    mrs. Cog, I’m looking through your digital downloads on your site. And I can’t find pink in the garden. I see yellow in the garden. Do you still have the pink?

      Ahh, Gayle you remain my confidence coach! Whenever I am stuck for any answer or delivery in the junk journal world, I ask myself what you would do. It always supplies the right answer. Love your videos, and I always learn something new from each one it seems. Thanks for sharing. I have the Tim Holtz distress ink I just have never known how I wanted to use it till now. I have recently started tea dying paper and getting into journal making. I have just started my first vintage style journal and it will be a gift for my friend. Her mother was a Rebekah and so she brought me vintage leaflets and booklets from their meetings from the 70’s. I am excited to work on it and I am learning a little history in the process. Have a great day and thank you again for sharing your ideas.

    Dearest Mrs. Cog... All you creative ladies are so inspiring. And I just wanted to let you know that I am a big fan of your JJs and processes. Thank you for such a nice video. I so enjoyed all your tips while you were working away... it was quite soothing and informative. I do not have a channel yet... hopefully soon :) I live in a pocket where I do not get a good signal. I can watch easier than I can communicate. Again you're much appreciated... with over 5000 views; I guess I spoke the obvious. :)

    Hi...I'm a new subscriber...Thanks for all you share! I found that the rayon and cotton lace trims take the dyeing really well but if there is polyester in the trims; which is really plastic, I have the same problem...They resist the dyes. I think natural fibers drink up the coffee, tea and avocado dyes really well. Just a tip : I read the trim labels to see how much poly is used or if it even contains it. Then I know whether it will absorb the dye ahead of time! :)

    You make everything look and feel so cozy. I adore your vids. I am a faerie lover (have two faerie gardens outside (including gnome areas), and I get so much enjoyment out of putting things together (and yes, I love to buy faerie things for them too--irresistible) for my faerie gardens like rock piles and flags and flora set ups. But that adorableness has been complete (mostly--every year I add an item or two) and I've been knee deep into my art more and more. Being retired I have much more time to spend and currently journals are my thing. I have been excited at the sheer number of vids on the subject and I especially love yours. Everything you do is amazing and talented. I finally found some sequin and embroidery pieces from India. I got around 40 different "tapestries" about 6-8" long by 2 1/2" (obviously cut from a garment or something) and your recent vid on making tags or little hanging things on a large safety pin from these gorgeous segments was absolutely inspirational for me. I got a Brother sewing machine at the Mission store here in AZ for $10 (it was 1/2 off day too! haha) and it has more stitches than I know what to do with. Like others, I'll likely just use zigzag and straight stitches. Mind you I've not sewn since I was 28--a veerrry long time ago. But I found my model machine online and was able to download and copy the whole manual. I have been teaching myself all over again. I love the way stitched things look in the journals. I made a sweet cotton skirt with an overlay of organza for one of my quirky characters (also learned from you with my own spin on it.lol. ) I made my Natl. Geographic journal following carefully the steps you did and it turned out wonderfully. So thank you thank you, Elizabeth. XOXOJane

    You should try to dye your lace with turmeric and rust it works beautifully I add a little vinegar a little salt then boil it for an hour and let it set overnight the next day you get up everything is a different guy try a small amount of lace at first to see if you like it, I love what you do

    I've loved this chat! Thank you for sharing your talent and tips here!
    One thing you might want to try out for some of your "aging" is the Rit tan dye. I've used it instead of tea on fabrics that I wanted to soften the appearance of, but not for paper yet.
    I've just gotten the idea, but haven't tried, to use some wild-crafted botanicals instead of the expensive tea bags. We live in the woods, and you may have access on your little peninsula, as well. A list of natural dyes would give the colors of different leaves/flowers/berries/seeds, etc. I love your art!

    Hi Liz,
    Since you asked about what we might want to know more about, I thought I would ask you about your covers that you stitch. I am wondering if you sew a collage together and then glue or if you sew your collage pieces right onto the cover or is every cover different? I enjoy your videos and seeing your journals. Also, what do you use to make your videos, because you usually just do a series of still shots without all of the discussing that many others do on TH-cam for journal making?
    Have a blessed day!

