essential Electro Tapes.
"Lay Your Hands On Me" is probably my favorite "hit" of theirs. Definitely check that one out.
YES! ABSOLUTELY!
You are correct, sir....!!!!
Same!
There like about 20 or so British new wave/post new wave pop songs from the 80s that are just incredibly all-time good, and this is one of them. Beautiful lyrics and melody.
My fav. genre of music. Can you list the other 19 more me?

I Ran
Dont you want me
Enola Gay
If You Leave

@@BossDM-2 You've got a damn fine list there. Nice work. I'd add the following tracks:

The Promise
Suedehead

Yes, those and others would be on the list, part 2. You really know your songs from that era. @@thegreatinterpreter8382
I just LOVE the way that BJ reacts to music videos! He is probably one of the most (if not the most) authentic reactors out there!
Asia (& many other reactors) try to be positive about all songs - so as not to hurt some of our feelings (& I appreciate the nice thought on that ).
BJ doesn't care whether he upsets anybody (😄) he is giving his honest reaction - & the best, most authentic part are the visuals. BJ starts just sitting & reading the lyrics. Next if the sound is starting to sink in, he starts to move his shoulders a little - just a little. Then, there will be the nose crunching up &/or the 1/2 smile - from 1/2 of his face. Next the head starts getting into it, nodding up & down or swaying side to side (or both) - the more exaggerated the movement, the more that he liked it. We get a really good, honest reaction from BJ before he even opens his mouth!
Asia doesn't want to hurt anybody so she smiles & moves a little bit for all songs it seems. There are times though where it is obviously more authentic- such as in this one.
Thank-you both.
The vocalist is a hopeless romantic. Back then, when artists express their feelings through a beautiful song. The 80s were loaded with talented artists and the Thompson Twins is no exception.
I saw this band back in the late 80s. Gotta say, that woman was a mega talented percussionist! She was the highlight of the show. I figured they were some manufactured band but boy was I wrong! They were very talented.
"I feel like I'm going to be singing it for the rest of the day"... Girl, it's 2 years later - I bet you still singing it!
Classic 80s new wave British pop fabulous!!! Their biggest hit in the UK was 'You Take me up' which reached number 2 in 1984 from their multiple platinum album 'Into the Gap' check out that song if you can you won't be disappointed!
Shivers of nostalgia.... Cool summer nights and good music from the 80's.....
They were actually a new wave act and were known for their funky club music back then. The bass in this song is one of their signature sounds. It was only 3 of them.
singer said he wrote this song quickly about a spat that he had with the percussionist of the band about making the album and they wanted to make up together.😊👍
80s amazing classic! This song exudes 80s and its timeless! ❤
Takes me right back to Christmas 83, i was 17 and absolutely loved this song. For me it's their best by a mile, but all their songs were great, so many to choose from, i hope you do a few more of them. The Thompson twins were the most underated band of the 80s, i think.
Exactly the same for me.. If only we could go back eh?
@@kevcall Yeah, if only 👍🏻
This song is in my top 20 songs of the 1980s, you guy's have great chemistry, very entertaining.
80's New Wave! Its been a loooong time since I've heard this! Awsome!
One of the best songs from the 1980’s
Asia & BJ Thompson twins "in the name of love" enjoy listening to you thanks JP peace be safe
Asia n BJ - listen to the thompson- In the name of love. 80's groove dance song there first single. song one of there best song. It's a jam thanks peace be safe jp
My sisters played this album a lot when it came out. Now it is a sense memory of being 11.
Oh man, one of the great songs of the 80s, and an excellent band as well. And yes, there's 3 members and no twins - they're named after the twins in the TinTin children's books. Great sound, killer groove - great song choice as always you guys, peace and love!☮
This is such a great song. The line “I’ll ask for forgiveness but I don’t know just what I’m asking it for” was always a standout lyric for me. Such a great line that I think most can relate to.
BJ said "women can be cold and calculating". Hah, you have no idea.
Years ago, my friend's girlfriend left him when he was at work, on the same job as me.
We he got home, he discovered she had backed up a U-Haul truck and cleaned out their entire apartment.
Nothing but bare walls and carpeting left.
The woman even took all of his clothes.
20+ years later, I still can remember his shocked expression on his face. Lol.
@Athos...damn!!
