    Hey everyone! I'm still working on the Top 100 (need more time to research), so I thought you'd like this in the meantime. For more on the areas, download the free Amino App and search my profile name, theDeModcracy, to check out my Stories: aminoapps.onelink.me/4eRt/theDeModcracy
    I'll be on vacation for the next 10 days, but I'll be making a community post soon detailing upcoming videos/plans (Boss Breakdown for Artorias, Top 100, Merch info, and more). Cheers and I hope you all are having a wonderful summer!

    I'm surprised to not see Undead Burg in there. It's an incredible introduction level with all the strengths of Dark Souls. It's an interconnected maze centered around one bonfire filled with shortcuts and it encourages exploration like nothing else. When you get discouraged, you can just try something new. The aesthetic is generic, but the level design is fantastic.

      The intro to Fishing Hamlet is the best of any Souls game hands down in my opinion. You beat Maria, and think it was such an epic fight that the DLC has to be over. You see the light bursting through the clocktower, and you’re sure as soon as you interact with it the ending cutscene will start. No interact button, so you decide to step through the light. Wherever you are going its going to be bright. Then you step through and instantly transition into the most dismal, dark, murky, damp, and sad area you’ve ever seen. I’ll never forget that feeling, and how happy I was that there was another huge area in the dlc.

    It does feel like the Ringed City belongs on this list, but then again, the same argument can be made for at least a dozen other areas depending on your preference. The dlc has always been the highlight for me, but that's mainly because of the bosses and how gorgeous they are. Factoring in stuff like lore, interconnectivity, and overall enjoyment of the level, Oolacile and the Hunter's Nightmare are the only dlc areas I'd have on my list. Anyway, keep up the great work dmod and really looking forward to that Artorias video.

    I've never heard anyone say it, and I'm probably a little biased because it was my first game, but the Undead Settlement in Dark Souls 3 is absolutely fantastic early game design. It's really the part of the game that teaches you how to explore areas, by having lots of different ways you can get around the area, and letting you see many other sections of the area, and you can see where you need to go to access another part, without it actually showing what you have to do specifically. It gives you just the right amount of hints and pointers to figure it all out on your own, and the only real downside is that the Curse Rotted Greatwood isn't a very memorable boss fight.

Dragon Shrine is garbage because of the uninteresting enemy spam and a horrid, albeit optional boss at the end of it. Recently I realized how awesome the Lothric castle/grand archives areas are. So many drops, levers, hidden areas, just a lot of nooks and crannies. Not my favorite game by From, but I think it deserves more love for the level designs individually rather than all of them as a whole.

    Personally, I have a great love for the first painted world. Maybe it's partially because I'm a fan of fluffy tail, but I love how the level wraps around to create the perfect straight path shortcut once you've opened the gates and how much interesting lore is hidden within (especially pertaining to Velka). Not to mention how the whole thing can easily be missed and helps reinforce that you're somewhere that wasn't meant to be traveled to.
    Also happy to see Sen's Fortress get the recognition it deserves. I heard so many horror stories about it before playing my first time - but as a slow and cautious player I was able to spot nearly every trap before it had a chance to murder me. The entire area is harsh, but fair, something which I find to exemplify the souls series as a whole.

    Anor Londo at #1 really surprises me. I felt it was fairly underwhelming and bland, honestly. Not bad, but not exceptional. In fact, if it weren't for O&S, I think it'd be pretty forgettable. There are some cool events and interactions (traveling to the Painted World, Gwynevere/Gwyndolin, the transition from day to night), but the area itself is meh.

    • @Dastsabre
      @Dastsabre 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean the Anor Londo archers, the secret basement with havels, fighting the painting guardians on the rafters, the sheer enemy variety, the rotating tower, the giant blacksmith, the dramatic introduction, the overall aesthetic, the lautrec event, ornstein and smough, gwynevere and the lordvessel
      Your argument doesn’t really make sense to be honest, what area compares to that?

  • @TheeOptionalGuy
    @TheeOptionalGuy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    Cool list, I definitely disagree with Anor Londo though. At least, looking back on it now, while the area provides a lot of spectacle and starts out pretty good and ends great, I feel like the bridge between the beginning and the castle becomes far too empty once the gargoyles are dealt with (which could be what they were going for since Anor Londo is abandoned after all but doesn't feel great level design wise) and the castle itself is a bit uninteresting just because it's mostly silver knights over and over and while it makes sense for them to be there, I do think the area could have been improved a bit if there were more Silver Knight variants instead of just the two.
    Great video, enjoyed watching it.

    • @Dastsabre
      @Dastsabre 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I mean idk I feel the opposite. You’ve got a secret boss, two covenants, a new blacksmith, hidden areas with great treasure, incredible aesthetics, a secret path to a new area, painting guardians, giant sentinels, winged demons, gargoyles, silver knights and one of the best bosses in the series. I don’t really understand the anor londo is lacking in content argument

      The Ringed City is my favorite DLC bosses-wise (except for the fucking npc boss that I forgot the name of and don’t care enough to look it up), but areas-wise it’s only barely good when it comes to areas. Drew Heap is extremely mediocre, and The Ringed City is very good but disappointing. You only get to explore about 1/5 of the area you see. That is why The Ringed City is only my second favorite are of Dark Souls 3.

    Personally out of all the areas I’ve been to in the Souls Games, the “Hunters Dream” is my top favourite alongside the “Kiln of the First Flame” from DS3.
    They both have a strong feeling of grandeur in my opinion because the areas both spell out “this is the end” in a majestic way. Everything you fought up to ends off in a significant area with a strong boss with a very interesting backstory behind them both, especially Gerhman.

      @scottbecker4367 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dastsabre gotta heavily disagree on your second point. The eclipse in the background as the light of the world flows up into the darkness. All the while this knight, who's supposed to represent the player, battles you to keep you away from the first flame. Compare that to Gwynn's arena, which is a ring of pillars around the first flame, and it's mostly dark. The spectacle isn't comparable, the lore implications are equal at least, with ds3 having advantage, and the fight against the soul of cinder literally turns into Gwynn's fight halfway through, meaning you get more bang for your buck. Ds3 wins easily.

      I played Ds1 last. Ds2-Ds3-DeS-Bb-Ds1. And I heard so much about how awful Blighttown was. But personally, that was the area where I felt what the game was going for the most. You can see all this Grandeur from when the world was first formed. You've got the great hollow and Ash lake to drive that home. Plus, you've got the demon ruins and Izalith to REALLY drive that "I'm walking where the first people walked" feeling. Then you've got Quelana down there, which really makes you feel that point of "this is where it all started". You've got the adrenaline of getting down there alive; and worse, getting back UP from the bonfire. But probably the most intense emotion I had in the whole series (mind you, I played this game last), was when you meet the fair lady. You hear her story, see how fiercely she is protected, and that music... It is heartbreaking. Totally breaks your feels.... Combined with the adrenaline of surviving, and that feeling of being where it all started... A once great area, that is reduced to absolute corruption. I totally agree with Blighttown being #1. I've never felt like I did in Blighttown, in any area of From games. In fact, I still haven't finished the game after I destroyed O and S on the 2nd try, with a character with complete hybrid and no strengths. The rest of the game, minus the Dlc and getting to Gwyn, just seems kinda meh
