    My record store didn't have either so I picked up "Everyone Loves Bill Evans." Definitely going to find a copy of "Poppin' in Paris"!

    I need to track down a copy of the Shelly Manne. Yesterday I picked up the Adderley 1972, and the Waldron/Lacy: The Mighty Warriors. Both great! The sound on the Waldron concert is phenomenal. Really good drum sound on the Adderley too! Ordered the Sonny Rollins '59 set and the Yusef Lateef concert with Kenny Barron.

    Cheers Mazzy. Shelly Manne And His Men Live At The Blackhawk Vol 1-4 is among the best live jazz records out there. I'll keep my eyes peeled for this RSD release.

    George Duke rules! I've heard he really shines on Poppin in Paris. In the early 70s he exploded with Zappa and solo albums on MPS.

      Not just Duke, but the drummer Roy McCurdy is great too. And the drum sound on this recording is really good.

    Thanks. Couldn’t find either Adderly LPs at record stores so ordered BOTH today on line from In Groove. Can’t wait to listen to them.

    Your the best Mazzy!! Friggin great Jazz/Soul reviews! Honestly you are hopelessly in love with “Smokin” “Cool” “Funky” “Burnin” “Boppin” “Killer” “Smokin” Jazz recordings and it shows! I totally trust your reviews!

    "Somethin' Else" is on my top ten list, regardless of genre. When I get a new piece of audio gear, particularly speakers, "Autumn Leaves" is the first track I play and is my ultimate reference for judging the gear. Hank Jones's outro is phenomenal, and when Miles comes back in to close it out, it's just perfection. The greatest single jazz recording of all time.

      I have “Somthin’ Else” on Vinyl and it’s a beautiful album. “Autumn Leaves “ is the highlight on the album for me. It’s awesome.

    The poor humble CD really suffers on RSD. All these releases deserve a CD version (in cardboard cases and not those horrible plastic things)!

      @mazzysmusic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Actually many of these are coming out on CD next month

      Thanks Mazzy, that's good to know. I am a believer that a decently mastered CD can sound very warm and relatively close to analogue. I did know the Sonny Rollins 'Freedom Weaver' set is coming out on CD and looking forward to that one. Also very keen on both Cannonball Adderley releases. Great review by the way!

    I am interested in learning about the early basics of jazz. archival..
    Does that mean scratchy? I haven't heard this cannonball Adderly as of yet and totally looking forward to this.

    I’ve heard from other reviewers of these live recordings that the sound quality isn’t great but the music is good! More for historical reasons Don’t buy expecting audio quality sound

    Doesn't Record Store Day ever promote books too? I'm pushing a 2010 book atm about guitarist Ronnie Wood by Terry Rawlings called *KNOCK ON WOOD* . Fabulous. Only just found it. It's probably already available in *the Norman Maslov Public Library* . Rich in quotes & anecdotes. My fave is not a joke but a film fact, though I'm still not sure why it's in Ronnie Wood's book:-
    *THE MADNESS OF KING GEORGE III* was the original, historically accurate title of that British film. British execs changed it to THE MADNESS OF KING GEORGE, worried that American audiences would wonder why they hadn't seen Parts I & II.

    Jazzy, will you be doing a video tribute to Dickey Betts?

    Sign me up for all of them. Are these "set an alarm and wake up early" titles or if I stroll into Easy Street without getting in line will I find any left?

    • @mazzysmusic
      @mazzysmusic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would guess you could find most if the Jazz titles later. Except for the Craft Evans in my first Jazz video. But you never know. 🤷🏻‍♂️😎
