    Formula E is very fun to watch, because it's just a f*ckfest almost every time. The tight and twisty tracks makes it interesting too. The series is suprisingly well put together in my opinion.

      Might give it a try, but with energy consumption simulation. Will really cut TS on Le Mans.
      Le Mans is much trickier for this car than the Nordschleife, as the nature is much straigther with less braking zones.

    • @sherman128
      @sherman128 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I like DRS. I always found the "artificial" argument silly. It's a part of the car, like engine modes or ERS. Fan boost is about as artificial as it gets.

    • @Logan912
      @Logan912 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sherman128 DRS is just as artificial as Fan Boost. The difference is that DRS is up to the driver's discretion (at pre-determined, arbitrary sections of circuits while within an arbitrary distance to an opponent) while Fan Boost is up to the spectators' discretion. Fan Boost is just as "part of the car" as DRS is. At least the new Attack Mode in Formula E has a risk/reward factor.

    I actually quite enjoy FE. Although it may be as fast as F4 and not sound great, it always produces great racing, the cars are a handful to say the least, the tracks are challenging and there are quite a few recognisable ex F1 drivers. It may not be for everyone but for me it’s a good parallel with F1.
    Enjoyable vid as always Jimmy :)

      The tracks and cars are definitely challenging. Di Grassi, our reigning champ, said Formula E cars are the most difficult cars to control of anything he's ever driven. And that creates the mad, mad spectacle that is a typical Formula E race 🙌

  • @GNeves302
    @GNeves302 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All the car traits you mentioned just convinced me even more that, in an ideal world, at current stage of development, the top eletric car championship wouldn't be with open-wheelers. Of course, they went with Formula route because it's the most recognizable format and, therefore, more attractive to the general public, which made it the optimal choice in a commercial sense.
    Just imagine how much better suited for close racing the car would be.

  • @wadud92
    @wadud92 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I will never be able to take Formula E seriously as long as it has fan boost. It is the most synthetic thing ever. At least Formula 1's "synthetic racing" in its DRS is available to everyone who can get within 1 second at certain parts of the track and wasn't as powerful this year as in previous years

  • @bduddy55555
    @bduddy55555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +80

    I watch racing because it's exciting. FE races deliver more excitement per lap than just about anyone else. Plus there's the potential of some development that will actually affect road technology in a positive way, which isn't going to happen in F1 any time soon.

    • @jorhop4005
      @jorhop4005 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      bduddy55555 Until they come up with a better solution than switching cars mid race, I don't think this series is doing much for the electric car industry other than using technology we already had, and when they do open up the development, one manufacturer is likely going to be bettee than the rest leading to boring races. Also, F1 isn't supposed to road relevant, it's supposed to be the pinnacle of automotive technology. I'm not saying it is tho, I think the peak of the LMP1 Hybrid era was.

I like bumber cars too, but on a race track I like to see racing, not congested narrow tracks, with amateur driving, and cars that sound worse than vacuum cleaners. I find IMSA, WEC, WRC and the numerous Australian racing series plenty exciting.

      Imagine how much other race cars are going to develop in 20 years. We probably won't get much more power than the current f1 cars. Formula e will become mainstream if the cars get fast and the tracks get good. More likely to just get more electric power into f1 than FE becoming popular

    I’m indifferent on Formula E. I do think it’s a fun Motorsport, but what confuses me is that Tesla is producing cars capable of going 600 miles and 250 mph, but Formula E can’t come near either one of those. But I’m probably just unfamiliar with the rules and regulations. However, I think the noise of the cars is great. It’s almost satisfying to hear in my opinion.

    • @auroraspace2392

    • @FIAFormulaE
      @FIAFormulaE 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Happy to get nerdy on the rules and regs - just let us know!🤓 Regarding range, in broad terms a Formula E car is running at racing speed almost all the time, which is the main differentiator. A Tesla in the hands of a racing driver on a closed track isn't going 600 miles on a charge, much like an ICE car's fuel economy on a track day isn't going to be as advertised in the owner's manual...

