  • Replacing a blower motor in a generation 2 Prius. Also location of cabin filter.
    Possibly one of the easiest jobs to do on a Prius.

    Good tips. Took about 15 minutes total including cleaning the condensate tray and replacing the filter. Saved the old motor and will buy new brushes and keep swapping them until the car dies. Prefer the Japanese original fan to the aftermarket.

    • @eby6114
      @eby6114  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds ridiculous but if it's brushes for the electric motor are going out just slapping the glove box can jar it (the blower motor) into working temporarily. Usually if it's a relay only one of the speeds quit. You can also try other can speeds by removing it from auto and try slower speeds. If this restarts it then go ahead and replace the blower. They're cheap even buying it new.

    Is this the thing that howls/whines? I have an issue where something behind the glove box intermittently moans. Some people have said something about a baffle that opens and closes the vents that might be causing it.

    • @eby6114
      @eby6114  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd first just check the filter first. It seems like a design flaw but mine allowed a ton of tree debris to come in and there was probably at least a cup of dirt pollen etc in front of my filter

      @@eby6114 The first thing I checked was the filter. But my car is garaged, so no leaves and its clear. Even so I am sure the loud moaning is something mechanical. But man your response was really fast. So thank you very much!

      @@eby6114 Problem is it will go a week and nothing, then it goes off all the time. The issue is more likely to happen if I brake pretty hard. This seems to take some energy from this fan. I didn't see anything wrong with the fan. At one point I tried some WD40 but doubt it did anything. Some say its a baffle that opens and closes the vents. Its happening more often. When it is consistant I will open it up again.

    • @eby6114
      @eby6114  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Are you looking for heat or cold? If it's heat sounds like your electric pump isn't working but when the engine is on a mechanical pump is moving water. If it's cold your looking for let me know

    • @eby6114
      @eby6114  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah I think your right that the actuator door motor is probably stuck. It's not an uncommon problem. You can try to access it and free it up manually. With the engine not running coolant isn't circulated, door is still open. When the motor runs circulating the coolant then you can feel it. For temporary you might manually open/close the door with a lawnmower throttle control cable for like 10 bucks or so. Whatever works best for your situation. Amazon has some nice looking ones. Not sure what an actuator motor cost. I just priced a idle control bearing parts for 267.00 before tax. I decided to just replace the bearing for 50.00 why are people so greedy these days

      @@eby6114thanks again and I agree there is too many greedy folks out there. My car is over 17 years old! Will the dashboard need to be taken apart? Could it not be a faulty compressor not running off the engine?

    • @eby6114
      @eby6114  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@alphaomega7868 I believe it's behind the climate control module...the heat AC controls. It's attached to the air tubes. AC compressor work off electric motor not engine motor. You wouldn't want to mess with that anyway. I know some people take apart the flap motor lube it and all is well. You might climb into the floorboard with the car on and change the hot cold mechanism to see if you can hear the mechanical noise of it to pin point it's location. It should take much effort to remove the cover of the climate heater AC cover lower dash area.

    The screws on my blower motor are T25. I just finished replacing the motor for the third time over several years.
    FYI it is easy. I have very limited dexterity in my right hand (cerebral palsy). So I basically did this with one hand. Another post was right. It takes about an hour.
    Hints:
    1. When installing the new motor, replace the screw closest to the passenger seat first. The other holes will line up perfectly.
    2. After reconnecting the power cord to the motor be sure to put the two wires in the small slot on the bottom cover of the motor housing.
