- Another windy day in Welly! Couple of good ones here... Qantas B737-800 go around, Air NZ ATR takes big gust on short final and Sounds Air Caravan battles out in to the Northwester gusting 50 knots.
Great video, thanks for not ruining it with music.
Wow! Well done getting this up on the same day. I was on one of those ATR flights from Christchurch... not the worst Wellington landing I have experienced but still got the adrenalin going.
bless the pilots and family's of them who have to perform these take off and landings. the skill it would take.
i took off from wellington on this day heading back home to auckland! it was crazy! flight was delayed 6 hours and still the take off was scary after watching other planes take off and land!
Great stuff, I just knew you would be down at the airport!
All in a day trying to land at our airport. Wgtn can offer all types of landings or not lol.
High winged aircraft are more stable than low wing types, it all depends on how quick the pilot responds to the turbulence. I regularly fly in a C-172 in 7 bft winds and its no problem but you have to be on top of the game.
Very cool video!
I flew out from Welly that day and that was bad enough !
The 1st 1 happened to my flight on Sunday morning around 12
It landed at 2:37 in the video. Besides, a 737 wouldn't have enough fuel to make it back to Melbourne.
This was filmed on my birthday
This is where I learned to fly and earned my pilots license.. LOL!
Is it possible that your company might have access to the Air New Zealand or Qantas route guides ? I would suggest these may give a more accurate WX data on NZWN . That said, it is only as shown here about a dozen times a year . This is the 34 approach. 16 in a howling southerly / precip / ceiling 500 ft /dogleg approach / staged letdown , is .....much more interesting..... :-)
Does Dash 8s are very stable.
Wind-shear... a pilot's worst nightmare.
how their people enjoy over there i mean this city !
spend their time with sleeping !
i heard the Qantas plane had to abort back to Melbourne
None of these landing are crosswind landings. The wind nearly always is straight on to both Nort and South landing aircraft at Wellington - easterlies or westerly winds are extremely rare. The problem here is wind-shear
weird. prevailing winds in welly are northwesterlies. look at the orientation of the airport.
Incorrect.
3:33 smooth
This is should the exam airport for every airline in the world who wanted to test there pilot for crosswind proficiency. Just saying.
I hope you are taking videos t0day! 10.01.13!
3:30 the best
Well, that esclated quickly...
in the description u have written ATR , but that was not an ATR , it was DASH-8
that was an Atr...
Centurion Coles what? at 5:20, that is an Atr... the gear is on the fuselage
Centurion Coles and again at 6:20
Algood, but just saying there was atrs
Wounded??
last guy was a nutter! screw being a passenger of that.
That caravan is so unstable
3:39 TERRIBLE
Aborted landing would go to Christchurch or Auckland if it didn't make anither try.
Now I know way aborted landing over Newlands landed safe I ChCh at 1.45 am 3 Jan 2013