    • @MrsCog
      @MrsCog  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chrissie - for my quilted look, fabric pieced covers like the one I just posted called "Stormy Weather", I sew the various shapes of fabric together, then back the whole thing with a sturdy canvas and zigzag along the top of the seams for effect. Then I cover the journal as I would with any single piece of fabric. I use Photoshop and Windows Movie Maker programs to edit and construct my videos. :-)

    It's Mrs. C!!! Yea!!! There is definitely something soothing about distressing. One thing I have done with trims: mix vintage photo re-inker with some water in a spray bottle, then spray on your laces ( i use a lot of the same ones you use). You can vary the intensity of the color according to the amount of water you use. If you try it, let me know if it worked for you! I'm pretty impatient so that saves me time. :) Love hearing your voice!!!

    The ink refills are great. Lol, yesterday I watched your sewing video and saw your magnetic dohicky. Many years ago I had the little sewing magnetic thing for pins. Well, I dropped your video and went right out and purchased one. Mine is a rectangle one. I used to love my old one, especially for tweezers. I used to go through tweezers like crazy, I would lose them everywhere and I just loved that thing! I never lost my tweezers again. I think I am going to go out today and purchase a second one to keep at my sewing table. Thanks for all the great tips. 💙💚❤️

    I love your planner! I’m a gnome fanatic and the other day at hobby lobby I got the cutest gnome stamp on clearance. I also have a German children’s book about gnomes that I’ve been hoarding for ages. I used a few of the pages, begrudgingly in my winter TNs. 🤣
    I really enjoyed your video! Tfs 💜💜

      Dolly, you are a big inspiration behind my decision to use gnomes (and my hoarded picture book ilustrations of them) in my upcoming journals. You also were my deciding factor to invest more heavily in botanical forest ink stamps. I loved your winter TN's. Thanks so much for all the wonderful sharing you do! Hugs!! :-)

    Love the image of that gnome with a deer...is it a digital that you have or was it from a book?

    • @shadowgirl815
      @shadowgirl815 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lisa...I am pretty sure that image is by Rien Poortvliet. I'm not sure which book but I think the character's name is "David the Gnome" :) Mrs. Cog does have a gnome set in her Etsy shop...not these images...but they are just as adorable :)

    • @MrsCog
      @MrsCog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the gnome images are from the books Gnomes and Secret of Gnomes by Wil Huygen. They are very expensive new, but if you search and watch eBay you can often find them for $10 or less. :-)

    It's always great to meet the maker of these creations. Omg! Teachable!!!! Can't wait for a class. It's the little things like you showed today that are important. When I get your journals I visually tear it apart looking and wondering how you do things. I would love to see a series on how you put a journal together from start to finish. Learning the techniques from the masters should help inspire others to use those techniques to create their "OWN" style. Sometimes not knowing how to do things, stops others from becoming masters in their own right. Thanks Liz for this little snip it into Mrs. Cog's world.💕💕

    • @MrsCog
      @MrsCog  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CJ, aside from being extremely grateful to you for all your support and kind words, your feedback is so valued. I had to laugh when you said "learning from the masters" lol... like how to stop sewing the band-aid on my finger to the button I just stitched on the tab?? LOL Or how to get Fabri-tac glue off the cat? Hahaha When I'm a bit more at ease making videos, maybe I'll do a "Cautionary Tales for Crafters" video. Big Hugs!!! :-)

      That's so sweet Patte, thank you. Just dive in! In truth, when I make a mistake, often what I do to alter that or modify the original plan becomes better than it would have been if it was done perfectly. The joy is in the doing and creating. :-)

    Lovely to see and hear you at last! Looking forward to your upcoming tutorials. When you do your coffee dyeing tutorial, please will you explain something that I haven't been able to find anywhere: that is, how to coffee/tea-dye envelopes and pockets etc., without the front sticking to the back. Many thanks for all the inspiration you share.

    • @MrsCog
      @MrsCog  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Diane. In all honesty, I haven't tried tea dyeing envelopes. I have only made small ones from paper already tea dyed. But it's an excellent question. :-)