    F1 is still H.N.I.C. in this case, but these days you'll need an all-electric drivetrain to take on Pike's Peak records. I think the crazy factor of electric drivetrains has been well explored though the last 10 years of that event, while Formula E is like a testing ground for future consumer electric car technology. Those teams are pushing system efficiency to new levels, some reaching over 90%! Most parts of the cars are identical, but teams can engineer their own motor and transmissions if they want, so innovation in that area is full (fly-by-wire) throttle.

  • @spngrm
    @spngrm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Formula E does sound better and louder in person. You hear the sound of the chassis breaking the air around it and the tyres on the road a lot more, which mixing with the noise of the motor gives the sound a sort of fighter jet-esque feel. And yeah, I agree the sound of the motor alone won't give anyone the goosebumps but I remember a whole pack of cars braking into turn 1 still being pretty noisy.

    Love it or hate it Formula E is a reflection of the inexorable shift towards the electrification of vehicles. I think with the rise of countries putting deadlines on car companies to stop producing internal combustion engines the R&D budgets for such engines and therefore the interest in them will begin to wane. Formula E can only get faster as technology advances and it isn't unrealistic to think that, by the time the bans come in fully, that F E cars could reach similar top speeds to modern F1 cars. F1 can only exist as long as sponsors are happy to pour money into it and the fashion for electric cars will eventually draw them away. The other thing to consider of course is that any discipline that uses modified road cars will have to make plans to accommodate electric vehicles. Formula E is just the beginning of a massive transition for Motorsport in general.

    Cars are indeed pretty interesting, not a fan of street tracks (even monaco, but it's a legendary one, so I'm okay with it), fanboost is absolutely retarded, would like them to eventually battle it out on the F1 circuits once the cars have developed enough to handle longer distances, and enough power to be able to run more downforce and see what happens.

      Yeah , sure. Racing is waaay more exciting if your definition of exciting is a bunch of idiots crashing into each other. It's like racing formula cars in touring car races. The definition of formula racing is contact free ,clean , surgically smooth racing. Formula E is the BTCC with electric single seaters on terrible race tracks. But i guess the new generation falls for it, because "there's no overtakes in Formula 1". As long as "overtaking" means putting the other guy into the barrier or plunging into his side , i'm good with my overtake-less F1 , thank you.

    • @kylejackson1502
      @kylejackson1502 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      President Kimi formula 2 is more exciting than formula 1! F1 has become push to pass basically with drs. At least those other series allow cars to get close enough to do an exciting overtake. And yes they might wreck more but that’s also because the racing is closer and accidents happen they’re also a part of racing

    I think Formula E (electric racing in general) is simply inevitable. However, I think they're restricting manufacturers too much right now. They don't have the room to really innovate and make Formula E more exciting and advance the technology of the cars.

    I get both sides of race, and road electric cars. Con, Truth is the batteries are not eco friendly at all, and an electric road car is an expensive pain in the ass. Work days are ok, but most of us get to be spontaneous a few days a month, and as of now electric cars require an itinerary if you don't want to get stuck. Pro, I don't see the internal combustion engine improving much, so hopefully Formula E tech will improve, then trickle down to us mortals with a cheaper price tag. Maybe Formula E will improve the design of road cars. Any racing not around an oval is another pro in my book. Question, what's up with the radials on dry Tarmac?

      Many cities already plan to ban diesel engines in their centers. By 2040 I find it totally conceivable that they also ban petrol engines. And if I can't go anywhere with my petrol engine car, a conversion to electric (or an electric car) would be a great idea :)

    • @soundslave
      @soundslave 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe. they make exceptions for classic cars though, many classic cars on the roads today are technically illegal but are allowed because of their classic status. And by 2040 a Celica would be classed as classic.

    Formula E may be slower, and the tracks way too tight for much action, and the sound's is definitely non existent, but I like the lack of aero. Car is edgy, you can drift and powerslide and oversteer it into corners, there's wheel to wheel racing and what not. F1 is king of speed thanks to aero, but those guys don't bring DRS after Lap 1, they wait for Lap 3, and by then it's just a procession.
