    I went on a cold April morning to explore and do some trout fishing on a mountain river I hadn't fished before but my day ended up much different than I thought it would. After getting skunked on that river I headed down to the mountain lake that it runs into. My idea was to do some mountain lake trout fishing and have a catch and cook but that wasn't gonna happen either. I fished my way along the deep side of the mountain lake where there is no trail to a small cove where magic happened. I trout fished for a while longer off a big drop off but only got a few bites.

    Awesome fish! I think I’d fish for trout more knowing monsters like that are around. As far as the river, I wonder if your fish head up there to spawn? You’re right, no sense being in there otherwise. Great video! 🎣📸

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spawning was my guess too. Otherwise head to the lake and live fat n happy! I knew there were big Dollys in there but that was kinda a surprise. Especially for a mountain lake

    • @megaconda07
      @megaconda07 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I know bull trout are heavily migratory. They live in large rivers and lakes for the winter half of the year. And when it warms up they go I to headwaters streams to spawn. I think. Still doing research. It's a fish I'd like to meet

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm in agreement with you. Where I usually catch em, they're trapped by dams on either side. There is a lake with large inlets that the fish definitely migrate to tho

    Getting new gear. What size rod should I get? 5’6 , 6, or 6’6? Or get two different size rods?

    • @CascadeBackcountry
      @CascadeBackcountry  ปีที่แล้ว

      For backpacking I would recommend a 5'6" ultralight medium-fast action rod. For day to day trout fishing I'd prob go with around a 6'6" rod. If you're not slaying monsters 24/7, the lighter rod you go with, the funner it'll be to land them trout!
