Great video, you captured what RSD is really all about, sharing new music with new people, records are almost secondary, I dig Parliament I thought hard about getting that one, nice haul, sounds like you had a great day, thank you for sharing, Peace!
Hi Mike I totally agree with you when it comes to record store day why not celebrate!🎉. I’m like you I don’t que but I arrived at lunch time a surprisingly them had everything I wanted … people started queuing at 5/30 pm on Friday and when the doors open 300 people were waiting … such a fun day … how did you came in under budget 👏👏👏👏👍
Hi Mike, I did not make it out yesterday. I have curtailed my spending on records as I have a bunch that i have yet to sit down and listen to. So I dont need to add too much at the current time. I was looking at The Hives because OGs are in the triple digits and its not a record I would pay that much for. Glad you had a good time.
Hey Kevin! I get it! My intake has really dropped the past year and its the best thing I’ve done. Im buying better records and actually excited about listening to them.
Mike, great RSD video. I am one of the lunatics in line at 3am. After the Friday night party is over, you just go crash in line. I did have one I wanted that my store only got one copy. Witchfinder General, which I did score. Probably not your cup of tea. I am going to guess one you missed, maybe you would dig Duncan Shiek self-titled debut? Have a good day. Peace ☮️ the Zonkman
I have never been to a RSD on the day (Saturday) because I work on weekends. I can not afford to skip work at time and a half for weekends. I do drop into my two local shops on Monday and Tuesday and find two or three albums I want. Grabbed the Cranberries, the Ramones demos, the Meat Puppets Live and the Rolling Stones Lp. I’m ha😅
Some fine albums there. And thanks for declaring how much you paid for each of them. I'd love that Wall of Voodoo release, but at that price? 🥵 I don't wait in line either; I go along a few days after RSD and see what's what. At this point in my collecting nothing is genuinely 'essential', just 'like to haves'. Works for me.
That was a big markup on the Wall of Voodoo. There are several VC channels focused on jazz and hosted by guys in their early 20s, and they get a ton of views. They're good channels too because they really know their stuff, and yeah, they're all (or nearly all) focused on the bop and hard bop eras. I need to return my Cracker Island record because it has two of the same record in it, two copies of disc one, no disc two.
First thanks for subbing me Mike. Ive been an RSD fan for many years. I've come to like it because of the live releases that are dug up from the past. I bought that Lowell George album on a Mofi edition way back because of Little Feat too. Its a good listen. I passed on the GD box because of last years 8 record set in D.C. it was expensive 😊. If you're a fan of Little Feat you may like Widespread Panic. Sometimes they remind me of LF because of the percussion section. Thanks again. Greg
Anybody, pick up Gandalf? I never knew who they were. Thats what's so cool about RSD. Love discovering old, new music. Also, The Thin Lizzy live at Hammersmith is amazing. Sounded like they were playing in my living room. As far as the prices, it is what it is, it's part of the experience. It's like going to a concert. You know you're going to spend $15 for a beer, and I'm okay with that. As long as it's a craft beer LOL.
Just like you I wont stand in line and just came after the shop went open and there was a really big line...so I passed at this shop and went to another, no line but they dont had the two records I want. So then I go to a third one and there I was succesfully with one ( Sisters of Mercy)..and then I went to the fourth shop and luckily they had still the one one I was looking for..Osmium by Parliament.👍 And that one I found expensive, 60's euro and no gatefold and no analog cut. But ok, its a really great album and the bonustracks, especially The Breakdown and Come In out of the Rain with Steve Mancha aka Clyde Wilson ( from 100 Proof Aged In Soul, another Hot Wax/Invictus act) on leadvocals.
Hi Mike!!! So glad to hear to had a blast at the RSD.... So cool to see you got all the stuff you wanted and paid in cash, but what $42.99 for and Ep!!! You're rich, lol..... surprise to see you getting that Hives album. cheers and be well
Thanks for sharing your list. The local shops here in Canada seem to have got shorted this year, neither shop I go to got any of the jazz releases. Only thing I picked up was the Television Live At The Academy. Red/White vinyl is nice and sounds good after one listen. Wish they'd put more into the packaging, no write up or photos. Maybe this week some other releases will show up. Cheers.
I understand why people complain about RSD prices. Many single records are $40. Thankfully the stuff I generally go for is in the $20 range. I haven’t done RSD the last couple of years. The last time I stood in line I got to the store when it opened. They had a check list. The line was around the block. I checked 10 records thinking I would only get half. I got all ten. That is when I realized I didn’t need to stand in line. Most are not interested in what I want. I agree that Jackpot records are hitting it out of the park. My #1 want is the live Wall Of Voodoo.
Very nice! Always makes you nervous when you have to go to multiple stores to try and get everything you want but glad you ended up with everything. Sounds like you had the day RSD is supposed to be!
I’ll be 56 on Saturday but I’m still at the point where I go out in the middle of the night. But the recovery time is getting longer. 😂 Great list this year. I got 7. Vince Guaraldi, Airplane! score, 10,000 Maniacs, The Who comp, Duncan Shiek, Even More Dazed & Confused and the English Beat. Missed out on Jeff Buckley but my store didn’t get any so that’s fine. Great vid. Peace.