Oh snap! This is a good band. "Doctor, Doctor" "Lay Your Hands On Me' "If You Were Here" "King For A Day" "Love On Your Side" "You Take Me Up" "Lies" "We Are Detective" are good ones to check out.
Yes! One of my faves! Keep On Rockin'
The Thompson Twins were actually a trio ( 2 guys and a girl ) the band took it's name from 2 characters ( The Thompson Twins ) who featured in the Tin Tin cartoons
God makes me feel old ..83 was the best year for UK bands...TOTP days .
The Thompson Twins were and still ARE, a fucking brilliant group. This was their biggest hit and hence everyone reacts to it, but they had so many other hits that are all fantastic that seem to get ignored by reactors: Sister of Mercy, Love On Your Side, Doctor! Doctor!, You Take Me Up, Lay Your Hands On Me, Lies....
The Lead singer and one the band members was dating at the time.♥️
I see we have returned to the absent Official videos which would greatly enhance everyone's appreciation of this song...
I saw them at Exeter University students bar in 1980 ... those were the days of 'rock goes to college' for new and old bands ... loved them
I love this song ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Aaaah! The nostalgia! Love ❤️
You should check out their videos. You'll be pleasantly surprised at their talent and diversity.
A lesser known hit but INCREDIBLE song is You Take Me Up.
My favorite song from the Thompson twins and a góod song from the 80s.
Love this tune... I used to play the Twins a lot when I was a night club DJ.... It worked well with some Howard Jones, Orchestral Manouvers in the Dark and Depeche Mode
Music I listen to without thinking about it....love that I was born in London.....we are blessed.
My favourite Thompson Twins song just ahead of Doctor, Doctor. Although they were the Thompson Twins, there were no twins in the group. Lead singer Tom Bailey was from England. Female vocals were provided by New Zealander Alannah Currie. This is the typical 80's sound and a great song. Glad you guys liked the song. Awesome reaction Asia and BJ ❤️
And Londerer Joe Leeway, from Islington , North London,
@@sallybannister6224 Yes 💯. Forgot about Joe. How dare I!!! 😂
Wife here...Amazing quentissential group of the eighties..Very talented.."Lay your hands on me" another great one from this band.. Truly appreciate your insight and you guys are so darn Adorable together!
I never thought I'd say that the Thompson Twins are part of the soundtrack of my teenage years, but facts are facts....
I saw them live at The Paramount in Seattle, WA in the early 90’s. They are a 3 member band and play a ton of instruments. They are great live. Thanks for what you do. 🎈💜🎈
One of my absolute favourites from the 1980's!!!🇬🇧🇬🇧😁
Just a great song.
Regardless of the interpretation I loved what you both did.
The percussionist was from New Zealand. My neighbour as a Australian.
Tom and Alannah, the two who founded the group, actually tried to "stay" together, They were married for like 20 years. Since divorced and both have remarried. Shame that love can't last forever.
Yes 👏 Thompson Twins…. 80’Rocked ,Great music 🎼 good times ….
TT was at the craze of the New Wave genre singing songs with catchy hooks and giving basic electronica backings with simple beats. Unlike a lot of the Punk that transitioned into New Wave, TT was more Pop than Punk and so their songs center around emotion and relationships instead of rebellion and politics. King for One Day might be my favorite of theirs, though it would take a revisiting of their entire catalog of songs to be sure of that as I do recall buying several of their albums.
Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel...Policy of Truth by Depeche Mode...Your Love by The Outfield...Just Like Heaven by The Cure. 80s BABY!
Not sure how they got the name Thompson Twins. None of them looked the same. One was a girl with colorful and blonde mohawk. The other was a black dude with long braids. The other dude was white with had red spiky hair. They all dressed crazy and colorful, typical of new wave punk groups. Lol. Anyways, they were very good group and kind of funky too. Lot of new wave, post-punk has good bass guitars.
They were around the '80s til early '90s. Had some good songs and videos. "Doctor! Doctor!", ""Love On Your Side", "Lay Your Hands on Me", "King for a Day", "Come Inside", etc
A very talented Band in the 80s. Their Albums are real good. They stood out pleasantly from the pop monotony. Can still be heard well today.
The best of the new wave bands in the 80s. Beautiful lush sound. You'd love The Eurythmics if you need haven't already reacted to tjem
Im so surprised that this rare gem is being reviewed. Thank you.
You guys are great together.
