      if the technology for AI (no pun intended) continues to advance, we need to have drones/robots calling the games instead of humans who could always be partial and/or limited. The kind of controversial calls are all over the places, and personally that's when my interest in watching the games start to decline.

He didn't retire from the NBA in 2010, he played for the Grizzlies for a little bit before quitting on the team for "personal reasons" and when he tried to come back he didn't like the terms and conditions that teams were asking of him and "retired" officially in 2013.

    As someone old enough to have lived and watch AI's career live, most people believed that the refs had it out for him. I don't remember anyone outside of the usual talking heads on ESPN downplaying the situation. Real NBA fans and insiders knew what the deal was.
    Also, the idea of a retirement tour season wasn't commonplace during that era. So the idea that the league didn't showing him extra love during his last season doesn't really hold any weight. Nobody got that treatment during that era.
    A.I. is and will probably always be one of the NBA's best players and easily one of the most transformative players who ever laced up.

    • @Affectionateflower
      @Affectionateflower 4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      We were blessed watching one of the greats play. I remember the 1st day of Winter Break in 9th grade back in 2007 the 76ers were playing without Iverson while they waited for the Nuggets trade to go through. New fans just look up his stats online, yeah far from how great and inspirational he actually was.

    • @africadondada6555
      @africadondada6555 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      AI didnt get a retirement tour cuz nobody knew he was done. He coulda played for 3-5 more years as a spark off the bench but he was a starter or bust

    • @simsik4149
      @simsik4149 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Affectionateflower too true. All those players went out on vastly different terms than Iverson though. Nobody knew that his last season was going to be his last season. He could have played a few seasons in Detroit but his refusal to come off the bench pretty much ended that. My point was more that most players during that early 2000s era didn't get the elaborate farewell tours that we're used to seeing in the current era.

      @@Israel-nb7ip All this was made-up or caused by people who didnt like him. AI was a really nice guy, but the NBA executives, coaches, and basically everyone else who wasn't a fan or player treated him with disrespect.

    • @Israel-nb7ip
      @Israel-nb7ip 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@gingerspice8921 not true at all. Denver traded AI for Billups cuz they realized that he wasn't a good influence on the young players with his lifestyle. AI refused to come off the bench as a 6th man for BOTH Detroit and Memphis to the point that both teams waived him. When Philly got him back, he left them after a few weeks to deal with a personal family matter. Even when Larry Brown, who was coaching the Bobcats to their 1st playoffs, asked Jordan if he could bring in AI to help the team's scoring MJ refused because he was concerned about the influence he could have on the team chemistry and the young players. These are facts, not made up shit. AI's own mindset kept him from winning a ring. If he had committed to being a 6th man, he could've helped that grit and grind Memphis team that had Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, Mike Conley, Rudy Gay, Tony Allen, etc get over the hump and make a Finals. But he refused to play unless he was a starter.

    I think one of the biggest miss on this video is the fact that Allen Iverson has the perception of not respecting authority (ie Coaches, executives, law enforcement, etc). Not just from his High School incident where he was briefly imprisoned, but also dealing with his anger management issues with his ex-wife, coaching staffs and other players he did not get along with. Do we have to bring up his racists rant against White, Gays and Asians? Nor do we tried to forget about him carrying gun and driving around looking for his wife's boyfriend. Those were some dark days the NBA wanted badly for people to not remember Allen Iverson. How many coaches besides Larry Brown that gave up on him? Do we even want to talk about his lack of networking where no one wants to give him an opportunity to coach or a front office job with some NBA team? No one in the NBA wants to offer him a "face" in some sort of community program like they did for Dikembe Motumbo or even Tracy McGrady. No one in the NBA is trying to promote him because of his lack of respect towards the authority during his NBA playing days. It's not just David Stern or the refs he has problem with. Iverson has problems with the diverse paying public, coaching staff, and his own teams he is being employed to. Oh, let's not also forget about his gang affliction he is proud to associate with. Those things are some the issues the NBA would like people to forget about Iverson. If people only remembered the rant about the practice, it's a pure win for both Iverson and NBA. That's the least of what people remembered about Iverson.

    More so than anything it was the media and ESPN. Anyone who really watched basketball knew Allen Iverson was a beast. The "practice" line was a media hit-job, the media protected Kobe. Allen Iverson was considered a ball-hog with seven assists a game with a team that had Carmelo anthony on it. It didn't match with what the NBA wanted in it's poster men to thirty year old casuals who called him a "thug". Never criticized his team. But Kobe did that shit all the time and AI was the selfish one.

    Iverson is and underrated good guy. Remember when kobe passed? A lot of fans, started saying we should appreciate our legends more. And I remember one of the post was about appreciating AI because all he does now is attending NBA games and showing love. And if you watch All The Smoke, Stephen Jackson even said that AI calls him almost every other week to tell him he loves him. Isn't that kinda the opposite of how the media has painted him? So much respect for The Answer 🙌🏻

    FINALLY someone spits facts about the Iverson NBA journey. The league was rigged back then, remember the Sacramento- Lakers WCF in 2002? Allen Iverson was Stern main target mostly because he was never the kind of guy you can control. He didn't dress like a lawyer or he wasn't the guy you want to put on the McDonald's commercial, but the NBA makes A LOT of Benji's out of his image and basketball plays. Now the league is changed, the actual generation grows up worshipping AI, he's a legend. That's something bigger than a ring.

    totally agreed on this.. No Disrespect to Kobe and i Love Kobe as one of the greatest player of all time. But A.I. is the most impactful player of this generation and for me one of the most unique player in NBA history after MJ...that is why the NBA get rid of him too early on his career. Look at the current players of NBA right now they all pattern their play style to him..the crossover, dribble magic, quickness, scoring abilities esp on the guard positions. 90s to early 2000s kids truly knew this. For Me A.I and Vince Carter truly made a huge impact in the game of NBA as they set the standards of the athleticism on the court. Set aside MJ/KB/LBJ as they are HOFs and icons already. But this 2 for me really change the culture of NBA.

I source it back to David Stern... that cretin was the worst kind of commissioner, due to his favoritism towards specific markets and players... I know it might appear to be bad form, speaking about a dead guy in such a way, but... f××× David Stern!

    Don't get it twisted: for all his skill Allen Iverson was difficult and made lots of mistakes. He also did a lot of good and much of it wasn't heavily reported. He's a complicated individual and let's face it - he got turned into kind of a cartoon character by both a lot of fans and detractors alike - he's either the coolest guy in the world and every bit of criticism or backlash from either a coach, a teammate, the league or the media is totally 100% unwarranted or he's a "thug" and a "diva" etc. The truth is a lot more nuanced, but our culture doesn't do nuance very well.

They were mad because he was kinda like a street basketball player who brought the and 1 culture to the NBA and they hated that ...also I actually think when he crossed over Michael Jordan their Golden Man at that time was kinda like nah bruh you don't touch MJ he touches you . But he threw that out the window and gave him some ...with that crossover ..I think that pissed off the NBA