I got everything I wanted and I'm getting up early to order one from the leftovers of today but my most wanted one right from the day the rsd list came out was Joe Pesci and succeeded in get it, plus Parliament, plus Buena Vista Social Club, and Penrose Showcase vol. 2
Love that Wall Of Voodoo EP & Ring Of Fire cover but that price ! 😠 😡. Picked up Lost In Translation soundtrack , Siouxsie live & The Flesheaters. Wanted Kristen Hersch but it was limited to 600 & my little New Mexico wasn't allocated one.
Nice pickups! I got 5 things: Joe Strummer, Trashcan Sintatras, Acetone, Neil Young, Filter. Joe Strummer was my #1. I couldn’t find my #2 which is the Paper Kites. Great day!
Hey Albert! Awesome! The Strummer is fantastic! OGs are expensive. Glad its getting a reissue. I have the 3 lp box so im good. I almost got Acetone. 🎶☮️🎶
Very nice haul there Mike. Would I at 52 stand in line? Hmmm… Well, here in northern Denmark I have to go to Aalborg, 110 kms from here and the first train on a Saturday arrives 12 minutes before the only participating record store in the region opens! Still, walked away with a great haul, there were some things they didn’t have, some I found online after. Also, the price of that Doors live album… I think I would have put it back. Good to see some Scandinavian music made it into your collection. I hadn’t listened to the Hives in years and then Steve Carlson reminded me I should, ha ha. Kind of wish I’d gotten the one you got now… no! Morten, enough! 😄 Nice video, enjoy and cheers from Denmark.
Mike - I knew I'd see Lowell on your list! That was my number 1 to pick up. The lines in NYC were the longest I've ever seen. It took 6 hours to get to my records. You recommended Chico to me last time, here's my recommendation: there's a great cult jazz album that flew under the radar, it's by a band that only had one album in the 70's and it hasn't ever been repressed . It's Band X - Greatest Hits. If you like Herbie Hancock's Headhunters this is in the same vein. Someone on line turned me onto them and I picked it up and love it. It's worth going back to the record store for.
Meat Puppets was a surprise for me as I never saw it on the list and no VC TH-camr talked about it. It’s live, in 88’ so early stuff, the vocals are kinda weak but instrumental is clear. Seems like an open air theatre so vocals sound faint. Great addition to my MP catalogue, I own majority of their albums on cd, bought them in 90’s. The packaging and art work is great 👍. Poor sleeves though once again. The Cranberries and Ramones are my favourites
It was a great RSD & my haul so far was in 2 parts...#1 was 7 titles plus the Dwight Yoakam CD box online (yes I buy mostly CDs)...Parliament, Ramones, Golden Earring, Dead or Alive, Sparks/Noel, Elton John & the Bowie (but bummed it was black vinyl, not coloured or splatter, but I'll live) & part 2 Wednesday I got 6 more...Paramore (with the remixes), this cool cheap funk comp The Westbound Sound, Cheech & Chong, Lowell George (again black vinyl boo!!),:Sonic Youth & Neil Young/Crazy Horse...will hit other stores on Saturday, as im still looking for others, Tinted Windows, Def Leppard, Keane, maybe the Stones live, maybe that Wall of Voodoo, we'll see...
I had a great day for RSD!! I actually worked at my favorite store as a gatekeeper. I got to shop after my shift. I missed a few things, but they are re-ordering what I missed. Still happy with my haul and got a great deal for helping out. Thanks!! You missed Lettuce, Snarky Puppy, Ghost-Note & Live Fleet Foxes (if you happen to like them)!! Also, Jim Croce's final concert recording. And Queen Latifah's best record, which I don't think was ever on vinyl!! Like you, I got Parliament even though I wasn't planning on getting it originally.
I went to get the parliament record and they wanted $60 for it. I was shocked and passed on it. Serious question, is that the new norm and I’m just out of touch? I was liking 34.99 39.99 tops.
I disagree with your opinion on the RSD record prices They go upwards every year!! A Manu Dibango record might be 22 dollars but a Lennon EP with 4 songs is almost 40 dollars Most well known acts are constantly rising in price Your examples were artists not in high demand
True. I don’t buy the trendy stuff. There’s always exceptions though. $42 for Lennon when those songs are being released later this year is ridiculous. People need to be smart with their purchases.
Great video, you captured what RSD is really all about, sharing new music with new people, records are almost secondary, I dig Parliament I thought hard about getting that one, nice haul, sounds like you had a great day, thank you for sharing, Peace!
Another VC Mike!! It was a fun day. Isn’t that what its about? People need to relax ☮️

I picked up Gandalf and I love it! I was fortunate to find one at my record store on record store day! 🎉
They remind me of The Beach Boys.
nice haul I did OK today, picked up 18 RSD and a boot of the Grateful Dead with Linda Rondstadt & Boz Scaggs from a 1970 TV show
18???????