Thanks for sharing. This song takes me back.
great great song, the 80's, the time of my life, the greatest decade of music ever.
Side Kicks and Into the Gap, two Thompson Twins albums, are some of the best of 1980s new wave pop.
"Lay your hands on me" Is prime! You'd like it.
This is a nostalgic one for me. Thompson Twins was my band back when I was a kid. They have another song that I love very much called Lay Your Hands.
this was so catchy back in the day
Great song from the 80s... Love it!
Some feel good '80s vibeage
How many were singing “in your lovin arm” and other extra in the first choruses?!?
Great song, great band. Dr,dr. If you were here, king for a day, love is on your side, lies, lay your hands on me, sister mercy…
Next Thompson Twins: INTHE NAME OF LOVE
i saw tom bailey play in july....flipping brilliant
Watch the official video so u can see how the make all the unique sounds that your ears are hearing you’ll be blown away!
Thank you guys once again for playing the soundtrack of my life. Sometimes you have to beg
Another Great British 80s Band.
In the Name of Love, Doctor! Doctor!, Lay Your Hands On Me, Lies (probably their biggest hit), Love Lies Bleeding, Love On Your Side and If You Were Here which was featured on the 16 Candles movie soundtrack. It's the outro song for the movie when the credits start rolling.
Another classic from the 80’s.
Definitely check out “Doctor Doctor.”
Please watch the video you'll get a truer essence of the band and the song, these guys we're very very popular in their day, great band
Joe Leeway on backing harmonies kills it!
Hello guys! Oh nice song here from back in the day. I remember when this first came out on the 📻 radio. Loved it, still luv it. Rock on guys!!¡ RIP Jamie D. This song always reminds me of my cousin who took his life at 21. Luv you guys reactions
You guys are so fun. Thanks for this! God bless you both!
jr hi dance...just getting ready to be in highschool. wow , what a memory.
thanks as always !
One of my top 5 80's songs.
Magical Alternative 80s Pop ❤❤❤❤
One of the reasons '84 was a great year for singles.
this just takes me back to the 80,s blimey 40 years ago. thanks for the react
Among the best songs of that decade!
I'm adding my vote for "Doctor, Doctor" as your next reaction. It's my favorite song of theirs.
My sister was 3 years older than me, and growing up in the 80's, this was one of her favorite bands, and they rubbed off on me. LOL "King for a Day" is another of my favs, great band, with a cool sound, and a unique look.
80's was the BEST!
You guys are on a roll today - great songs you chose to react to - thanks!
Imagine being 14 and having this appear for the 1st time ever on a television set that was as large and was still considered a piece of furniture more than a mere appliance. Something worthy of discussion if the occasion merited it.
Man, y'all gotta go back to their first album.
Love on your side, Wish you were here. Tears, it was just a really good album.
Give it a try.
Good one as always
The 80's was the last of real music in America.
I feel privileged to have grown up in them.
Awesome song, reminds me of roller skating back in the day!
Another huge hit back in the ...1980s. Love this song.
They were GREAT live back in the day!
Yeah, the 80's, loved them!
I love that part at the end where they go higher pitched. My favorite part.
OH LOVE THEM!! Too many good songs to choose, lol
I never realized how many different genre's of music I've listened to or how many concerts I've attended until I found your channel. I went to this concert...they opened for Duran Duran. They threw a bunch of big inflated beach balls into the crowd and tried to get the crowd to keep them in the air the entire time they were on stage. I think 2 of them made it. lol. I was pinned against a barrier when everyone rushed the stage...I was taken back stage and I met the band and they gave me their autographs.
Wasn't that woman incredible!!!!
My favourite by them is Sister of Mercy….tells a story
The first time I heard this dong was even it first came out. That was the eighties, while I was in high school. It's their best song.
High school dances circa early 80s. My god ! Where has time gone. I signed my Will tonight. Kill me know 😂
This came out shortly after I met the woman who was to become my wife, together now for over 42 years. I always thought it captured what I felt when we first met
Just written the same thing. Sort of. But without the lengthy marriage. Congrats.
Possibly my top 5 at or around 7th grade. I was totally into the Thompson Twins back then.
I was 10 years old when this song came out… didn’t mean much to me but now that I’m old and married…it means so much!!
Saw them @ Live Aid!!! ❤️🔥
SAVE IT FOR LATER is a great track to check out.
